I traveled solo and arrived to this hotel from the airport on the subway. Very conveniently located. The hotel room was small but very clean. It was just perfect for 1 or 2 people. I am one to select a hotel for location and of course being clean. I found this one had exactly what I needed. a few steps away from subway that connects you to several of Beijing's attractions. I would definitely recommend.

Conveniently located

First of all, pay attention when registering if your room is prepaid: the employees demanded the payment from us claiming that the online one was not available. The 45-minute chat entirely in Chinese (the employees spoke only very little English) was a painful waste of time before they miraculously found the trace of our online payment. Dishonesty, computer error or incompetence of the staff, even though it was a bit lousy. The last floor is only accessible by stairs. We had booked two large, soft rooms. The first was at the description while the small room and the chapel had two small points in the corner of the second room.

The strict minimum

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights during summer season. This hotel is a minute walk to Hepingmen subway station which is very close to the city center and few stations away from shopping areas. That is the main reason why I decided to stay here. You can also walk to The Egg. It's not very far. There is a supermarket, 24-hour convenience store and local restaurants across the highway. The famous Quanjude restaurant is beside the hotel as well. Breakfast is not included but there is a dumpling restaurant downstairs but we were not able to try it.

We arrived 2am and they almost messed up our booking even though I specified in my Agoda reservation that we will arrive very late. Good thing they found a vacant room but told me that the AC is not working properly so they will give us another room the next day. When we went up to check the room, the AC seems to be working fine with just a minor issue. We needed to wait for about 20 mins before the air gets cooler. After that, it could get really cold. We even had to turn it off in the morning because we were freezing. We decided not to go through the hassle of changing rooms anymore. At least they were honest about the malfunction. 200 rmb deposit is required but you can get it back upon check-out if you did not avail anything with extra charges. The receptionists don't speak much english but good thing they can write basic words down on paper or they will use a translator on their smartphone to try to communicate with you. I can speak very basic mandarin but I guess they weren't sure if I can understand them. They will do their best to help you. It just takes more effort for them if you don't speak chinese fluently and even harder if you don't speak any at all.

The room we stayed in is a double with 2 queen beds. We're a couple so we just stayed in one bed and used the other one for our stuff. By the way, that was the hardest mattress we've slept on in our entire life! You'll get used to it in a few mins though if you don't think about it too much. The window on the 5th floor has minimal view even though it's big because it was covered with steel structures which hold the hotel's outdoor signage. The floor area is 3x bigger compared to what you will get if you booked a room in Hong Kong or Singapore for the same price. I doubt you would be able to stay in a 2-3 star hotel in those cities with this price.

TV has 50+ channels all in chinese! Good thing we brought our Ipad with movies. The bathroom is the glass type most travelers are familar with. It is frosted but you can still see your roommate's business inside; could be exciting for some or a nightmare to others depending on who you're rooming with. As a couple, we didn't mind that at all. Water temperature for shower can be controlled easily. Water pressure is very good. Basic amenities include toothbrush with small almost mintless toothpaste that can last for a couple of days but are replenished everyday; a comb; toilet paper; shower gel; shampoo; 2 types of slippers - disposable and rubber; body towels; face towels and a floor towel. Hairdryer could be requested for a fee. Full length mirror is also available. There is a boiling pot with mugs and complimentary tea but we did not bother using these because they look old and dirty. There are no closets but there are hooks for your clothes. No safe inside the room and I'm not sure if there are some available at the front desk. Door lock and electricity uses the keycard system. I'm also not sure about free wifi. I forgot to ask about it since we're always tired after walking the entire day. Smoking is allowed and cigarette smell don't linger in the room or halls. They probably have good exhaust systems.

Our room is in need of renovations because of the nicks and dings on the walls and furniture but that didn't bother us that much because we're not that picky. What really turned me off are the highly visible stains on the sheets and towels. It's not on every sheet but I encountered a lot. They clean the room everyday but they should find a way to remove those or just throw them away completely. Really not a pleasant sight.

Check-out was a breeze and you could leave your luggage with them if you want to. They will provide claim stubs for that.

Overall, I would say this hotel is still a good value due to the location and room size.

The subway station is why I chose this hotel

Room is very spacious. Staff is very accommodating. Hotel is very clean and rooms are cleaned and replenished daily. Restaurant serves tasty but low priced food. FREE wifi. Toilet has toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet paper, tissue, towels, soap and shampoo and even slippers. Rooms have heaters, boiling pot, glass, coffee mugs and tea. Lots power poweroutlets (220v 2flat pins)

Cons: smoking rooms and halls. Barely english-speaking staff (but they try hard to accommodate ur request). Hot water is really hot (though perfect for winter season)
