We spent 3 nights here in August and enjoyed our stay in a Queen deluxe room in the courtyard.  While the room is an older style it was very clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed. 
The location is very central with easy access to the Main Street and right on the Heritage Trail Walk which we enjoyed. 
Excellent value for money and we hope to return to Wallaroo and stay  again soon.

Value for money.

Sonbern lodge is centrally located with shops and restaurants virtually at your door. The lodge provides a variety of accommodation. The main building is around 100 years of age and whilst having some modern touches does show its age. There are a number of rooms off the courtyard and whilst not being large are comfortable and well equipped. There are also 2 cottages. Prices are quite reasonable.

The Sonbern is quite an old fashioned establishment but it functions perfectly to ensure a most pleasurable stay.
Both the dated exterior and interior combine to provide a cosy motel experience.
The hotel is family run and guests needs carefully attended too.
Extremely clean rooms with good pressure hot and cold water.
There's a refrigerator and microwave over as well as tea/coffee making facilities.
It's placed within walking distance to good eateries and shopping areas.
It has a small, neat terrace garden area with gas barbie facility.
On site parking for guests.

Perfect stopover when exploring this interesting area of Australia.

Wallaroo accommodation can be spendy . but this place was the cheapest at time.. easy check in.and friendly.. bit old but clean.  Rooms same old but clean.. good TV, and reverse cycle air conditioning. Bed bit old but I slept well.. I had Room next to the road. Lucky it was very quite in town.. better to book a room off the road..

and just big enough.. good for a budget hotel

Clean and neat

The Sonbern is located close to the main drag, pubs, cafes and a small shopping centre. The beach and jetty are within walking distance. The room was very reasonably priced. It had excellent amenities such as a microwave, toaster, free WiFi, effective air-conditioning  and heating, cutlery. A lovely touch was the personal products of shampoo, conditioner and shower cap. Biscuits were replaced every day. Outside facilities included 2 BBQ and seating, washing line/clothes hoist. Each room had its own table and chairs outside so you had somewhere to sit. A most enjoyable stay. Have booked again for a January visit.

QUIET AND COMFORTABLE

I wasn't too sure about this place as I was sure all rooms were upstairs, no lift and have to walk ages to the bathroom. Now I think there are rooms upstairs and there might not be a lift, but that didn't matter to me because I was downstairs and I had an ensuite bathroom. Happy days. David, the owner/host was very personable and shared some of the history of the building. I loved that it is still like it probably was way back, but with bathrooms installed. I loved the art deco painting in the reception area, the cute room for breakfast (I guess, though not used today?) Good bed, quiet and close enough to the Wallaroo Markets I could get an extra half hour shut eye. I'd stay again and would walk to the Weroona Hotel for the excellent garlic prawns and a glass of sparkling red.

Location, history, blast from the past

Great price for such a historic hotel.  The interior is historic and hasn't been modernised in decades.  So a bit old world feel to it.  Nice veranda on top floor with table and chairs.
Easy walking distance to all the touristy stuff.

historic hotel in good location

We took 4 nights at the Sonbern as a base for the Copper Triangle. Had a day in Kadina/Port Broughton, one in Wallaroo and one in Moonta/Port Hughes. A sample of SA history, country hospitality and local pubs and restaurants. All well appointed. Sonbern was clean and convenient, service friendly and efficient, appointments and value for money very good. 

Wallaroo sleepover

Had a great break from Adelaide, a real trip back in time. The room was clean and well appointed with a great bathroom. Close to everything great stop off point to visit the Copper coast. Staff friendly would recommend and stay again.

Blast from the past

This property is amazing, it’s like stepping back in time. We stayed in an upstairs room with balcony access and it was awesome. The room was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished with a period feel. The bed was very comfortable and the room also had a lounge, flat screen TV, fridge, microwave, tea/coffee and biscuits. The staff were very friendly and helpful and check in was really easy. The hotel is situated in the centre of town with off street private parking. Everything is within easy walking distance.
Wallaroo is an awesome little town with lots of pubs, restaurants and cafes, it even has a brewery and gin distillery in the Main Street which is approx 100m away.
Highly recommend a stay here........oh, it’s also great value for money!!
