West Lake Ainslie

We stayed two nights in this beautiful accommodation. The breakfast was very delicious. The rooms are lovingly decorated and very clean. We would go there anytime. The homemade apple jelly was delicious!!!

Glorious Accommodation With Nice Hosts

The hosts were very friendly. The rooms were very clean and quiet and the breakfast was delicious. My only complaint is that the beds in the Gillis Room were very hard and not comfortable (for me at least), but I still recommend it. You will be a 20 minute drive from Inverness, which isn't bad except the roads are very dark at night. 

Overall I enjoyed my stay 

We knew from the description that the inn was in a rural and quiet setting and that’s what we were looking for in our Cape Breton visit.  It was our landing spot as we explored the coast, the interior, and the highlands. 

Our room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable.  
Keith was a gracious host and showed a genuine interest in our daily adventures.  We thoroughly enjoyed Elizabeth’s meals, the fresh coffee, the beautiful property and views.  We had a lovely chat with the hosts as we were preparing to leave.  We felt like we left some new friends behind as we drove away from Tulloch Inn.

Comfortable and Inviting Inn with delicious breakfasts

The Inn is absolutely stunning.  Large rooms. beautifully decorated, sound proof making it quiet. Second floor deck was enjoyable with the lake view. The hosts Keith and Elizabeth took such great care of us. We are looking forward to returning one day. Being scent free house was a big plus for me as I am sensitive to fragrances. 

What a delight!

My brother and I stayed with Elizabeth and Keith for two nights at their lovely inn. Since we asked for separate beds, we we accommodated in the Gillis room-a handicap accessible room on the first floor. This room has French doors out to the balcony, with a little table in front. 
In the evening, as we shared a bottle of wine enjoyed the lake view, and discussed everything (we don’t see one another often), Elizabeth generously offered wine glasses and ice for our unrefrigerated bottle of wine. She actually lent us a cute ice bucket.
There are so many nice touches here.
At breakfast, there are linen napkins, and individual pitchers for cream and maple syrup.
Breakfasts were delicious and appealing—scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with homemade strawberry jam. Homemade pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruit.
The coffee is top notch. 
The Tolloch Inn is off the beaten path and now on my must stay list whenever I visit Cape Breton.

Restful, accommodating, very special

We were warmly greeted by Elizabeth and Keith MacPhee and it was an easy checking.  Our room was on the second floor facing lovely lake Ainslie. Our room was really large and had a balcony.  The king bed was super comfortable and they provided all the toiletries.  

They served a perfect breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Coffee of course.  I learned that the MacPhee’s built this inn 19 years ago.  It is really beautiful.  

This was my first time staying at a place like this and I am really glad we did!

A beautiful inn with gorgeous views

This place was really lovely!! I wasn’t there for long because I arrived late and left early. 

What I did notice in the short time was the friendliness of Keith and the cleanliness of the Inn. I stayed in MacFarlane room. It had a lovely comfortable bed with an adjoining bathroom. It was situated at the front of the house so no real views to speak. It was very quiet the other guests were very respectful. The breakfast in the morning which is included was scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with coffee all served with a silver service!! It was perfect! 

Only cons would be to have some available power outlets to charge a few devices. But that is just minor. 

It was a bit out the way but all part of the adventure.

Tulloch Inn superb

This is a really beautiful B&B located just near Ainslie Lake.  Even the drive down to the B&B, through a woods, is lovely.  Rooms are large and comfortable and have a nice view of the lake.  There are porches on both levels.  The owners were welcoming and helpful and provided provided a tasty breakfast in the morning.

Having visited many Inns, Motels and Cottages in Cape Breton I have to say The Tulloch Inn is my favourite spot. The Inn is quite isolated and thus very quiet and peaceful. Your hosts Keith and Elizabeth will do anything to make your stay more comfortable.
The rooms are bright, spacious, very clean and well maintained and fully equipped with wifi, a/c, TV, DVD, and very comfortable top quality beds and bedding. Your room rate includes a full cooked breakfast served in a charming dining room. 
With advance notice, Elizabeth will personally prepare dinner for her guests - her culinary skills are superb and if you are lucky enough to enjoy dinner here you will not be disappointed.
Otherwise you will have a 20 minute drive to the nearest half decent restaurant. 
If you are planning an overnight visit or longer in the Inverness area, The Tulloch Inn May not be the closest spot but for value and quality it is highly recommended and well worth the 20 minute drive. 

One of the best in Cape Breton 

Tulloch Inn is located aout ten miles outside Inverness on the west side of Lake Ainslie.  The mailing address is Scotsville, but Tulloch Inn is not on Scotsville's eastern side of the lake.  As you're proceding south on West Lake Ainslie Road, look for the white Tulloch Inn sign at 2795, on the left side of the road.  The drive into Tulloch Inn is about 1/4 of a mile along a one-lane dirt driveway.  

Tulloch Inn is in a quiet, rural setting.  It has six guestrooms; we stayed in the McFarland Room.  The room was clean and comfortable, but dated.  The bed was comfortable, though the pillows were unusually flat, too flat to be comfortable.  Also needed are a clock, clear instructions for using the TV, and an accurate TV channel listing.  

Morning noise in the hall will be heard, as all six guest rooms are on the second floor.  Note:  no elevator available.  

When you check in, you'll be asked to choose a time for breakfast.  The breakfast menu is pre-set, choices are limited, but the prepared food was very good.

For dinner, it's an easy drive in to Inverness, where we'd recommend Route 19 Brewing (see separate review).  For fine dining, there's Panorama or the Cabot Bar.  For ultra-fine dining, make a reservation at Glenora Distillery, about three miles south of Inverness.  

Bottom line, hospitable hosts Keith and Elizabeth provide a comfortable place to overnight at Tulloch Inn.
