Located in the railway building (West Station, north plaza), this hotel lives up to Western standards: large rooms, comfortable wide beds, clean and well-maintained bathrooms, wifi (restricted as everywhere). Two subway lines come handy in the station's basement.
Staff does not speak English but if you smile, they try hard to satisfy your needs with the help of cell phone apps translating Englsh and Chinese. Takes a while, but is fun as well.
Breakfast is both Western and Chinese (more Chinese) and strangly no coffee or tea available.
In the evening, walk through the station to South plaza and watch people's rhythmic workout or stroll through the adjacent lotus pond park.
For an authentic stay, Railway Hotel is fine. If you require Western style accommodation, book somewhere else (or stay home altogether).

Very chinese, the friendly way

We missed our train to night train to Xi’an and so were looking for a place close to the trains station (and cheap) to stay the night before we caught the next available train. We had fairly low expectations for the Railway Hotel, but it was actually really good.

The location is around 300 m from the Beijing East Train Station. The rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were comfortable and I think they were King Singles as they were quite big (we were in a Twin). The shower was amazing! There were 2 shower head options and the water was hot. The rooms were really spacious and well-equipped with TV and kettle etc. The room was very quiet, especially considering the bus station is just out the front.

They had free Wifi that was slow at times. 

The front desk staff spoke little English but were keen to help and made us feel welcome. Once again, Google Translate solved any issues we had.

Pleasant surprise!

Not much English spoken here, but they are willing to try and use phone translators to communicate.  It's a very convenient place to stay, right at the train station, and easy access to the underground so you can get anywhere.  I taught in Shijiazhuang and stayed at this hotel a couple times.  It seems that the more you use the hotel, the better room you get.  By the third time I had a great room at a very affordable price.  It was clean and the shower and toilet were separated which us westerners like.  I'd stay again.

Great stay, location, and price

This hotel is terrible and everything you expect from a terrible hotel.   Uncomfortable beds, staff who doesn't speak English, unfriendly expressions, terrible restaurant and too it off an elevator that tries to kill you.   This place is just the worst (pride of China right?) let's discuss everything first as I was coming I had luggage that nobody held me with .   These lazy insects just stood there.   Afterwards again no help to carry up the bags.   The elevator forcefully closed almost hitting my infant kid (I forcefully kept it open). The staff again just stands around.   Typical smoke throughout the hotel.  Rooms aren't sound proof what so ever.   Small and moderately clean.   This is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at.   Only reason to stay here is cause it's right by railway station otherwise this is an embarrassment to the hospitality industry.   What a POS! 

Makes you remember why you hate visiting China

Super minimum english spoken till I have to touch the front desk girl hand to indicate "its okay" when she tried her best and too hard to answer my question in english. Lolz 
Im happy with our room, its spacious, overlooking the bus terminal. Theres a bit of flooding at the shower area but its not a big problem to me. Basic toiletries provided. It was super cold weather and the heater is not doing a really good job.but we were okay. 
We chose this hotel because on the 3rd day, we have an early train to xi'an. I like the convenience and avoiding the hassle of rushing with our luggage and baby pram and bagpacks to the station.
This hotel is super super near to the subway station and railway station name: Beijing West Railway Station. Maybe 3 minutes away. You can just take the subway to go anywhere.
The hotel is at the North Side of the Beijing West Railway station.

This hotel is considered 3 star hotel, but its very clean. If you come by taxi or car, your driver might not be able to send you right at the hotel's doorstep because theres no access to it due to the bus terminal. So your driver can drop you along the road near the bus terminal and you walk in abit to reach the hotel. 
If you lower your high expectation abit, you will enjoy your stay at the hotel, just like we did. 

Tips: if you do not speak their local language, please print out your booking and show it to them. I recomend to book prepaid via CTR** because your booking will have the local language too. Save the hassle.

200CNY cash for the safety deposit that you can claim back easily upon check out. Just remember to look out for the 100 CNY fake bill (which you can receive from just about anywhere in china).

Almost perfect.

This hotel is next to the Beijing West Railway Station so it is a convenient place to spend the night if you have a very early train. The free wifi connection is great and it is also next to the metro. I only booked this room for the night so I could catch my very early train the following morning. I would stay again for that convenience and the price. Otherwise I would skip it. 

Next to West Railway Station 

We had to take the train to Xian in the morning, and with the number of people who use the subway and the lines we had to do we arranged to go to this hotel a day earlier so as not to have any problems or delays. The entrance to the hotel is ugly, just the bus exits, the hallways are also ugly, but then the upper room was very good, had a view to the avenue, the heating was very good, no noise from the street. No, we hired the breakfast but we hired the hotel restaurant: plenty of portions, very clean and normal prices. - The upper room is spacious, the bathroom and all amenities were very personal, but we could not reach the subway without using the most personal information. - We did not use the subway, but we did not use the most personal information. - We did not use the subway, but we did not use the subway.

For one night.

Fine. Not more. You can get better room in Beijing for that price. Here you mostly pay for convenience although there are some other hotel around that are a little cheaper. 
The room was ok, tho the bathroom has quite old facilities. 
Generally ok but a little expensive for that. 

It's fine 

I'm not thrilled with the hotel for a few reasons: it's a very old, all shabby, dirty hotel, and the price is unreasonably high, and the staff isn't very focused on international clients.

Old and shredded

I had booked my room online and when I arrived there was no sign of the reservation, but I was finally found a room and paid less than I expected... otherwise, one night I forgot my off-price camera at the hotel reception. I thought I should make a cross over it, because the moment I forgot, the lobby was full of people... but after a long time of explanations (I don't speak Chinese), an employee came with my camera bag and my camera. My room was on the street and Beijing was very busy, I heard the noise of the street but not to prevent me from sleeping or waking up.
