After our hotel we had booked through booking.com sold our room, we had to look for another hotel on a very busy week in Puerto Vallarta. We found Hotel Bernal couple blocks down.

I would stay here again but not in the summer months. 

Last minute

It's a comfortable hotel because of its location, a very affordable price, we arrived at this hotel at dawn and were treated very kindly. It's a simple but hygienic place. The room fits our needs, it's somewhat noisy but good for resting and getting out.

A central and economical hotel.

We planned a last minute trip and located that hotel. It is a very quiet place, a little austere but fulfilling its purpose. The place is relatively close to the malecon and is quite cheap. The people who serve the place are very friendly, in fact even told us how to book in their hotel and get up cheaper. The door closes at 2 am But they have a veiler. The only problem is that they do not have parking.

A quick visit

This hotel is simply not very luxurious, but the employees have always been very kind to me and looked after me very carefully..... the bathrooms are small, the wardrobe is also.............. about the location is very accessible to bars and restaurants. the upper windows do not have curtains so if you struggle a little for the morning light, the hotel is 3 stories, I am in the very noisy 1st for the mornings and I recommend that you order a 2nd or 3rd room.

The Bernal meets all the criteria for a classic budget hotel:  cheap, clean, quiet, safe, well located, and with friendly staff.  Located in the heart of old PV, it's about seven blocks from the beach and one block south of the Cuale River.  All kinds of services fill the neighbourhood, including many other budget hotels and buses to everywhere.  

Here are a few points to remember:

The sink only has cold water.  The shower has both hot and cold water. The shower isn't contained, so water tracks all over the room.

There's an armoire unit of a sort, but not one hanger. 

You can't seal out the outside air, and the winter evenings can get cool.  Ask for extra blankets.

You also can't effectively seal out the light from the courtyard.  If you need complete darkness to sleep, you're out of luck.

I loved the place.  I would definitely return.  In January 2014, I paid MX $360 including taxes.
