When I arrived there was no one to be found. I had to look for someone, and found a nice enough guy who spoke a bit of English, but not much (more than I know Mandarin, anyways). Stayed in the dorms, but was the only one. The entire building seemed empty. There were signs everywhere indicating they serve breakfast and food, but perhaps they don’t do that anymore. Was looking forward to the rooftop terrace, but it was really run down and had two camping tents inexplicably taking up all the space. The whole place could use a bit of a facelift and a deep clean, but if you just need a place to stay and want hot water, this place was fine. It didn’t seem to be a fully functioning hostel, but maybe it’s better during busier seasons. 

Maybe I came during low season?

Rooms were not in very good condition, bed not very comfortable. bathroom worn out. Management speak English well and are helpful when you have a question - when you can find them. Didn't try the food here. Pros: The location is good, and the pricing is attractive.

Shabby rooms, OK service

The hostel has a great common area at the entrance where you can socialize with others.  This is a hostel, so no frills but offers what you need, a cheap room and chance to meet other travelers.  The staff are helpful and knowledgeable.  The town itself is even small enough that you can explore most of it on foot.  Expect to spend a couple days here at most unless you are doing one day trips out of town.  This a great visit on your travels from China down to Laos, Northern Thailand or vice versa.  Take some time to visit the night market next to the river for a nice and cheap evening meal

Great place to meet others

The place isn't as nice as most Chinese hostels in this price range, but it's fine. Basically clean, basically comfortable, decent coffee. The staff weren't very helpful the days I was there, but it was just before Spring Festival so that's fair, most hostels were already closed. It was easy to get to talking in the courtyard with other guests.
Don't rent bikes from there though, you can do better for a similar price.
Excellent location for going to Laos, right by the South Bus Station, 5 minute walk. 
Lockers are in the room, but not large enough for your whole bag, just valuables.

Cheap, not the nicest place, but a friendly atmosphere

Caffy (the owner) makes the difference.
She will welcome you with such an incredible smile, you'd think you would never be able to leave Jinghong anymore.
She will play piano, serving tea, helping you with all the tips you may need ... what more could you ask from a hostel?
Rooms are nothing special, but this is quite normal in China, so at one moment you stop thinking about it. Sleeping quality is still good.
Breakfasts are big and good, as the meals you can have for only 15 Yuan.
Free wifi and an amazing terrace on the 4th floor where you can enjoy the special atmosphere of th hostel and Jinghong itself.
10 mins walking from South Bus Station.
Great value for money.

Piano, Tea, Terrace ... lovely atmosphere

4 nights to explore the area. Well situated, a large quiet room, good beds (3 for 2 people) the working climate which was essential because the weather was 41° in the city, wifi is working, Caffy the charming hostess can find you guides to take a little stroll in the forest and the tea trees. Caffy and her friends will give you a taste of 10 year old tea which (I think) is Pu Erh, a 10 year old black tea made from pure, excellent and valuable.
