The experience was not good. My room was dirty! Wifi barely worked some days. The floor hadn't been swept and the bed had tons of dust and litter around it. The location is across from the bus station, which was nice. That was the only positive. Be prepared to spend about $2 each ride to and from the Old Town if you're staying here. When I arrived, the owner told me I needed to pay with Euros, which was inconvenient for me since I had already taken out local currency to pay her. I agree with the other bad reviews.

Unclean room, good location and price

The house is opposite the bus terminal, and it only takes 10 minutes and costs 12 Kuna by bus to the old town, and 7 minutes by walk to the ferry port. I think its location is the only advantage.

The room is fine actually. The owner gave us a twin-bed room with 2 chairs, a small table, and A/C. It's clean and the A/C is workable. Bathroom is shared with acceptable cleanliness level.

However, the owner didn't care our needs after received room fee.
1. We didn't notice in the beginning that there is no electronic plug other than for A/C. When we asked her, she insisted there are plugs in the room, and after we showed her there is only one and it's for the A/C, she just asked us to unplug A/C cable instead of trying to provide an extended line.
2. It was raining and we got wet at the night when returned from Mt. Srđ, and we tried to get rid of mud for pants. Before washing, we asked if she had a rack, and she prohibited strictly. It's understandable some owners don't accept it to avoid messy in the bathroom, but she was like~ there are house rules in the room, didn't you see it?! and it just a very old A4 paper and listing rules which the words are too small to read it. She even counted our shower time and visited our room to check if we did wash it or not which we didn't.
3. we tried to use the kettle, but it's too dirty to use. I knocked her door to get some hot water just after 30 minutes she visited our room, and she said "we are trying to get some sleep". How come she visited our room that late was ok, but we couldn't do it the same way?

Not very recommend as owner's attitude

One of the affordable places in Dubrovnik, around 3km from the old city and directly opposite the central bus station. If you are on a budget you can visit the guesthouse. Although the lady tries to keep the place clean, the condition of the property is a bit deteriorated. Bathroom smells quickly. Walls are thin and surroundings are noisy. No kitchen facilities. Not a pleasant stay.

Very convenient location any great value. Owner is very helpful, room were quiet and clean, few great restaurants and shopping center just nearby. Guesthouse is just across the sreat from bus station and valkable distance with beautiful views towards city center

Really nice place. Just 20 meters(1 minut walking) from the city main bus station. Lovely owner Sanja loves people and will help you in anything you need, You must walk 25 min to the old city, But much better stay away from the crowdy old town. Everything is cheaper. Bedroom great! One with kitchen and fridge, other with tv. I was really lucky to find this place. Clean and lovely. I wont forget the owner. Oh! And wifi is perfect.

Excellent place for excellent city

We spent a week at Guesthouse Gara and had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Our host was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room and all the facilities were always very clean. We were treated to biscuits, coffees, fruit, juice and even some wine- all complimentary. The guesthouse is in a great location, close to the ferry port, bus terminal and a large cheap supermarket. Local buses run from across the road, but if you don't mind walking you can reach all the main sites on foot. Thank you for your very kind hospitality. We highly recommend this property and would certainly stay again.
