I said for a week in a female dorm room. The guests were extra friendly. The staff, Max and two cleaners. One, Ian? the man, was so thorough and cleaned every morning. They other, a lady in white chiffon, wafted around and looked lovely. I slept very well. the pool wasn't functioning but that was because the pool man was booked up solid, and would come asap. Nobody used it. Health and safety. I will stay there next time in Darwin.

The only thing I am happy with is the bathroom is clean and it stops there.
SAFETY IS A CONCERN - WHETHER IT IS ALLOWED UNDER AUSTRALIAN WHS LAW OPERATING  COMMERCIAL ACCOMMODATION WHEN STILL UNDER RENOVATION
On booking.com stated Cozy Hotel and good reviews (despite only 5) as it seems newly refurbished.
When I arrived it turned out to be Down Under Hostel (The old name), the reception not quite welcoming and process from the window like McDonald Drive Thru style.
When all paid, he opened the door for me and to my surprised it looks like the Block building side, all building materials everywhere, I booked 4 bed mixed and it was 1st room straight near the main door and turned out it was 6 beds (3 bunk beds  but 2 other uppers beds were not used) and I got the last 4th bed (the only upper one used out of the 3 bunk beds).
As I am quite a heavy guy, the bed slats was making noise and thin mattress on it really uncomfortable.
The bed is also very light when I tried to grab the stair to climb seems it tilted toward me like almost felt to my side (due to my weight and no one underneath me yet when I arrived).
I get back room after dinner and the next door bar music was so loud continued until very late.
I tried to relax at back yard near kitchen and small tiny spa, but the rubbish piles near the day bed and kitchen seems attracted flies and mosquito in the humid Darwin weather.
The next morning I left early 6 am and stripped the pillow case and a sheet given when checked in and put at the white basket next to exit door.
Around 1.30 pm I got text message asking "Pls come to the reception to extend your stay. or did you check out? If yes why didn't you take your sheets off the bed"
When they refer to sheet mean the single fitted sheet covering the thin mattress, and I was never being told that needed to be stripped (Neither about the pillow and sheet when I checked in, I read the sign in the room and didn't aware that single fitted one needed to be gone too).
However with the tiny bunk bed, early in the morning, thin slides, if I had to strip that the person sleep under me might get all the dust.
Never again I will go back neither recommend this hostel.

CHANGED NAME TO COZY HOSTEL @ BOOKING.COM

This is the worst hostel I've ever stayed at anywhere in Australia or overseas. All of the people I spoke to were staying there long term and there were many older people. This meant that the hostel had a weird vibe with people sleeping all day, and I didn't meet any other travellers. There were no lockers which made me uncomfortable leaving my stuff there.

The hostel was disgusting and smelt bad. The floors were only cleaned once per week and there was stuff all over the floor in my room. The people that lived there had stuff everywhere, and there were dirty clothes that looked like they had been left by previous occupants when they checked out. The toilets weren't cleaned properly either and the showers were very dirty and only had cold water. There were only two showers and toilets for the whole floor which didn't help. When I removed the sheets, my mattress didn't have a cover on it and was stained and dirty.

I didn't use the kitchen because it was outside and not cleaned (the inside kitchen was closed). The hostel is advertised as having a jacuzzi but it was half empty and green. There was no designated smoking area so people were smoking in the common area and it was impossible to get away from them. 

There was also a bar next door that played loud music directly outside the window until midnight. Even after that stopped, people were being loud drinking outside, and even eating and drinking in the dorm. The hostel is located quite far away from the city center, so I wasn't expecting noise to be such a problem.

I spent two nights at this hostel and couldn't have stayed any longer. Overall a very unpleasant experience.

This hostel is the worse I have been staying in my whole life : I booked a double room wich wasn't an actual double room : very tiny bunk double bed with a ladder at your face , very tiny and dirty room : you just have room for the bed , no table , no cabinet , no nothing except for the die insects on the floor wich hadnt been cleaned before we came for sure. Moreover the walls was mouldy, lot of cobwebs on the ceiling, the fans havent been dusted since the last decade for sure.
The only good point was the mattres that didn't seem too bad untill we took off the sheets and saw that it was completely mould as well with awkward yellow Stains all over it... that was so disgusting I felt like vomiting. (I took pictures...) I saw that after I slept on it otherwise I would have left straight away... they say on the website and at the front that the beds are new but that's not true. They also say there is a free breakfast every morning at nine but we have been told in the morning that this is not happening anymore... they lie and therefore people doesnt buy any food for breakfast and stay hungry... this hostel is also so noisy I couldnt sleep because of the broken Windows we had in the room and the noisy bar there is next door. But the bar closes at midnight so we thought we would be able to sleep after that but we didnt consider the bogans staying at the hostel, drinking 40 packs of beers the whole night and screaming in the outside... obviously nobody of the staff said anything to them as there is no quiet time requested.
Also there is only one tiny kitchen and two tiny bathroom for the whole hostel and one of those doesn't lock....
Save your time, Money, sleep time, and keep your body away from dirt and don't go there.

Worse hostel ever

I have been at down under for 6 months now and if it's not the friendly persona of everybody that works here it's the free laundry, free breakfast, free bbq and good people. Darwin is good rachel is amazing

Review

- The reception has no 24-hour opening hours, other than stated, I had to wait seven hours for my room. - Personal Work-for-Accommodation = not well trained - dirty - had bed bugs in my own mattress and heard several other stories. Two mattresses lay on a roof that shone on the sun during the day. Someone told me that it was to burn out the bed bugs that were in it. - The showers were cold! Overall, absolutely not recommended.

The worst stay of my life.

I arrived just after the reopening (after work) on 17 March. When I arrived there was a shower and a toilet of disposal, not really organized, poorly managed... but since then, a very clean, pleasant and family-friendly hostel thanks in large part to the staff who are excellent and do their job very well and to the new manager, Camille, who makes things evolve.

First things first I heard bad reviews from other people that stayed there beforehand - I didn’t book it someone else did... still went in with high hopes.. being told that breakfast might not even happen even though it states free hot breakfast! I should of spent 5 nights there. I could not so I only spent 1. The rooms were so stuffy (no ac). Toilet doors didn’t even close properly. No lockers! what hostel does not have lockers!?  All in all a bad bad experience. 

Umm.. had to book another hostel 

Lovely quiet little hostel in a nice part of town. The staff are great and despite being quiet theres a good social area to meet people. I would highly recommend if you're not looking for a party!
Clean amenities and wifi working perfectly! What else?

Down under or high above?

Cheap hostel, with two kitchens, free washing machine and dryer, comfortable bed, air conditioning that works. On the other hand, in terms of hygiene... the kitchens are slightly spared, but the bathrooms!
