This is the 2nd worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I'm 61!
I wouldn't bother to write this review at all if booking.com hadn't advertised the property as having working air conditioning, but two nights without sleep tends to ruin a holiday. 
I will, however, start with the positives. The location of Ca del Dose is excellent - halfway between Arsonale and St Mark's Square could not be better, even though it is in dingy side street, up 5 flights of stairs, overlooking lots of other rundown properties, all with the faded shutters closed. The price was also very reasonable, comparative to accommodation costs in the UK. 
The negatives, however, outweigh the positives.  The noisy, rattling and dirty air con unit in the small room failed to get the temperature inside below 27C, even though the outside temperature never exceeded 30C, (and we tried every setting available on the unit.) Perhaps you can sleep in that, but we couldn't. The advertised fridge would be best described as a chiller unit, as the drinks we kept in it never felt much cooler than the room.  One handle was missing from the mdf wardrobe, (if you can call it that), making it very difficult to open and breaking my wife's nails. The toilet was brown below the water line - why couldn't they use limescale remover?  The sealant in the shower unit was also mouldy, and it should have been changed years ago. The fixings for the shower head were so loose that we could only shower by holding the shower head in one hand and trying to wash with the other. 
This list is not exhaustive, as this poor standard of maintenance makes cleaning to a reasonable standard almost impossible and, to be be fair, we only complained to the hotelier about the air conditioning unit.  She berated us for leaving the unit on when we went out, and pointed to the target temperature saying "see, it is 16C in here, this is cold!" What could we say in the light of such ignorance?  I just showed her my own thermometer and explained that we could not sleep in such conditions. 
I just hope that booking.com take this property off their listing as the facilities that Ca del Dose advertise have clearly not been maintained and are no longer functioning. 
To end on a good note, we are now in Lake Garda in excellent accommodation and a positive review will follow.

The 2nd Worst Hotel in Europe

After looking at some pictures on Ca del Dose web site, we made reservations for 3 nights, via Booking.com. We requested that we would like a Double or Twin Room on an upper-storey floor and we were informed from Booking.com via email that the accommodation has confirmed they will be able to arrange this for us at no extra charge for this request.
We arrived at the hotel earlier than we thought, and there was no one at the hotel to meet us, as the door was locked, so after a phone call via What’s App to a member of the hotel staff, we were shown to our room which was not in the hotel and later described as depandance nearby the hotel. An old building that looked nice from the outside, but not so nice on the inside.
The room given us upon arrival was fusty, stark, dirty with a broken shutter in the bedroom that we had to hang some of clothes to prevent people looking in on us from a back alley. We did not feel safe, comfortable and secure.
The bathroom area that comprised of a toilet, bidet, hand-basin and shower unit, was very small, the shower unit was not ideal, too small and the shower curtain was dirty and did not prevent water escaping out onto the bathroom floor, there was nowhere to place soap, shampoo and no hooks to even hang a towel to dry, so we had to use on of the dining chair in the lounge area. 
When you entered the room No 3533 you are greeted with a step that is 12” high, so you need your wits about you when entering and leaving the room.
There was no coffee and tea making facilities, not even a kettle.
As we were on our honeymoon, we did stay the 3days, but we did stay out late and only returned to sleep. Although Venice is beautiful, in which we will return, but not to this establishment, who seem just interested in taking the money and not investing into the comfort of their paying guests.



Ca del Dose. An unfortunate choice of accommodation that we chose via Booking.com.

I've been with my girlfriend for two nights, I find it's located in a really quiet location and really very close to St. Mark's Square (three minutes walk). It's definitely not a 5-star hotel, even the furnishings are really simple and vintage, but I find it irrelevant because the structure is still cozy and the staff is really friendly and available. I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap hotel but still located near St. Mark's Square 👍

It's a great position.

This is a great hotel in a really good location,on a quiet road and close to lots of cafes, trattorias and bars. It’s short walking distance to the Basilica and the Doges Palace. Easy to get to from the airport also, as Lorenzo had very kindly  messaged the exact way to get there,which was incredibly helpful. There are no lifts, but there are only three floors so not really a problem. Our room had a good sized balcony which was lovely to go onto in the morning .The owners  were very good about us checking in late also,our flight didn’t come in until after the latest check in time , but Elena waited for us. They also provided us with a front door key after we’d checked out so we were able to leave our luggage there until closer to our flight time. It is not a 24 hr manned reception but you have a front door key so you come and go as you please. There was no kettle in the room but on request Lorenzo provided one. I’ve already booked my next stay here. 

Great location.

It's a little under-appreciated but strategically located a few minutes from St. Mark's Square and the ferries.

Not well cared for

Helena, our hostess, wrote us and waited on the street, almost at the port to tell us how to get there, all the time was waiting since we arrived at Marco Polo Airport and took the Vaporeto. It is better to arrive by vaporeto since it is very close (at 300 meters) to the Plaza de San Marcos, IDEAL!, Venice is for walking. The hotel in one of the allelicitas of Venice, to relax, independent bathroom in the room and how are the costs in Venice, but perfect. Clean, you give your keys to get in and out, E insist, Helena, very good hostess, does not speak Spanish but speaks English.

Excellent location, small, but clean.

2 comfortable nights. Well placed on a street perpendicular to the docks and 5 minutes from St. Mark's. Quite quiet for the city and on the second floor of a well-maintained but a little old building. It's a bit of the charm of Venetian buildings. Clean and everyday rooms. A constant access key. Nice staff. The shower is limited. Overall it's a good experience.

Nice and quiet.

We spent three days in this beautiful building a few steps from St. Mark's Square. What to say... we had a room that was pretty much an apartment) and the courtesy of the excellent staff, a really affordable price! I also wanted to tell you something that pleasantly surprised me; I thought I had lost my wallet around the city but it actually ended up behind the back of the bed, after a few weeks I was contacted by the owner, Mr. Lorenzo, who promptly sent it home with all the money inside and the documents without even taking the expenses of the shipment...without words! Chapeau!!! Congratulations really! I will be back.

Top of the world!

Very friendly staff! Everything worked well, very clean, we appriciated everyday cleaning. Nothing special, not the best bed ever but not the worst either. Very good location regarding everything in venice. Surrounding streets were quiet in the night and nothing distrupted our nights. 

Hairdryer was included but no water kettle, ability to make own coffee in the morning would have been a nice plus. 4 stars because of superb price and friendly staff

Quiet and decent

This is the fourth time we've been to the hotel this year, and this time we've had rooms in the dependency, and we've been very satisfied, and the rooms are large, clean and equipped with everything you need.
