This hostel does not seem to serve much purpose, as the international backpacking contingent area avoiding Tongli en masse. We were not only the only foreign visitors present during our stay, but we saw only a sole Chinese guest too. The place simply has no atmosphere whatsoever, except for a desolate, abandoned vibe.

There is a small bar and restaurant but it's a case of a vicious cycle.There are next to no guests, so they don't keep most of the food in stock. We tried to order fried rice, but they didn't have rice. I mean, seriously, no rice in China? We settled on a pizza instead but it was not exactly appetizing: just a small cardboard-like base covered with gooey cheese and a mere hint of meat. 

I guess this place was cheap enough overall, at a mere 150 yuan for a double. But there just wasn't any compelling reason to recommend this place as a hostel or even a simple guesthouse.

A Sad Almost Abandoned Place

Probably not the best accommodation option in Tongli, but hey, most visitors to Tongli don't stay for more than a day anyway.  We stayed at the Taiping Bridge branch (near the main entrance of the town). Rooms were clean and serviceable but the bed, like most Chinese beds, was a little hard for our tastes.  The furniture in the room was also old scratched up and not very well-maintained.  Overall, our room looked like something you could come to expect of a cheap rental apartment in a second or third tier Chinese city, but we weren't paying a lot for it so no complaints there.  What the hostel did have going for it though was its amazing location, right at the town gate so you didn't have to lug your luggage halfway across the cobblestone streets of Tongli upon arrival.

Okay for One Night

We stayed at this central hostel and truly enjoyed the quiet town of Tongli. Most tourists come for the day since there are no big hotels in Tongli. We were traveling with our three kids and got 4 beds in a 6-bed dorm, asking the management if we could have the room to ourselves, which was no problem. The young people running the hostel were helpful and friendly. There is a pool table in the bar/common room. When I ask them to turn down the music at night, they did so right away and kept it quiet the next night we were there, too. The hostel was not very clean (floors were dirty and not vacuumed/swept properly), but all the beds and bedding were brand new.

Tongli is a gem. Stay and explore!

there are 2 hostel operate by 1 owner,1 is beside Taiping Bridge,1 is near the town gate,cross a bridge,just left hand and you can easily find it.The price is good,the room and toilet are clean.They also provide hair drier and electric kettle in room.
But the Room 203 in new hostel near the town gate is niosy because a main road is close near.
