Worst bar service I have experienced for a long time. Staff were rude and unhelpful. Would not recommend it or be coming back.

Staff appeared miserable and were in no hurry to serve anyone despite not being busy. Great old building just crap service

Don’t bother

What a nightmare. When we arrived the place was closed up with no reception. Details of how to access the hotel and our room was provided but there was nothing about wifi access, tv coverage, etc. The blind onto the street didn’t close properly so there was bright lighting from the street all night.
But worst of all our car and several others were broken into when in their car park. Reception was totally unhelpful and uncaring. No responsibility was understood but no care was insulting.

Nightmare

We had heard the food was good we went about 12 months ago we went for dinner before going to a show. It was a disappointment very bland and too much sauce.  We went back last weekend booked (as you must it this COVID world).  We sat indoor and had the steaks. In a word WOW they were great the addition of the prawns and scollops hmmmmmmm. We came to the conclusion is that our first visit was just an off night for the team. We all have them so always give a place a second chance. We will be back

Dinner with my wife

We just visited the Palace Hotel over the weekend for dinner.It was a special occassion so we booked in advance for 6.30 on the balcony.It was a beautiful spot with our own gas fire.You had to order your drinks from the bar and this is where our bad experience started.Ordered a cocktail $18 and a Mocktail $16 and told we may have a 10 minute wait as there was only one poor guy at the bar.My friends got their drinks at a 40 minute wait and mine still had not arrived.Went back to the bar and he had forgotten to make them.The cocktail was in a Martini glass and was only half full so he topped it up with milk.What!!!!!!The Mocktail was Cranberry juice and soda water for $16.It was meant to come with fruit in it but NO.1 bottle of water on the table between 6 of us and when it was empty(straight away) we had to go back to the bar and they gave us a pint glass of water for the table.25 minutes to order our meals and they came after an hour(before my cocktail had arrived).Nice enough meals but way more expensive than the same meals we had elsewhere.The mushrooms were nice but the Thai Beef Style Salad was nothing like Thai Beef.Meat was in BBQ sauce and there was NO corriander,No chilli,No mint and no Thai dressing.Queue of 10 people to pay at the end of the night.I understand that there is a staffing issue in Kalgoorlie at the moment but dont book out the restaurant if you dont have the staff as our experience was soured due to the lacking service.No toilet paper in the ladies toilets.I would try this place again but maybe eat downstairs or when its not busy.Total disappointment

50 minute wait for a drink.Totally understaffed

The Palace Hotel has been the heart of Kalgoorlie since it opened in 1897, at the height of the Goldrush. It's a landmark  building, constructed in heritage style. The Palace  is the best-known  hotel of the Eastern Goldfields, centrally located in Hannan St. As with other heritage properties. it's been appropriately maintained, but you are paying for a classic hotel that's a piece of history from the Federation era.

Cool historic building on the main drag of Kal. Exactly as advertised, decent room for the price, high ceilings. Depending on what night you visit, you might get some noise from the road, but what do you expect? The veranda bar was a really great place to sit and have a drink. We ate downstairs in the bar, big portions of good pub grub, just what we needed.

Nice place, does the job

The most impressive thing for us was the way the staff dealt with our initial problems. We had been travelling camp style and had a lot of gear with us like portable fridge etc. we couldn’t have carried it all upstairs so they sorted out a ground floor room for us. The rest of the stay was marvellous in every way. We recommend driving about town to avoid encountering some of the more troubled indigenous folk, most were ok and friendly though.

Central to everything

First thing I will say about this property is don’t waist your time. Very poor standard as your room is accessible by a dingy lane way (per photo). The room had an adjoining door were there were three noisy kids continuously tried to open.
After half an hour I had enough and checked into a far superior property.
Very poor property and would not recommend it.

We booked rooms for 3 couples including the Hoover room which was for a special occasion for one couple.  But when we all arrived the booking for the Hoover room which was made in September was not found. We were then told their computer system crashed a week ago but the other two bookings were in the system.  We were told the Hoover room booking was cancelled twice. ????   Why would we cancel twice then arrive to stay???  Apparently there was already someone staying in that room with a three week booking. We can only conclude a later three week booking was way more attractive to them than honouring an earlier two night booking.  We were then told there was only one room available, a queen balcony room.  No sincere apologies, discount on room or perhaps free breakfast was offered.  Rooms were really basic. No flannel or hand towel supplied. Only tiny piece of soap and one tiny tube of conditioning shampoo was supplied as toiletries. We stayed for two nights and our rooms were not serviced in that time.  All three couples will not stay there again.  Extremely disappointed with the attitude of the receptionist at check in!

Old hotel with minimal service

We arrived on the 25 sept. Given a room key and a front door key for if we came back late . Walking to our room noticed the disgusting upkeep as the photos show . Room was told had been refurbished( crazy)  then we found out the hotel was closed for Sunday and monday even the reception .there was no mention of this when booking in  That's why they must have given us a front door key ..so no clean towels no sheet change no breakfast nothing . I will be sending photos to the tourist commision who are pushing us to holiday In Australia. Was charged $175 a night .
Completely ruined are short break wasted time and money . And will recomend others to give this place a miss.
