We only spent one night here, but loved it and plan to return again. This inn IS quirky, and quaint and so long as you go with the right expectations - you'll have a great time. It's not a Marriott... it's an old fashioned inn, a little past it's hey-day, but charming and exactly what we look for in a little village like Knowlton. 

Auberge Lakeview in is walking distance to everything in the village of Knowlton. It's located on a quiet street. It's clean, and the owners truly care about their inn. Between COVID and people who are more interested in swishy boutique hotels, I'm sure the last few years have been pretty tough for them, but our impression is they are doing their best with the hand they've been dealt. (So, try it, check it out - go with an open mind). 

Yup, it's a bit dated - but it's different - and that's cool. Did I mention - it's clean. It has a lot of character - and Shelly who looks after the tea room and bar (and seems to wear many hats) has some great stories about its history and even some fun ghost stories. She's very personable and bubbly. 

The restaurant was closed when we were there, but that was fine - there are some lovely restaurants in Knowlton to check out and in neighbouring Sutton (15 minutes away) or Bromont. We didn't watch TV or bother with the internet - instead we recommend taking an evening stroll or checking out Brome Lake Books and picking up something great to read (you might even run into author Louise Penny if you're very lucky). We popped into the bar in the evening for a chat and a whiskey with Shelly, and played a few tunes for her (we're musicians).  It made for a lovely evening. 

Old inns like these are gems, and sadly disappearing... If you like really fluffy pillows, toss yours in the car and bring it. The price is pretty reasonable compared to what other places are charging, it's in a quiet location, and offers all the necessities (minus the frills). Think of it as a fun adventure. We look forward to returning.

A Diamond in the Rough - Give it a Chance, and Have some Fun!

So planned a last minute romantic get away for my wife and I. Almost everywhere was booked solid so was happy to find something in the general area we wanted

Neutral, can't really call this a negative but this place is super dated yes it opened in 1873 but somethings could use some updated it does feel like you are visiting that Aunt that  never married

No AC  however the ceiling fan was quite powerful and if you opened the window it was doable 
Internet was terrible 
No elevator ( be warned the railing on the stairs is super low and can be awkward for anyone tall
Price  - wasn't outrageous but was not a bargain but it was a long weekend so not that terrible

Enjoyable

This is a unique place, where you can feel that you go back in time...very special hotel boutique museum, with excellent customer service. Run by family members who care about your stay.  i would recommend it.

Amazing place, very clean and great service!

We five women spent two nights at this quaint inn. The owner and staff provided helpful personal attention, adding to our enjoyment of beautiful Knowlton. The hotel is walking distance to restaurants and shops.

Personal Service

When we arrived, there was no one at the reception, we had to call to get someone. On the other hand, the owner was very kind and hospitable. We also noticed a very strong pot-pourri smell (a little too intense!) in the common areas. The room was very small and the air conditioning didn't really work (no control of this one in the room). We slept the window open to get less warm but we were facing the street, so very noisy. Beautiful antique furniture and accessories in the common areas, very nice central staircase. We were disappointed because the restaurant and pub in the hostel were not mentioned at the time of booking for over a year.

Charm of the past

Was treated like a trespasser. Van,the owner,
was ignorant and rude.  Not really sure why anyone would go there let alone Hillary Clinton.  Larry, the night watchman was very accomidating and polite.  Again , the owner , wasn't understanding and raised his voice to me.   No meals were available.

Terrible ownership

Service was slow. Food was ok but cold. No one came to ask how are meal was until we had finished. No apology when I said meal was cold and bland and service was slow. We only stayed because we were there for a show. The show was fantastic. Laura Teasdale and Ralph Steiner, incredible performers.

Went for dinner

The restaurant with the menu with the choice of meals is not gastronomic at all! Very ordinary duck burger with very few condiments and very few fries! Fish n chips not homemade (frozen). The server not very smiling! Really disappointed on the kitchen side, it's better to go out to eat. Pool unheated but clean. The advertising on the site is not representative at all. The Inn itself has a lot of stamps it's like being in a museum. Very small room but comfortable and quiet. Beautiful gallery where you can relax. The gentleman at the reception is very welcoming and smiling!

It's a nice seal, but no more!

One night in a room with no air conditioning, the pool was not heated as promised and not very clean.

It can do much better!

28 rooms, built in 1874, major renovations in 1986, it would be necessary to take it seriously this hotel needs love. Small but still comfortable room. A/C that struggles to go below 24 degrees. Maintenance and cleanliness at a minimum, obsolete long chairs at the swimming pool that is not heated. Lunch, dinner and dinner available at the hostel but it is deserted. Why? It is better in the nearby city centre, all within walking distance. But for dinner, the whole village and the hostel kitchen are closed as early as 9pm on a Saturday night in summer!
