Welcomed with smiles and a drink by staff upon arrival to Pelican Beach Resort - South Water Caye. This island resort is the best on the tiny island of South Water Caye, Belize. All the cottages have an ocean view and cooled with the ocean breeze. Relax on the private beach just steps from your cottage, enjoy a tropical drink on the beach or the newly added open air bar, take in the blue ocean view in a hammock, or snorkel, kayak, or paddle board in the clear, calm, blue Caribbean Sea.  

Perfect small island getaway in Belize

This Belize resort was breathtakingly beautiful. It was the perfect way to end our trip in Belize and I wish we could stay longer. The staff was absolutely amazing. The bartender Abraham was so nice and made our stay extra special as well as made us delicious cocktails. Geridee was the server for our group and her smile made our day everyday. Ben the tour guide was one of the most knowledgeable guides for the Caribea in Belize. The whole staff made us feel at home. The beach of the hotel has a sunrise & sunset.  I will 100% be back in the near future.

Best staff EVER!!

The moment you step off the boat, you know it’s going to be an amazing. The bar tender was waiting for our group with drinks and that was just the beginning. The staff introduced themselves and became friends with our group immediately. This eco friendly and pristine family owned resort should be at the top of your list. We had the whole island to ourselves and the best service you could ask for!

Amazing, relaxing & SO much fun

After days packed with adventure across Belize, our 5-night stay at the Pelican Beach Resort on South Water Caye was just the peaceful ending we craved. It was here that we truly got to relax and wind down.

The two cabins at Osprey's Nest were perfect for our family and very comfortable. My partner and I occupied one, and our kids had the next, both of them connected by a scenic deck overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea. This cabin is probably the most private one on the island and we felt very fortunate to be staying here! Lazy days were spent lounging in hammocks, lost in books and music, while the nights surprised us with either the breathtaking stretch of the Milky Way (the skies were so dark - what a treat!) or distant lightning strikes on the horizon across the Caribbean Sea.

Though it was rainy season, we were treated to many a sunny day, with the occasional storm adding to the island experience. The staff at the resort always greeted us with infectious smiles. Their warm hospitality extended to the dining experience at the main lodge where we had varied and tasty meal options. The cocktails, though not very strong, were delicious nonetheless.

Our excursions, led by our helpful and knowledgeable guide German and captain Kevin, were filled with wonder. From spotting a mother and baby manatee to visiting a bird-rich island, every moment was enchanting. Snorkelling, both during our excursions and around the island, introduced us to the mesmerising marine life Belize boasts of. We saw sting rays, nurse sharks, parrot fish, barracuda, tarpons, butterfly fish, hermit crabs, needle fish, scorpion fish, beautiful corals. German pointed out lots of amazing wildlife on our trips. My partner and eldest even brought back a bounty of snappers from a specially organised fishing trip, which became our delicious dinner!

One morning's surprise - the sight of turtle tracks and adorable baby turtles - was especially magical for my marine-biologist-in-the-making son. He's still talking about it now! And while there were many activities available, from kayaking to paddle boarding, there was also the sweet temptation of doing nothing but lazing around.

Our interaction with the Pelican Beach Resort extended to their branch in Dangriga on the mainland, where our delicious pre-island meal and subsequent swift transfer to Belize International Airport made us appreciate their seamless service even more.

To anyone yearning for a getaway where you can truly disconnect (though, yes, WiFi is available in the main lodge if you need), I can't recommend Pelican Beach Resort at South Water Caye enough. It's an experience that allows you to bask in solitude, nature's beauty, and unparalleled hospitality.

A Relaxing and Beautiful Tropical Paradise

We spent 5 days at Pelican Beach- SWC in May 2023. What an incredible place to vacation! From our initial reception on the dock by the staff it was a wonderful experience! Byron, the manager, took care of all the details. Rexie, Atsam, and Dinah, served us three delicious meals a day. Heraldo mixed up a variety of tasty tropical drinks. Jay, and Alben, took us on great snorkel adventures and birding expeditions. We felt like we were on our very own private island retreat! This is such a fantastic location. We had a beautiful bungalow with a large deck looking out on the barrier reef. The beach is gorgeous, complete with hammocks and lounge chairs. The snorkeling is so good, just off the beach! We saw spotted eagle rays, barracuda, bonefish, and nurse sharks all just off the dock. This is my little Heaven on Earth! 

