Second time staying here on a motorbike ride.  It’s a curious place. It starts as a very traditional bar tabac and then extends backwards into huge dining rooms.  Very friendly and helpful staff with no problem having two hot and dusty bikers and all the clobber.  The food is proudly traditional.  I don’t think the menu had changed since last time but We wanted to eat the same sort of food anyway.  Snails, duck gizzards, Tete de veaux, etc. Breakfast simple and served at the table but excellent bread and a whole wedge of good interesting cheese.  Lots of locals coming and going for beer and cigarettes made for fun people watching on the terrace with a beer.  Rooms very simple and old fashioned but quiet.  The drains in one stairwell smelt a bit but I’d return again. All part of the rural charm!

Modest but fun

We knew the restaurant (where we eat very well!) but not the hotel. It is old but the rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a private parking lot. Breakfast is plenty (wine shops, fresh bread, jam, butter, cheese, orange juice, hot drinks).

Welcome quite right even if the room reserved for double bed was not available so 3 beds in a small room. Besides, the night when I arrived I wondered why 3 beds in this room, today I understand after taking a little walk around the room I see under the middle bed that there are several pieces of carpet missing! 80s/70s room very old... simple wooden window glass very hard to open a little fresh kick not bad with a stroke of painting. The restaurant room very old holes in the ceiling! The meal in the hotel is this is the only positive point of this nightmare night....

One night at the hotel

From the beginning to the end everything was top The welcome was a bit cold at the beginning... the clean room the impeccable literature the absolute silence the traditional meal the addition not excessive. And nice breakfast I really recommend it nice boss and boss with controls as in the old days 😍😍😍

We read the reviews , and booked based on those we read , it basically turned out to be a paper shop with a bar , we asked initially if we could have a pre dinner drink and they said no ! 
Having then waited for a table we asked again for gin and tonics to be told they don’t have gin .
One peep into the room that was supposed to be the restaurant had 3 people glued to a tv and they all looked like a scene out of the walking dead !
Give this place a wide berth !
We got up and walked out after ten minutes of being stared at as if we had two heads ! 

Supper 

Stayed for three nights and loved it. The food was excellent, the accommodation although tired was clean and comfortable. The location was very central for touring the Champagne, and the village itself delightful, the walk to the church is recommended. The owners and staff made us feel very welcome and they coped admirably with 23 of us for breakfast and dinner (we were a car club on tour) and the secure open air parking to the rear of the hotel was ideal.

Excellent food, charming ambience, very much "old France"

It's quite hard to pick a rating for this hotel, as there are some aspects of it that are wonderful and others that are terrible.

Let's start with the terrible bits. The standard of accommodation is really very poor. Our bedroom was small, uncomfortable, and shabby. The bathroom mostly looked like it hadn't been renovated since the 1970s, though thankfully the shower cubicle was a bit more modern that the rest of the bathroom. Not exactly new, but certainly put in no later than the 1990s. The towel rail fell of the wall while we were there.

In fact the hotel mostly looked like it hadn't been renovated since the 1970s. It had a very strange configuration. At the front, it looked like a small bar, but as I think at least one other reviewer has mentioned, it's a bit like the Tardis. If you go through the bar, you get through to the rest of the hotel, including a dining room the size of an aircraft hangar.

I have no idea why the dining room is so huge. It looks like it would easily seat 200+ guests, and given that there are only 20-odd rooms in the hotel, it's never going to be full from the hotel guests. Maybe they do a lot of wedding receptions or something.

The food was actually very good. I had one bad course on our first night there (a ribeye steak that was unpleasantly gristly), but we ate in the hotel for 3 nights, and that was the only course I had that was anything less than lovely, so I guess I was just unlucky with the steak. We were with a group of several friends, and no-one else seemed unhappy with any of the food.

As well as good food, there was a good selection of Champagnes on the wine list. Service was good too. Not the fastest, but we weren't in any hurry so that really wasn't a problem for us.

Breakfast was less good. A rather poor selection with croissant, jam, and not much else. A bit of frozen (and not completely defrosted) tinned fruit if you were lucky, but they didn't extend to that every morning we were there.

There was free wifi in the bar area, but it didn't extend to the bedrooms.

The hotel had free parking, but didn't have the largest car park in the whole world ever. If you get there when it's busy you might find you don't get a place.

That said, it's a good location for visiting some of the Champagne houses of the region, particularly if you prefer to visit the smaller family-run places out in the villages instead of the more industrial producers in places like Epernay or Reims (and I very much prefer the smaller places: not only are they much cheaper than the larger houses and usually better quality as well, but you get to chat to the owners, who are usually very passionate about what they do). 

Anyway, if you are looking for a smart, modern, and comfortable hotel, then do not stay here. If you don't mind a bit of quirkiness as long as the food is OK, then it's worth considering.

What a strange place

Typical Logis de France hotel. Room was basic but bed was comfortable and everything was clean. No lift and quite steep stairs . Good welcome, spacious car park.
Food was very good at dinner and breakfast was basic choice but fresh coffee was excellent. It is rare these days not to have machine coffee so it was a big plus.
Would definitely stay again

Basic rooms, great food

We decided on a meal before leaving the village and we are glad we did. The meal was excellent and the service on a par. I doubt if you could find anything to match the quality and service at this price in the UK. We will definitely be back.

Excellent meal and excellent service

We stop at this restaurant every time we pass through the area, and we eat pretty well for 30 to 35 euros with wine, and it's not listed as a restaurant on Tripadvisor, which is unfortunate, and I hope my opinion will allow us to do that.
