We had a room booked but when we got there it was all locked up. We rang the number provided several times and the owner did eventually turn up but told us he had already given the room to someone else and there were now no spare rooms left. He made up various excuses but this was very dishonest, especially since we had emailed him the day before to confirm the exact time we were coming and he had replied that this was all good. Do not trust this place. There are many better options in Chungking Mansions.

My wife and I came to HK on a super busy weekend. We were able to find this spot last minute. The location of the building is great: right in the middle of TST and in front of a subway entrance. The building entrance itself is maddening. There are people everywhere and they are all trying to sell you something. Finding the right elevator can be tough for a first timer too. There are literally dozens of guesthouses packed into that building. The worst part is the elevator which is slow and small and because of the volume of people it can take up to 20min just to get to the right guesthouse. Shangri-la is actually really nice - especially by comparison to the other GH in the building which look downright scary. The building is somewhat notorious in HK. Some of my local friends were surprised that we stayed there considering the various crimes and illicit activities that have occurred there over the years. Shangri-la was good. The bedding was relatively clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very small but also pretty clean. The Aircon worked well and the wifi was pretty good. It worked fast until I tried to watch an episode on Netflix and the speed suddenly throttled. The GH and room had no insects or vermin but the building (elevator, lobby, and marketplace) were riddled with them. I would say that if you want to stay in this location there are few cheaper. But beware of the entrance to the building. Shangri-la is probably one of the better GH in the building.

Pretty good but the building entrance is infuriating

If you're just looking for somewhere to sleep and not much else, this might suffice. It's in a block that has distinct colour, though it's now far less seedy and run-down than its persisting notoriety might have you believe. As others have advised, just ignore the dodgy watch salesmen and pushy tailors' shop touts, and enjoy the multicultural madness that is Chungking Mansions.

The guest house consists of a narrow corridor with a small number of rooms. There's not much space or daylight, but it's clean and well kept with all the basics as well as a kettle and fridge in the room I used. The South Asian fellow who looks after things sleeps on a sheet of cardboard by the front door; he's friendly and helpful, but he keeps late hours, so he might on occasion disturb you with his nocturnal activities.

Well-run compact guest house above the madding crowds

I arrived alone in Hong Kong in December, and must admit I was somewhat dubious after reading some reviews of the notorious Chungking mansions. On arrival it can be rather daunting finding your guest house (the building is divided into 4 blocks A-D I believe...) and there are a lot of hawkers outside who will try to sell you everything - ignore them and make your way straight up, and you will be just fine!

On arrival to the Shangrila guest house I was shown to my room by a very pleasant man; I had a lovely comfortable double bed, shower/toilet all in one (common in Asia) and must admit I was pleasantly surprised. My room was immaculately presented, spotlessly clean (and cleaned daily, which I was not expecting!) I was even provided with a tv, kettle and coffee. The wifi signal was strong throughout and the room was quiet at night. 

Everything is within walking distance or a short MTR ride from here; the building is located in Tsim Sha Tsui, and within walking distance to the ferry terminals to HK island, Mongkok (for excellent street food), the avenue of stars and the various markets located around the area.b

I would highly, highly recommend this place and will gladly stay again if/ when I return to HK.

A pleasant surprise!

Shangrila guesthouse is located at tje 15th floor of the well known Chungking mansion is Hong Kong which is itself worth a visit.
The owner of the guesthouse is extremely kind and takes real care of his customers. He is always willing to help proposed us an uprgraded room as one was free for a night, and allowed us a late check out (4pm).
The price might not be the cheapest of the mansion, but the cleanliness of the room must however be one of the best in the mansion. Wifi is available and fast in each room.
To sum up, a good value for money expressed by the location, the very clean rooms and the availability of the staff.

I would definitely recommend this for a 1 to 4 nights stay in HK.


Clean and Very well located guesthouse 

Very good quality/price ratio Central and near metro station Clean even though the room is small but it is Hong Kong Personal very friendly and attentive, although the receptionist sleeps on the floor in the room next to the door By the direction it seems that it is difficult to find but there are two elevators for the same building because there are two blocks and it is easy.
