This quaint bungalow building was a good stay for a night. It’s basic but comfortable. It’s recently been bought by the Chinese who are building a casino soon so it’s being left to run into the ground a bit. No yes coffee or restaurant anymore and the pool tiles are broken and in need of replacing. Rooms are functional and clean. Everything what you need for a 1 or 2 night stay. Most rooms are rented to long term Chinese residents so expect noise at late hours of the evening and early morning. Still recommended for location and proximity to restaurants!

For what you get this place is way overpriced. The rooms are somewhat dated. Somewhat clean. Somewhat comfortable. 
This place is very very noisy. Before the influx of all the Chinese a room like this was $10-15. Now $40. 

I would pass on Sihanoukville now. Not what it used to be. 

I have been going to Sihanoukville for 20 years and I just recently returned from there. It use to be a quaint little seaside town full of Cambodian culture and reasonable prices. Unfortunately for us the tourists and more for the Cambodian people this city is completely lost to the Chinese. I counted 7 new Casinos. I use to pay $25-35 for a boat for the day. Now $100. Everything is way overpriced. 

The name I heard used now for the city is CHINANOUCKVILLE!!!
The place is completely over run with Chinese. The beaches are filthy with litter, garbage and plastic. 

To bad. Don’t waste your time or money. Definitely not worth it.

Over Priced

Feel the shit, there's only Chinese bete walking around naked like animals, the city's broken, the shower's poop, the toilet's clogging every time I make a crutch!

No one. No one.

Recent changes to this small village town have really altered the vibe and atmosphere here...lots of demolition and construction of new Chinese Casinos have spoilt the serenity completely..the locals don't like it and will tell you. Rents for the locals have doubled since workers and intrusion by Chinese has begun. It is very dirty as well with all the demolition and destruction. Change your plans if you can. This guesthouse is basic and ok..but dear for what you get.

If you can...give Sihanoukville a miss

I lost my shoes there in 02.03.18 immediately After I enter the room for haft hour. Then when I went to the receptionist to check secure camera in front of my room to see who stole my shoes but don’t show that for me. please be careful your shoes if you stay there.

Poor Services (theft stole the shoes)

We chose this place because most of our usual choices in town were full-in Sihanoukville this can now mean only we only rent to a particular type of tourist that is now everywhere, and it was in a quieter part of the beach road. Everywhere is next to a building site now, this is no exception so be warned if you’re not up to speed on the massive development going on! 
The rooms are comfortable, the bathrooms are good. Tv, fridge, a/c , wardrobe and a safe but the room was very small! We tried for a small discount if we stayed a week but they wouldn’t budge. The pool is nice and kept clean, but very close to the surrounding rooms so if people are sat outside it’s all a bit up close. We spoke to some people who’d stayed here a year ago and apparently the owners were always here checking on everything and making sure it was spotless. Not so anymore and the cleaners were spotted in a room someone just checked out of, shaking the sheets and putting them back on the bed!!
We checked out at this point. Have a look around, we got a much bigger room for ten dollars less. 

A bit overpriced..

It was once. It was a beautiful place. Small simple but clean and pleasant one-room bungalows arranged in U-shape. In the middle of it is a pretty clean pool. And all this is just near the beach. The greatest thing was the integrated restaurant with international cuisine. Why did the boss just shut down the restaurant forever. The other one suffers too. Now for this one, you have to drive to the center with a tuk-tuk. All in all, the makara costs one to one and a half points. Really a shame for the once great place.

Loss of quality

Stayed there for 5 nights in total.  When we left for the islands they stored our luggage there.  Staff was very polite and helpful.  The restaurant did not operate at all so there was no breakfast/coffee option on site.  

a memorable stay overall

Makara Bungalows are located 100 meters from the beach about halfway between the ferry terminal and the far end of Ochheuteal Beach. The beach in this area is just lovely and the hotel itself is great value. The rooms are genuinely poolside, literally three steps from your room door and you’re in. The room is fine and the staff are just super. Very impressed with the wifi: could stream BBC and Sky Sports via a VPN through my tablet without interruption.

But... there is no coffee anywhere to be found. Not in the room, not in the hotel restaurant, not even in the Ma and Pa kiosk across the street from the hotel. There is a beach stall selling coffee 500 meters down the road, but the nearest cafe with wifi is about 1 kilometer away. After 8pm, there are very few (if any) eating options within a 15 minute walk of the hotel.

If you’re not a coffee drinker and aren’t into late night snacking, then game on. Otherwise, look for something a bit closer to the ferry terminal.

No coffee

My family and I have stayed at Makara Bungalows on January 15th, 2017. We were already staying at Sihanouk Ville for 2 nights at other 2 different hotels and we enjoyed very much. However, Makara Bungalows did destroy our holiday overnight. There was plenty of mosquito inside our rooms and the staff didn't care at all. At 6 pm we were swimming in the pool but you know, the front desk staff was keeping an eye on us seemed like he was afraid that we would make much noise while swimming. We even told him beforehand we would swim at 6pm and wouldn't make noise but he still acted that way. In the morning of 16th, we were checking out and left an AC remote under the blanket. That staff was checking our rooms, he couldn't find the AC remote. He accused us that we must have taken the remote. We told him to make a double check and he found it. Do you know what was next? He came out and shouted that " Next time, put every remote control on the table before u leave!". Unbelievable, right? How could he? It's his work and duty to check and prepare rooms, NOT customers! We were really angry and were arguing. That staff pointing his finger at us and even bad-mouthed untrue words about us to other customers who were watching there. That kind of staff shouldn't has been recruited, especially as a front desk receptionist. Front desk receptionist is the face of the hotel or company since he/she is the one who firstly meets customer and show his/her first impression. Rude people are NOT qualified! Manager should be aware of this or fail your business.
