The hotel is average, not new but clean. Breakfast selection was reasonable but consisting mostly of non-European style food. Knowledge of English was almost non existent even among the reception staff. I was in China, I know. But the hotel is called "International".

Expect delays if you do not speak Chinese

Rooms not clean, fixtures partially loose, towels poorly washed, no water in the room, toilet paper wet and foul... arriving at this hotel was very sobering!

Not an international hotel

Shenzhou International is in close proximity to Minzu University, which makes it an excellent choice to stay if you visit there. 

The hotel overall is quite nice, and comfortable. Agreed, some of the carpets might be a little dated, but that is more an effect of irresponsible guests. The rooms are actually very comfortable, clean, and pretty quiet, with very nice bedding, and a well enough appointed bathroom. The light system is indeed rather sophisticated, but easy to get used to. The room does have a water kettle, but I couldn't find the tea - bring your own.

Breakfast is an interesting affair and geared towards Chines clientele, which is fine - you are in China after all. Overall there is a bit of choice, and all is tasty. Agreed, nobody of the staff essentially speaks English, but it is easy to figure out the buffet. Coffee was actually good - much better than in most similar rank US hotels. 

Internet speed is very nice - much better again than in many US hotels!

Finally, the hotel is close to the National Library metro stop, and you can get easily to restaurants and sights via he metro.

I would definitely stay here again.

Better than expected

The only thing 'international' about the Shenzhou is the name. If you have no basic Mandarin you are in trouble at this hotel as the staff, however pleasant they try to be, has no English whatsoever. The rooms are tired, to say the least, & I frankly expected better for the prices they charge. The curtains in my room were absolutely filthy, the window had been inexpertly welded shut with caulk & the door to my room was held on by only two of its original three hinges. The room lighting was controlled by a sophisticated but unfathomable control system, & the lobby light decided to kick in & flash like a Belisha beacon for no apparent reason in the middle of the night.  The only means of turning it off was to remove the room key from the master control which killed all the electric in the room. 
There is a coffee shop in the lobby but no-one speaks a word of English & the prices are exorbitant (it's actually cheaper to take a taxi to the nearest Starbucks for a latte than to buy one at the Shenzhou !) 
All of this being said, my son was forgiving of the hotel's shortcomings simply because it had AC. He had been staying next door at the Minzu University dorms during his summer school where the only AC was an open window. There is really only one reason for staying at this hotel & that is proximity. In my case it was proximity to the Minzu University so that I could spend some time with my son. The hotel is also close to the National Library & its subway station which connects you to the rest of the city, as well as the excellent Zizhuyuan Park. There are some excellent restaurants in the vicinity & a great night market of street food on Minzu Daxue Rd, but you need a local to be your guide.

Stay here only if you must 

I stayed here for 4 nights on business this week.  After 24 hours of traveling, I was glad to have a quick and friendly check-in, and be directed to a room where everything was in good order.  The rooms (and hotel in general) are modern with all the amenities of the top western hotels.  Very comfortable beds and sufficiently quiet and dark for a good quality sleep.  Desk and power outlets were fine for US electronics (no adaptor needed).  Light switches were quirky (so many!) but everything worked.  The breakfast buffet was a nice combination of Chinese food (dumplings, green vegetables, soups) and a little western food.  I helped myself to 3 plates worth each morning.  Nice lobby and spacious breakfast area with comfortable seats and wooden tables.  The only downside during the stay was the very limited English of the staff, which meant that we needed to figure everything out via the web.  The hotel is in a busy area of Beijing, but traffic noise is not overly obtrusive.  It is a 5 minute walk from the National Library metro stop.  It is not an ideal area for eating out, but there are many restaurants a short metro ride away (Metro is just 4 Yuan).  A particularly easy place to visit is the Summer Palace, just 15-20 minutes away on the same metro line.  Several of my colleagues stayed in the nearby Hubei Hotel, which is of a similar price, but from their stories (odd smells, miserable staff, barely functional wi-fi) it appears as though the Shenzhou is far superior.  I would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity!

Excellent hotel!

Stayed here for a night for the Great Wall Marathon. The hotel is great, priced at RMB655 a night, it was really clean and the staff could do simple English and they are rather helpful during my stay there. Would definitely head back one day!

Comfortable and Clean

I had a comfortable room with a nice blanket on the bed, a spacious shower, free internet (with internet cable). Breakfast prices were quite reasonable (38 Chinese yuan = about $7) and included everything from coffee to eggs, bread and seasonal fried vegetables with meat. All you can eat. I don't understand why there are pictures of the lake here: there's no lake here, only parking. After reading other reviews, I was worried that I'd have to fight for a dress, but that didn't happen. If you have a limited amount of money, don't buy water, other drinks like a small bottle of water tomorrow.

It's a great location and comfortable rooms.

I had a comfortable room with good bedding, a spacious shower, free internet (with cable, one is provided). The breakfast buffet was very cheap (38 RMB, so a little over 3 €), there was everything, coffee, mirror beans, dumplings with pork, fried vegetables and ham. As much as you like. I don't understand the photo from the lakefront - there's no lake here, just a parking lot. I was worried because someone wrote that you have to pay to buy the wooded baths, but that wasn't it.

Great location and comfortable rooms.

I just had to ask for the room to be made every day, because the second day the bed was not made and there were only the toilet towels that were changed. But maybe it was because it was the day after the Chinese New Year? The staff were very friendly and hospitable. They speak English. Near the subway, buses and taxis. In short, to recommend.
