Very poorly maintained hotel, nothing to put his suitcases, nor hang his clothes, blathered light, on the bed a single worn sheet up to the rope, and a dubious top of bed....briefly, highly discouraged hotel, especially since a brand new, better priced establishment has just opened a few hundred meters lower (watch the blue sign on the left when entering the city)

What to Avoid

We got to know the place on Facebook and we let ourselves be carried away by the photographs, which suggested that it is a mountain hotel at an affordable and attractive price.  At first glance it seems like a nice place, but the rooms leave a lot to be desired, the bathroom stinks, despite looking seemingly clean, it smells like drainage.  The room is simple, but missing clothespins, electrical sockets and lamps.  The food was fine, but the rest detracted from the charm of the stay.  Too bad, but I think we won't be back.

Not a good place to stay

$52.00 US ($68.00 Canadian) with cash so you get what you pay for. Lighting too poor in the room to read.The bathrooms stink with sewer smell.  No face cloths. No glasses.  No closet. No Shampoo or crème rinse. The restaurant was a rip off, we ordered cocktails and not one of them had any alcohol in them at all yet we all (4 of us) got charged for the alcoholic drinks despite trying to argue it. There's no wine on the liquor menu although there's wine in some recipes.? The food was good but nothing great. The free wifi was turned off at night.

Nice view. Quiet. Secure parking, but wouldn't stay there again.

When touring our guests we have stayed here in past years and always found this to be excellent - particularly for the great food on site and the peaceful mountainside surroundings.  This year, not so much.  The assets are that it's clean, safe, surrounded with beautiful gardens that bring interesting bird life and the staff are friendly although strictly Spanish speaking.  There were a few teenage kids hanging around and they speak English so they were able to help us. Being winter locals we understand that the Costa Rican way of life means sometimes having no water, no hot water, no A/C, often no soap or paper products available in washrooms, slow wifi, and no flushing toilet paper etc.  That's okay.  We didn't mind the sparse room but the fact that there was a very strong odour of sewer coming from the drains in both our bathroom as well as our friends bathroom was hard to overcome. Otherwise the hotel was fine for cleanliness and accommodation in spite of the slightly high price compared to a brand new hotel in town offering brand new rooms and a pool. 
Our disappointment was with the restaurant and bar. We were the only people eating other than the managers sitting at another table with some on-duty police officers having their break.  That's fine. The sweet male server we had didn't understand a lick of English but we are in his country and should be better at Spanish so we pointed to the menu items we wanted and didn't ask for any alterations to our order.  The food was okay and portions were generous but our cocktails contained absolutely no alcohol - which was fine - but we were charged for the higher price and couldn't seem to make our pleasant host understand he served us straight juice.  Oh well.  The wifi was shut off at a certain point in the night and that caused some major grief for one person in our party but otherwise our stay was okay.  It's such a beautiful spot and it's sad to see the decline.  We haven't decided if we will take our next guests back here or try the newer, more affordable place in town which is closer to restaurants and amenities.  If you're looking for a place and want clean, safe & peaceful then this is great - just dine with an open mind and bring patience.  

Some Great Qualities

Several issues during our stay here...
Room has a bed too short for anyone of normal height, no hooks anywhere in the room to hang things up on, no bedside lights and only switch for light is by main door. In all so basic and penny pinching!
View is okay and gardens do have some bird life.
Food was very poor as well, several dishes from our group returned as they were burnt, how do you burn fish! We were the only guests so hardly busy either. Breakfast was no better and very poor quality of food on offer. 
The other weird thing was a small child was put in front of our group to sing a song, highly embarrassing as it was clearly a ruse to get a tip. 
Definitely one of the worst places we stayed in Cost Rica.

Awful!

The place is cozy, with a beautiful view and away from the city, between mountains and fresh air, I would refer to the restaurant, the exquisite drinks, but it has few menus and the preparation of simple meals that do not taste enough to the taste of those who are accustomed to taste good food.

I will mention the Restaurant.

Hotel stimulating for all senses; eyes: landscape, vegetation, park, animals. Taste; its flavours, food, ears for the cries of birds, monkeys, music and language. The Toucher for its trees including the Indian tree, the fire tree, its leaves that were used by the natives to make up; like henna. The smell of its food. its spices, its essences, its oils. This hotel is located on the side of a mountain in a coffee plantation, the ultimate.

The hotel is convenient to move around in the area or if you're just passing by.The rooms are simple and clean.In my opinion it's definitely over a star.The restaurant has a nice view although the dishes don't deserve their price.Good breakfast.

Hotel for the Passage

We had a room on the ground floor with shower and toilet, a nice little garden in front of us. Beautiful view of the Irazu. The room was simple, only small storage, no hooks. Sleep quality was good, the night was very quiet. The village is nearby. For breakfast we were provided with sausage, eggs, cheese and fruit. I didn't like the homemade cheese. The pizza in the restaurant was not good either.

Peaceful sleep, simple room

In addition to the cabins this time visited the restaurant. Good food, good atmosphere, very cozy and at an excellent price... the climate is cold every day and every hour. The atmosphere outside is foggy, foggy almost always and blows a cold wind so you should go well sheltered... inside the restaurant is warmer so it would be advisable to look for the most covered tables if you are one of those who don't like the fresh air.
