We have just had a wonderful week in this beautiful hotel - it really is an amazing tranquil spot away from the main town and medina - but only a short taxi trip away. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive - the food, delicious. Breakfast was a feast of wonderful fresh fruit, yoghurt, freshly baked bread, jams and honey. And if you wanted anything else - that wasn't a problem either. When we chose to eat in, we were cooked up a feast of Moroccan Fayre - in fact we were generally asked what we would like to eat - and when it came, we were not let down - it was all delicious!
If you are looking for a modern, glitzy hotel this is not your place. The rooms are simple, yet comfortable, the pool area lovely with masses of space. The pool was sparkling blue ( after we arrived to a bit of a murky pool, it was sorted immediately) - the water not heated but refreshing when hot. A beautifully decorated cafe just by the pool - fabulous moroccan tiled floor.
There was lots to do from the hotel and the staff organised anything we wanted booking. 

Couldn't recommend more for a chilled vibe and a great way to experience our first trip to this beautiful country.

Charming Moroccan Hotel perfect for complete rest and relax.

OK - I'll try and lay this out objectively ...

1. Beware! What you read on the website is not true!
2. I made a non-refundable booking (advantageous for Tangaro surely) only to be told on arrival that I had to pay for breakfast because I had booked non-refundable. On the website, it says that breakfast is included. I should have refused to pay, but I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my children. Another guest I spoke to did very wisely refuse to pay. 
3. There is no free shuttle as it says on the website - luckily for us we had hired a car so this wasn't a concern for us.
4. The pool is cloudy and green in a lot of places.
5. There is no management to be seen anywhere so when you try to discuss something that really requires that level of skill, no chance!
6. Generally, the place is pretty run down so don't go if you want a 'hip hotel'

On the plus side ...
1. The operational staff are good - special thanks to Amina for being lovely
2. Location is lovely if you want to be a bit outside of the town
3. Pool is a great length if you like to swim and we didn't mind the murkiness
4. The one dinner that we had there was tasty.6. Exactly the sort of place we would love.

I do hope what I believe are new owners pay some attention to this place. It needs some TLC. I hope to go back, as despite the downsides, it ticks a lot of boxes for us, but I'd go prepared and I hope this review enables you too as well.

Mixed feelings ...

I stayed here with my mother at the beginning of March. The breakfasts were delicious and traditional mint tea served throughout the day. The rooms were beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds, very relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the Median. We had a swim every morning in the large swimming pool and the staff were all very friendly. The walk into Essaouria is an hour along a dusty road, it is not possible to walk along the coastal road but very cheap to get a taxi.

Wonderful hotel in most beautiful setting!

The Tangaro Hotel is an oasis of well-being and expectations are not disappointed. The large area belonging to the hotel is very well maintained and stylish. The owner was extremely hospitable and was always available with advice and action. Unfortunately, during our stay there was a renovation going on that the spa was renovated, as well as the pool. As compensation, the hotel made free velos available to all guests, a very nice gesture. In February it was rather cool and the rooms have heating, but there are no electric heaters that can only be requested at the reception. The breakfast is served in the large hall and served every morning alternately. The beach or the car would be great to experience again after arriving at Essaouira.

With a lot of love since 1915

We spent a wonderful week in November Tangaro here. It was so relaxing, I can only recommend this to all who seek a piecful place away from partly stressful parts of Morocco. The boutique-like hotel is really nicely designed, without being pretentious. It was payed a lot of attention to all small details everywhere: from the nice garden, the small paths, the laterns and the pavilion coffee house. All furniture is really pretty, as well the interior of the rooms, the beds and the bath. I was confused by previous reviews about Tangaro being dated or run down, this is absolutely not true and this was the most charming part of this place, it felt more nostalgic in the best possible way I guess. 
(If you are expecting some kinda luxury resort nonsense, maybe this is not the right place for you. There is a new sofitel chain hotel right next to Tangaro)
It was a bit cold in November to swim, but it was so nice to stay at the pool area. There is also a cozy library room and a big dining room with a fire place. We took our breakfast (we loved!) Outside at the terrace. The staff is more than welcoming and friendly, really all of them, we couldn't be more thankful. Also you can order a dinner if you wanna dine there, which we did a few times, food was really well done + good wine! The other time we just went out to the Medina Essaouria. It's a 40min walk or you can take a cab any time for 50 dhm, it was all very easy (as we don't drive). Highly recommended!

The greatest hotel in Essaouria

Faded glory. But in a good way. The swimming pool could use a fix. But besides that, a place you can feel at home!
Helpfull staf. Nice breakfast.........
Serving a drink is not fast, but once there..... you wont mind.
You need a car to get to Essaouira. 


Since 1915

I visited with my 2 daughters, one is living locally and we wanted somewhere unpretentious to hang out and relax. Tangaro was perfect. Quiet and calm amongst beautiful natural vegetation but only 10mins drive into buzzing Essouria. The rooms are tastefully authentic and the breakfast outside was perfect. We had dinner on our last night there, this had to be pre-ordered and we were the only ones eating in the beautiful garden room but it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The spa treatment was wonderful and the bike ride along the coast was very special. The staff are lovely too. We will definitely return.

Perfect sanctuary

We spent 3 nights in this sweet hotel a few kilometres from the main town of Essaouira and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The staff are all very friendly and nice, the rooms are perfectly adequate and clean.  I would definitely recommend it if you want to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of the medina - it is very cheap and easy to get into town by local taxi.  Very nice breakfast, however in the evening there is only one menu, with a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts - as a vegetarian, I would have liked to have seen more choice of food, but this is my only complaint.  Go to this hotel to chill out and enjoy the peace and quiet, you won't regret it.

Lovely peaceful hotel

We visited Essaouira for my friend’s birthday and celebrated the special night with a beautiful dinner at Tangaro. I had been to the hotel many years ago as a child and I knew I didn’t want to come to Essaouira without checking it out. Younes was so helpful in getting our reservation set up and we even got a fantastic birthday song at the end of the night in the candlelit dining room. Dinner was delicious, the service perfect and the location idyllic - will definitely be back to stay!

Most stunning evening

It's really worth it, the rooms are clean, the breakfast is super loving and the staff is just really nice. The layout is very inviting to relax. It's a home run and that's exactly what you notice with all the positive features.
