Beautiful, comfortable, convenient, well thought out home away from home. No wonder it got so many 5 star reviews. We stay in Bright as a base to go to Falls Creek. It has everything to make it a pleasant, memorable stay: comfy bed, bathroom with spa, electric blanket, fire place with plenty of wood, 5 minutes to town centre, river walk to town… Alistair was very responsive and accommodating. We love it so much we have booked for next year! See you Merrimeet in 2024!

Beautiful, comfortable, convenient home away from home!

The location of the Meerimeet cottages are the really selling point.  They are in a quiet street and back onto a path beside the river that is only a short walk into town.  Middle Cottage was comfortable though it had the shower over a large spa bath that might prove difficult for some. The cottage had a slow combustion heater and plenty of firewood plus a reverse cycle air-conditioner.  There’s a bar fridge but no freezer. 

Relaxed Stay

So enjoyed our stay in Merrimeet cottages for 2 nights, in mid December 2022. Absolutely cosy well appointed accommodation thank you Alistair and Kellie. 
We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, well equipped kitchen, use of  the washing machine was such a bonus. Weather was so beautiful we were  able to get our washing dry on the clothesline with plenty of pegs. It’s the small things that make me happy!
We were only a 10 minute  walk from town along the river, gorgeous. Would definitely stay here again, if we’re in this part of the world.

Picturesque haven in beautiful Bright

We had such a great relaxed brief trip to Bright from NE Vic.  Highly recommend Merrimeet Cottages for couples looking for a relaxed stay away from the hustle, and closer to nature, the seasons and the river.  Loved the attire, the simplicity and the warmth - oh and the spa too!

A treasure to be found in Bright!

We stayed in the Lychgate Apartment for three nights recently.
The facilities in the room were great and the surrounding gardens were delightful.
The property backs on to the Canyon walk beside the Ovens River.
It is a pleasant 10 minute walk into town or just a peaceful place to walk along at the end of the day.
Alistair was a welcoming and helpful host. Thank you very much and we are looking forward to visiting Bright and Meerimeet again in autumn next time.

Lovely Getaway

My partner and I stayed for two nights, the cottage was beautifully situated near Bright (10 minutes walk along the riverbank). Everything we needed was provided, the cottage was clean and welcoming. The deck overlooking the garden and river was private and had a BBQ which we used. Our hosts Alistair and Kellie were lovely. Thank you

Beautiful place to relax

Merrimeet Cottages are in the prettiest setting and well-situated in terms of being a short walk into town, particularly if it is light enough to use the Canyon Walk track. We also found Alistair to be a charming, helpful and communicative host. We rented the Riverdeck Cottage and it is as pretty as it looks in the picture. However, while we had expected this to be the best of our Victorian accommodation we were a little disappointed with the reality. 

A number of things did not work or did not work well during our stay, including the wifi, which Alistair explained was poor for the Riverdeck Cottage. The thing that we would really warn future guests about is how cold the cottage was - even in April. The slate floors, which look so lovely, were not warmed by the combustion stove and/or the air-conditioning; we could only imagine how cold it would be in the actual winter months. I would also not agree that the cottage has ‘well-equipped galley kitchen’. Although the space size is reasonable a more accurate description, in terms of the equipment and appliances provided, is that it is a ‘kitchenette’ as it only has 2 burners and a microwave to cook with.  A picture of this should be included on the website so that guests know exactly what to expect. According to other reviews, we may have not selected the best accommodation option  Merrimeet has to offer.

Riverdeck Cottage a bit disappointing

Loved our stay in Stonewall Cottage.
Comfortable home close to the river and a short walk to town.
The gardens are lovely, a peaceful location.
Everything we needed was there in the house.

Lovely spot, comfortable cottages.

Our 2 bedroom apartment was very good, roomy with a wood fire and bbq. The accommodation is on the Ovens River and a short walk into town. The gardens are stunning, being there in Spring there was much in flower. The owner was very friendly and explained everything that we needed to know.

Great short break

Lovely well appointed, clean and cosy cottages close to the river and the centre of Bright.
We wanted some wood burning stove cosiness and fresh country air away from the city after months of Coronovirus isolation and this place did not disappoint. 
We only stayed for two nights but it felt like much longer so I am certain this place has restorative properties. We left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
We will definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
