This resort is at Kappil on the banks of an estuary. No direct access to the beach and no beach view. View of backwaters only.   It has only 4 independent cottages and a group cottage. The resort is too small and no other luxuries of a resort. Has a restaurant, food items priced so cheap. There is hot water for bathing. Toiletries and  towel was not provided. Roaming around kappil beach and backwaters is a nice experience. The staff at hotel are cordial. Nothing great here.

Cheap and average accommodation

We stayed in Kappil, Varkala. For lunch we couldn't find any good place and this place looked amazing from outside so we went to this place for lunch.

There were no much options for lunch (only egg and veg fried rice). So, we ordered egg fried rice. They took more than one hour to serve four plates of fried rice although no other guests were there in hotel and we were the only group. After making us to wait for 1 hour they served us half cooked rice and I found insect in it. When we showed it to them they argued saying it was egg piece with pepper! Seriously???

We couldn't eat that rice so we ordered lime juice and as usual they took 30 mins to serve it. As expected even lime juice was worst, it looked like adulterated water mixed with salt and tasted very bad.

I would give 0 stars for this place for the worst lunch but there is no option for it. I would say 1 star is for the lake and beach view from this place (which was good).

Terrible Lunch in Serene Lake Resort

Had a very bad experience at this place, the moment we reached here there was no current due to short-circuit the person told us it would be ready by an hour so we went to the near by beach for sunset by the time we came it was in same condition the ladies with us were frustrated. The owner of resort shifted us to next resort for the night which was very good and we were back here again next morning. very average rooms filled with lizards n other insects (i will prefer a tent stay than this)  
Food is pathetic, owner gave us a complementary dinner the 2nd ngt but not worth the place. breakfast is complementary but only dosa and sambar not even a bread jam is available. overall a very bad experience, i don't recommend this place....

- Very normal hotel level , A suitable for those looking for sleep place .
- The room inside is very ordinary and very simple furniture .
- The hotel has a simple restaurant .
- The level of hygiene is not satisfactory as I feel .

Economic level for housing

It was indeed a truly remarkable experience spending a weekend at Serene Lake Resort, Kappil near to Varkala. As there are just 4 cottages (2 AC and 2 non-AC), this place is very calm and quiet making it an incredible place for a weekend getaway with family. Amazing lake view and super delicious restaurant force us to visit this place quite often. Chef is ready to make mouth-watering sea food dishes according to our order (need to inform them in advance). The owner Mr. Shafraz was always seen active too helpful in ensuring our stay a remarkable one. Definitely a must visit place for everyone

Amazing weekend getaway

This stay was exceptionnal. Their are only 4 cabins so it's very quiet. The chef makes truelly delicious local food, fresh and spicy!
The owner  (safraz) is a wonderful man. ANYTHING you ask for: he will provide!! 
We wanted a car to go to Mumbay so we are borrowing his friend's car! He also found local fishermen to take us fishing with them!!
All in all, a wonderful experience.. Don't stay anywhere else!

Amazing! 

When I needed to get away from busy routine for a couple of days to recharge myself, I came across thia resort. The description was tempting enough as the peace offered was a welcome change I was looking for. I visited along with my son and enjoyed the stay to the maximum extent possible. 
PROS..
True to the name.. it is peaceful with wonderful scenery around.
Hasselfree booking that does not require any advance
Can have the best food and hot tea at the restaurant facing the lake
An excellent cook who impressed both with his cooking skills and hospitality skills
Very safe place with other beautiful places to visit in case you want to step out... like Kappil beach.. varkala.. sivagiri mutt and janardhan swamy temple
Above all.. the owner who is a very diwn to earth person who is bent on serving his guests and ensure they  200% satisfied

CONS
Minor things like boat ride bicycle ride etc offered in website but would be ready in another couple of months. But as I was not keen on stepping out..these did not matter
Wifi a bit slow at times... but only at the restaurant

I gave this place a 5-star fot making our stay comfortable and unforgetabble. Will definitely recommend people visiting Varkala not to miss this hidden GEM