Heaven On Earth

We returned from Pelican Beach almost a month ago, and I'm still raving about it. My husband and I, a 60ish retired couple, spent a week there. The staff was super accommodating, from the manager (who let us change cabins), to the hardworking housekeeper ("You changed cabins? Ok. I'll get that one ready for you too. No problem!"), to the cook and helpers (gluten free/dairy free/fish and veggie meals only, specially made-Yummmm!), to the boat driver and to the EXTRAORDINARY  snorkeling guide (nurse sharks, huge turtle, rays), to the new lovely bartender/waitress, to the beach bartender (let's talk photography!) to the ever present groundskeepers...did I forget anyone? Your kindness, service, desire to do your best, local knowledge, etc made our trip absolutely more than we ever dreamed of! We loved meeting the few other visiting couples and we're thrilled when we had the whole resort to ourselves at the end of our stay. The  small library helped me identify every Belize marine animal and bird I ever saw and the beautiful cabin and beach helped us find solitude, beauty, and pinch-yourself-because-are-we-really-here-?-moments over and over again. We are so grateful for all your hospitality!

AMAZING!!

If you're looking for a luxury resort with all the amenities you could ever dream of, this might not be the spot for you. But if you're feeling a little adventurous and looking for a rustic paradise, this is your place.

To get to/from SWC requires a ~40min boat ride, and depending on the weather it could be rough. It's windy and wavy, but it's also beautiful. We flew Tropic Air to Dangriga airport, then Pelican Beach Resort Dangriga sent a car to take us from the airport to the hotel. It's a 1min car ride and we could have walked, but the ride in a cool car was very appreciated. Once at the Dangriga hotel, we waited a small time until the boat was ready to go to SWC. 

On SWC, accommodations are split into cottages. We stayed in Heron's Hideaway, which did not have AC or flushing toilets. (Again, totally fine with us!) Heron's is on the east side of the island and was extremely breezy, which we welcomed on such hot and humid days and nights. We left our windows and doors open all the time and enjoyed the ocean breeze coming through. Had we been in a cottage more inland or on the west (leeward) side of the island, I think we would have felt uncomfortable. Heron's was charming and more space than we needed, but allowed us to spread out. We had a private balcony with chairs and hammocks that overlooked the mangroves immediately below us and barrier reef farther out. Our views were incomparable.

Our meals were included in the price of stay, and we were never once disappointed. Chef Rambo and Brandon ensured we never went hungry, and cooked us gourmet food for every meal. We were also able to taste many traditional Belizean dishes. And lots of fresh seafood, my dream. 

Byron, Rixie, and Heraldo opened as many Belikin beers as we asked for, and were constantly around to answer our questions or check in. Their hospitality and attentiveness was unmatched, and we were thankful to have them as our hosts.

Captain Kevin and snorkel/adventure guide German took us out for a few half-day snorkeling tours. Kevin is a skilled boat captain and German is a walking encyclopedia of marine life. His enthusiasm and passion for the ocean was contagious, and he was eager to point out all sorts of fish, shells, sharks, turtles, slugs, urchins, and other species that we might have otherwise missed.

The island itself feels quaint. There are a few other "resorts" that share the island, but it all felt very sleepy when we were there. Some sailboats anchor in the bay, and guests might come ashore for dinner or drinks. It's otherwise very quiet and private, and we felt forced to relax and enjoy where we were. Wifi is only available at the main house, and that was totally fine by us. We tested out the kayaks, snorkeled on the reef, and walked around. 

We visited PBR-SWC for our 10th anniversary. We wanted off-the-grid but without the work, and I felt we got that experience here. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to visit here, and will 100% return if given the opportunity.

Exceeded all expectations

I was blown away by the incredible wildlife sightings. Ospreys soaring overhead, eagle rays gracefully gliding through the water, and pelicans diving into the sea were just some of the breathtaking moments I experienced.

The pristine waters around South Water Caye are a haven for marine life, and the opportunity to snorkel and witness the underwater wonders was a highlight of my trip. The resort, Pelican Beach Resort, provided me with snorkelling gear, and I could explore the nearby coral reefs and encounter a kaleidoscope of colourful fish and even a graceful eagle ray gliding by. It was a surreal experience that left me in awe of the natural beauty of Belize's waters.

The island of South Water Caye itself is a tropical paradise. The powdery white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, and crystal-clear waters make it a postcard-perfect destination. The secluded and tranquil atmosphere of the island allowed me to unwind and reconnect with nature.

My stay at Pelican Beach Resort in South Water Caye was truly unforgettable. The incredible wildlife sightings, delicious food, refreshing drinks, and stunning natural beauty of the island made it a dream destination. I highly recommend this resort to anyone seeking a tropical getaway. I cannot wait to return to South Water Caye for more awe-inspiring wildlife encounters and cherished memories in the future.

Postcard Perfect Destination

The location is stunning, the boat ride out added to the sense of adventure. The atmosphere was relaxed, members of staff friendly and attentive and the food was home cooked and delicious.  You can experience the incredible sunrises from your bed, veranda or the lovely lookout decks.  Swimming in the crystal-clear sea watching the sun set was one of the highlights of our visit as was wildlife watching, especially the ospreys. We kayaked and snorkelled to the reef which is incredibly near.
