We arrived later than expected and severely jet-lagged but the proprietor made us feel right at home. He brought out a city map and helped us orient ourselves (which the bus trip from the airport did not). He pointed out a number of sites to visit and even recommended a nearby restaurant where a good dinner could be had (and it was very good). We overslept the next morning, but a helpful knock on our door got us to breakfast. 
The room was comfortable and larger than we expected. The electronic blinds worked superbly - one of the reasons we overslept was how dark they made the room even with bright morning sun. We were one flight up overlooking the garden, a lovely view. We even walked in the garden with our host as my wife is an avid gardener and he was more than willing to chat. We learned that the sequoia was damaged and would need to come down. We hope is might have been saved after we left.
We walked everywhere in Bordeaux and we found most locations we visited to be reasonable distances. There is a tram line a few blocks away that takes you by or near a number of places if you prefer. The train station is about a mile away, so if I flew into Bordeaux and stayed here again I would take the airport shuttle to the train station and walk from there. The bus from the airport is slow and crowded.

Comfortable, quiet, with helpful proprietors

We also enjoyed the beautiful garden and enjoyed an aperitif. The owner is charming and caring and will be able to give you good advice on how to enjoy his town. We recommend it, especially to those who like character houses and appreciate the more authentic welcome of their owner compared to the welcome you can get when you go to a hotel.

Very nice room and excellent reception

The guests are charming and discreet, it's a nice private hotel with large rooms and a garden in the courtyard, breakfast is cozy and homey, just a little bemoal, a little rustic shower...

Nice private hotel in the heart of Bordeaux

we are a very simple travellers, This is the 2nd time stay in Bordeaux, we like a lot this ancient Bordeaux house, it looks renovated compare to several years ago. our double room in the 1st floor keep a lot of ancient features, and comfortable. Outside the windows, its the big sequoia tree and flowers garden.  very peaceful and beautiful place. During 3 days in Bordeaux, we visited downtown, also visited Saint emilion (train from Bordeaux 40 mins). the owner is very knowledgeable, he gave us a lot of information of Bordeaux and surroundings.  Happy and relaxing trip 3 days in bordeaux.


We like this ancient house

We arrived early evening and were welcomed by the proprietor, a quiet but seemingly affable man, who gave us a map which he highlighted with places of interest, and recommended a restaurant for that evening. 

He accompanied us to the secure parking that he had arranged about 400m away, and then showed us to the room and advised us that breakfast would be served in the cellar between 8am and 9am, and would be a "surprise". As there was a slight dank "cellar" smell in the hotel we had Sweeney Todd/Adams Family fantasies.

Our room was enormous, as was the bathroom, (one of the benefits of a 200 year old townhouse). I am really unsure of "antique" furniture within a hotel/B&B context, as I felt that some items were just second hand from the flea market - the handles on the bathroom door were different on each side, and there were easy chairs that certainly did not predate the 1960's. 

The air conditioning and wi-fi worked, the tv didn't, bed linens and towels were "greyish" not crisp white. It was all a bit DIY (Heath Robinson for those old enough). 

Upon waking in the morning (phew!) we were escorted to the basement which was nicely painted and didn't actually have that typical "cellar aroma". It was furnished with 4 sets of teak garden table and chairs, and portion controlled breakfasts, as well as piped classical music, (particularly funereal on Monday). As promised, the music turned off at 9am promptly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Bordeaux, undertaking our own self-guided tour on Sunday, visiting the fabulous Cite du Vin museum on the Whit Monday (a one-way trip on the tram as our return journey was aborted due to an "incident" further up the line).

On Tuesday morning (departure day) portion control of breakfast evaporated and the quality of croissant improved immensely (fresh from the baker that morning?).

Bordeaux seemed fairly quiet the whole weekend. I'm not sure if that was because of an evacuation of the more affluent to Arcachon, as it was the Whitsun weekend (a week before the UK's), or because the tram system removes a large proportion of private vehicles from the centre.

My wife and I are fairly open and ebullient characters, the proprietors of Villa Sequoia are quieter, more librarian than host, but we did find that we had warmed to them by the end of the weekend. 

Rather than writing an instant review, I have reflected for a while. Bordeaux is an expensive city to stay in, and in that context, 3 nights B&B for 395 euros is not outrageous, however we did feel that there was some unnecessary penny-pinching. 

In the spirit of being constructive rather than simply critical, I feel that if the proprietors were to invest a comparatively small amount they could probably upgrade to "Boutique hotel" standard and charge accordingly. 

Ideally I would give 3.5 out of 5 as a rating.

An eccentric weekend

quiet and peaceful place, walking distance to city center, also Tram B nearby, it is easy to go everywhere. delicious breakfast.  high ceiling room with beautiful decoration.  Thanks for the owners' information for explore Bordeaux.

Very beautiful garden for relaxing

We spent 4 nights in this lovely house and really enjoyed it, The location is good, The hosts were very helpful and friendly - fantastic garden. . Good breakfast served in a most unusual and interesting room  Highly Recommended

Beautiful Room in a Beautiful House

This was the single best and most relaxing stay I have ever experienced! The house/garden are so beautiful and peaceful, you'll  never want to leave. The owners are wonderful and practically become friends by the end of the stay. You need to stay here! 

Worth every penny 

We've been very well received in this beautiful house, and the breakfast room alone is worth a visit The rooms on the ground floor overlook a lovely garden in the middle of the city
