What a beautiful hidden gem! We stayed for only 1 night, travelling to Jasper. Which was a shame, because the campground was absolutely beautiful! Situated next to the river, great amenities, very friendly staff. Nice little playground. Wow! Would definitely recommend staying here.

Hidden gem

A lovely view of this place on the edge of the Fraser River. A beautiful garden. Cozy cabins. The place is a little outdated but cozy is a very good option for a night or two and even many RVs with families enjoy the place.

I booked a room through Booking.com about 3 weeks ago before taking my mother on a trip to Valemount. I chose this place after seeing their pictures with the nice sitting areas and the building next to the river. We got there around 6 pm. There was an old gentleman who did my check in. I was given a room (I think room 4 or 5) in a building by a busy road. The rooms next to ours were occupied by some firefighters who were smoking by their door. The room was very dark and it smelled like a smoking room based on the strong weird smell we noticed inside. The door lock was very old (we were given one old style key) and seemed unreliable. No internet password was offered to us, so I don't know if the place has wifi! I went back and asked the gentleman if he was sure that the room he gave me was a non-smoking room. He said: "Why? Do you want to smoke?" Than I asked him if he could give us a different room in the building by the river. I mentioned that the room he gave us was by a busy road and next to some firefighters with their pick up trucks parked right in front of our door, so I doubted the room would be quiet. The gentleman became increasingly frustrated and started an argument about the firefighters, raising his voice. He told me: "If you are SPOILED, you can take your money back and leave!" I was shocked! I told him that I was looking for a room in the building by the river, as I am a nurse working in a hospital and I came there to spend four relaxing days. He cut me off in the middle of my sentence: "I don't care why you are here!" I said: "so, you don't care about your customers!" 
When I told him that I visited Valemount last year, he asked me why I booked at his place now. I told him that the nice pictures with the rooms in the building by the river made me come at his place. It was around 0630 pm when I returned to the room to look for other motels around. I was luck to find plenty of rooms available in Jasper which was only one hour away. I was extremely tired after being on the rood the entire day, however, I realized that it was better to leave this place than staying at a place of someone who does not have manners, and verbally abuses his customers. I got my money back and returned to Jasper. While leaving this place,I told this guy that what made me leave was mainly his attitude and lack of customer service! 
Bottom line is that the gentleman owner of the place needs to learn some customer service skills, otherwise they would lose customers!

We usually go 2 or 3 times a year for the last 4 years during the summer and stay in one of the cabins. Very clean bathrooms.  Friendly staff and dog friendly (we take 4!) with no extra charge!  Only  an hour from Jasper for a day trip. Also close to Mount Robson.  Great place to stay for 3 or 4 days. Highly recommend.

Favorite place to stay

Pulled in about 2:00 pm Val checked us in and showed us to our site. As we set up we found that our electrical outlet had an Open Ground which is a saftey hazard. she told us we could move sites to a 15 amp service or she would refund us our money and we could leave. She really pushed for us to leave, but never came out and asked us to leave. as we were tired we opted to stay in the 15 amp site as it wasn't very hot and we most likely would not need our A/C. Move over to the other site and the weather proof covers and face plates for sites #5 & #6 were both missing. i checked the service with my electrical reader and both were functioning properly. However with no cover there is nothing preventing the weather from getting to the wiring and causing a short or worst yet a child possibly sticking their finger in the box and getting electrocuted. I pointed this out to Val and she said that her electrician was coming in the morning and if that wasn't good enough for me we were free to recive a refund and Leave.

Very nice place on the surface but an electrical hazard waiting to happen

Unfortunately not as expected, the reputed restaurant has been closed for a long time (this was for a reason to stay there). The shop at the reception was rather unattractive and very clearly stocked (eggs, chips and beverage cans), which is not hospitable in a non-existent restaurant. We had to drive 32 km around to get a pizza at a gas station. The showers/WCs were clean, the cabin was not well cleaned. All in all, not a good press performance ratio.

Disappointed

This lodge is located in the lap of nature right on the bank of Fraser river – close to the junction of Yellowhead Highway and Highway 5. We stayed here earlier and based on the very positive experience we gathered, we decided to stay here this time as well.

When I called to book a room, Ted was nice enough to reserve the room of my choice – the same room that we stayed in during our last visit. And when we arrived, Debbie checked us in that took no time at all.

I found the room renovated. But sadly, the ornamental design on the wall just below the ceiling was gone. That design made this room unique. However, everything else looked better. I was delighted to find the restaurant operational (that was closed during our last visit) with the addition of a huge riverfront patio.

We went to the restaurant and had a conversation with Yvonne. She was a charming lady to talk to, and was very helping. The restaurant offered a buffet dinner as well as an a la carte menu. There was an option to add salad bar and/or dessert to the hot buffet. I was pleasantly surprised to find the buffet very reasonably priced despite the restaurant being located in such an isolated place. The dining time was very relaxed and convenient – from 5 pm to 9 pm.

We went for a full buffet (hot buffet, salad bar and dessert). Although the buffet spread was not very huge, it was a balanced combination of several not-so-common great tasting homemade dishes. The taste actually surpassed our expectation. We ate and ate and ate - indulging ourselves with multiple helpings of soup as well as dessert with other items in between. The way my wife ate would defy the fact that she is a small eater. The constant looking after by very energetic and active Ellie made the dining experience even more pleasurable. 

Post-dinner, we wanted to meet the chef to convey our appreciation of his culinary skills. And out came Bill Tarkanen – to talk to us. It was revealed that the entire Tarkanen family is working behind the scene. While Tara (Bill’s wife) lends Bill a hand in cooking, Graham (their son) does the dishes. 

So, was everything perfect about our stay ? Well, not really ! A length of hanging twisted metal wire (presumably used for hanging a flower pot or something similar) right in front of the middle of one of the windows was an eyesore for me when I wanted to look at the beauty of the nature through the window. Ted and Debbie – will you please remove it ? It’s in front of the window that overlooks the patio (not the one that overlooks the river). I will indeed be happy to find it removed when I come back to stay here again.

It is a place that compels me to come back again and every time I stay here, I bring back sweeter memories !

I found this searching google maps, I also drive by it each way when I'm headed from AB to BC.
I didn't know it was so cute and cozy! Or that the restaurant, with a home cooked buffet, was so amazing!
Perfect night stop with views and little walking trails! 
Great little place, I could stay a few nights!

Hidden Gem Tete Jaune lodge

We have stayed at the lodge several times in both the motel and bungalow. Staff is very friendly and responsive. The facilities, including the RV park and shower/washroom are outstanding and very clean. The food in the restaurant is amazing and the large deck offers an amazing view of the Fraser River and surrounding mountains.  Great facilities for a couple, group of friends or family of all ages. Central to all activities the area has to offer. 

Great value amazing food

Loved this park!  Right on the banks of the Frasier River.  Our Hostess, Valerie (a local) was great.  The park is a bit pricey but well worth it.  The y also offer beautiful log lodges for rent, although we had our own RV.
