A stay at the Auberge Sur Mer was just the experience my wife and I were hoping for during our first visit to the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.   The very welcoming staff took great care of us, cheerfully fulfilling our every request.   The rooms are not large but they are thoughtfully appointed and up-to-date while respecting a centennial heritage.  An don't visit the boutique unless you have lots of space in your luggage.  

Two features really stood out: our private balcony overlooking the rich estuary shore and a sweeping expanse of river, with hundreds of migratory birds (and a very large seal) passing by; and the Auberge's restaurant, April.  The meals were simply excellent and the service was adept, attentive, and friendly.   

We enjoyed our stay so much that we juggled the rest of our itinerary to remain another night.   Quiet, pet friendly, easy beach access, nearby walking trails and viewpoints.   Blissful.

So Good We Stayed An Extra Night

We stayed in the main building as it was a last-minute booking and the motel was full. The room was comfortable and we had a little balcony. Sat outside watching the herons with binocs and a glass of wine before dinner, perfect. Staff lovely, restaurant meal was fabulous. Especially vegetarian dish. All in all, can't wait to stay again.

Beautiful interlude Travelling from Ontario to NS

When we booked we had specified a motel room on the ground floor for two nights with king bed and when we arrived c was a room on the ground floor with a tiny balcony with bars and queen bed. the very kind receptionist mentioned to us that it was a new employee who had made the booking and that king beds did not exist at this place and that unfortunately the person did not know the difference between the beds. so she offered us to change the room for one on the ground floor as requested at the time of booking but only then had one available night we had to leave the next day. unfortunately I find the motel very noisy and the rooms smell bad.

Disappointment

Good comfort, good view and good lunch, but it's time to renovate the rooms and especially the bathroom, the insulation of the rooms is also obsolete, the quality/price ratio is poor.

A place to renovate!

Our room was recently renovated. The bathroom is well designed but the sink space is ONLY suitable for thin people. This disadvantage will be very frustrating for anyone with a few extra pounds. NO decoration on the walls and furniture of lower quality (no chair). Very minimal night tables.

The ageing hostel

The location is beautiful and what a view of the river, but that's it! The room is old with stained ceiling tiles, the plumbing of the toilet and the shower that runs all night long, no air conditioning or elevator, so don't come with big luggage. The beds are gritty and the sound insulation doesn't exist. So if it's not for the view, I don't recommend. How can you still rent such rooms these days.

Really very disappointed

My boyfriend and I went to the hostel for the second year in a row. We love this place. But it's true that the rooms (in the motel) lack a little love... We heard people walking upstairs, the bathroom is a little disappointing, the beds are a little too and the mat in the room was a little dirty..

A relaxing stay

We were recommended this Auberge as a good place to stop over on a two-day trip to the Maritimes in mid-June. As we know from past experience that summer rooms get booked up in advance, we booked two dates to stay going and returning. We also asked to reserve a table at the Auberge restaurant at the same time as we booked the rooms. On the out bound trip, we stayed in single story motel where the rooms have a balcony overlooking the river. The room was modest but clean modern and functional. I noted that the sliding door when closed, reduced the sounds of the waves, good for light sleepers. We purchased a bottle of wine at the bar and took it back to our room before eating at restaurant with windows overlooking the river. This is a popular place so booking well ahead is necessary. We also had breakfast there, the attractive flower arrangements on each table was a feature as well as the excellent cooking.
On our return in early July we had booked a room in the main building which is historic and so the fittings are  dated but functional. our room had a bath, the motel rooms have showers. As our return visit was on a Sunday the restaurant was closed but we again had a fine breakfast. All our engagements with the staff were very pleasant and we will certainly make the Auberge sur Mer a regular stop on our yearly drive to the Maritimes.

An excellent place to stay on route to the Maritimes

Almost $500 for two nights in a very disappointing room on the second floor, we felt like we were in a low-end motel... In the room, carpet stained in several places, yellow tile ceiling that gets cleared with dusty ventilation grills and ragged fabrics. The beds are uncomfortable, mattresses and sheets are stained (tasks well visible in many places on the bathroom floor). There is no water in the bathroom, it is even difficult to simply wash the clothes. An unpleasant cigarette-like smell persists throughout our stay, especially in the bathroom.

We loved this inn. Very nice place by the sea. The staff is very kind. The fish are very good. The atmosphere is very nice. It's easy to park. I'd go back even if the guest table isn't very elaborate.
