It is such a shame that the owners have let this "Heritage Status",property, run down so badly. There are numerous holes in the roof and the yard / garden is not kept up at all. The surrounding areas are not kept up either.The water pressure and temperature are poor. They don't turn the heat on enough in the winter and you have to wear a jacket to stay warm. It seems as though they don't really care about the house, never mind the guests. But they are happy to take your money. Stay away. Spend your money elsewhere. It is only going to get worse and there will be more and more complaints made. The City of Vancouver will probably force them to shut down, operating as a so called B & B, eventually. And it should be shut down.

1st Shaughnessy Run Down

Upon the arrival to a quiet residential area, my friend and I were instructed to find our keys in the mailbox of the hotel.
No ID checks, no cameras, no employees on the premises.

2 days into our stay, we returned at about midnight. Our room cleaned and absolutely empty - neither of our expensive work laptops, nor backpacks, shoes, clothes, chargers, extra iPhone, wallet with cash and ID - every little thing was gone from our room!!!

It seemed like a terrible mistake, our phone batteries were dead, and we went to bed hoping to clarify it the next morning.
Contacting the Inn's management in the morning proved impossible - neither the phone numbers on the wall nor booking.com responded.
Eventually, we reached someone who knew the property management, and 3 hours later they arrived.
Unaware of what happened, they were trying to contact the cleaning lady, Linzee Ogle, who told them the room was vacant and then stopped communicating with her employer.
Linzee never returned to her next shift and Balfour Inn management did nothing to get a hold of her.

We had to take it to the police file a case.

With no one coming to clean to replace her, and other guests doing cooking, the property turned into a smelly dirty trashed place.
I have been to many countries around the world, but have never been to a hotel as terrible and dangerous!
Left Vancouver having lost everything and absolutely heartbroken.

I wish we were more alarmed by all the bad reviews.

Hopefully, this experience will save other travelers so they avoid the Balfour Inn at all costs

VACATION TURNED INTO A STAFF THEFT WITH POLICE INVESTIGATION

The absolute worst experience of our lives ever. The owner hired a junkie cleaning lady who stole mine and my friend's every little possession (macbook laptops, kindle and nooq e-readers, $1000 in cash, shoes, earphones and much much more). This place has no security, no cameras, a total dump of a crap hole. 

We got our room keys lying openly in the mailbox(it could've been picked by any random person) and were told that our room is in the first floor (which in Canada means the ground floor). We found a room which matched our description and was unlocked. We stayed there for 2 days without ever been contacted by anyone. When we came back from touring Vancouver on our second day, EACH and EVERY LITTLE POSSESSION of ours was gone. We couldn't even reach the owner that night. The next day, the owner tried to contact the cleaning lady who claimed that there was nothing in our room. And then she stopped responding to the owner completely. We looked at the garbage and found some of our clothes and shoes there, which meant she was lying and had taken all our valuables. The owner never showed up and claimed to help us with reporting her to the police, but it was all for show and we obviously haven't recovered anything.

My friend and I got $6000 worth of our possessions stolen st this property by the cleaning lady hired by the property. It still makes my blood boil thinking about it.

Please please please avoid this scam of a dump at all costs if you want to enjoy your trip to Vancouver.

Got our stuff stolen here, stay away at all costs

I read reviews before I arrived and managed my expectations accordingly
Good points,it is in a lovely neighbourhood close by bus to downtown( in fact we used the bus services all the time and got everywhere ,they always arrive on time ,got a compass card so cheap and easy)
Close to VanDusen botanical gardens which are exquisite and the Queen Elizabeth park which has a great restaurant and views.
The double room we had was clean ,bedding didn’t match but had a double duvet over each single bed which was comfortable,only one towel each which didn’t get changed in the 4nights there ( am sure if we had seen a member of staff they would have given us more)but had a fridge and 2 armchairs plus an en-suite shower ,
Kitchen downstairs was cleaned every morning and lots of space to eat your own prepared meals and sitting room with Tv.
Rarely  saw any staff which was strange but all in all for the price it was acceptable.
Bad points was the odd smell in the house and bedroom could do with new mattresses and remove the old carpet which was stained and old.

Balfour Inn

I booked this over the phone and stupidly did not check reviews (which are not very good). We got there, keys were in the mailbox at the door. No one in sight, went to our room and it was filthy, dirty bathroom, dusty, dirty carpet (unvacuumed). I found the housekeeper and she tried to make it right by offering another room. I was to be  there for 3 nights and she was not sure if the room she showed me was available for 3 nights. I texted, left a voice mail and emailed the man that I booked with and told him the room was disgusting and that we would not be staying. Luckily he had agreed to take cash to avoid tax (I should have known then) and so we walked away and were not charged for the room. Stay away!

Disgusting!

A charming old building but old and rotten. No staff seen and no breakfast. There was no wellness as promised on the website. It is situated in a good neighbourhood near the centre of the city. There was wi-fi.

Charming but old

One of the best locations in Vancouver for a B & B stay, as it is very quiet and clean. They do not serve breakfast however, but provide a nice kitchen for you to use if you bring in your own groceries. Prices are pretty good as well and the staff are polite. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds and have a view of the city. Good local cafes and places to eat just a block or two away on Oak Street.

Balfour Inn at Shaughnessy

Do not stay here. Theres better hostels than this garbage house. 

Purchased: Queen sized bed 4 nights

Expectations: a nice historical bed and breakfast with friendly staff in a nice area.

Received: two twin beds pushed together, never even saw one employee, there is no breakfast,not even some random cereals and orange juice. Nothing. 

The ugly: we were given one tiny tiny bar of soap, two towels, and one roll of toilet paper for OUR WHOLE VISIT We had to buy our own toilet paper! Saw two rat traps as soon as we entered our room. Our room was never cleaned, we had to take out our own trash. Windows dont open, doors jam shut, and the house stinks. 

Owners should be ashamed they own this "business". Cant even show their face in their own establishment. 

Get a private room in a hostel and you'll receive more amenities, an actual breakfast, an actual queen bed, and you'll even see a staff member! All things you'll never see at Balfour Bed and... breakfast. 

Think this is a rare review, stay here and you'll regret overlooking that I warned you.

DO NOT STAY HERE, EVEN THE OWNERS ARE ASHAMED!

At the edge of safety....Poussière, smell of indoor see mold despite all the products hidden in the 4 corners of the room.
