We were lost and were lucky to flag down a local, Margarita, who told us about it. Our server spoke enough English to explain what dishes were typical and locally raised The food was delicious including the desserts. The price was reasonable 

Just what you’re looking for 

First of all, we fell in love with the village and the accommodation in such a way that we stayed for 3 nights instead of the first one booked.

The facilities are perfect, humbly but tastefully decorated, crystal clean and spacious; the hosts are from the "Preto" family, spectacular people, really heartwarming, they make you feel at home; the breakfast is rich and full of homemade products, served in the restaurant annexed to the accommodation, speaking of which, serves divine food made from local ingredients (vegetables, cow meat, sausages made by and meat smoked by the "Pretos", in-house!).

And the surroundings... the Gerês National Park is of a rare beauty, the granite mountainsides, the lush greens, even when it's rainy and foggy it's magical... the village is also beautiful, with most of the buildings respecting the local past architecture, giving it a enchanted medieval look, with a bakery (oh, the bread...) and a Celtic tavern completing the picture.

Exceptional

Two years ago we landed here by chance and now we're back here again. Don't let the many tables scare you away. On the weekends it's full. The food is very plentiful and made with our own ingredients. Especially the veal is great. But bring hunger, there's plenty to eat. The service is super effortful and there's even a map in English (really only one 😀). We stay in the RV in the parking lot next door.

If you eat in the neighborhood and bring hunger

I could not have had a warmer welcome, nor a better place to stay in beautiful northern Portugal. Joaquim and Tina, the owners, greeted me, and I immediately felt at home. The room was comfortable and clean, and the dining facilities are top notch. Joaquim and Tina are attentive and serve up excellent food. Tina made me a wonderful traditional pork and bean stew that was the best meal of my entire trip. Prior to arrival, I had an incident with my rental car that necessitated making several phone calls. My phone did not work, and Joaquim and Tina allowed me to use their phone for an extended time. I cannot thank them enough for their help and for making my stay so memorable overall. My only regret about Casa do Preto is that my stay was too short.

Welcoming place run by wonderful people

This was a simple, standard room but it was clean and comfortable.  The hotel is run by a very friendly mother and daughter.  We ate in the hotel restaurant and dinner (home made sausages) was very tasty.  We walked to the Monastery ruins and then down (and back up) about 230 steps to see the cascade, some of it obscured by trees but worth a visit.

Worth a stop-over

It's a great place to relax in the colorful village located in the Peneda Jeres National Park. We are mostly populated by a young man who speaks English well, who tells us in great detail what local dishes to choose for dinner, what Portuguese wine to choose for a snack. The traditional style of life in the village includes cheese, vegetables, and the beauty of civilization, which can be enjoyed here.

Here you can really find good traditional food for fair prices. Nice friendly service. The location has a typical Portuguese restaurant atmosphere clean and simple. A filet steak for 14€ a beer 1,50€. The chocolate cake as a dessert is a must.

Hotel Casa do Preto.
Located in the authentic village of Pitõs das Júnias.
It is built on the entrance of the village, you have a private parking for free, a restaurant and super clean rooms.
The rooms have good beds, private bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and bidet, and for the first evening you have soap, shampoo and shower gel. 
We can say that the sleep quality is more than ok, it is very quiet you do not hear nothing during the night.
Breakfast is included in the price of 50€ for 2 persons in a double room, and is served on the table, you have bread, cheese, fruit juice, jam, honey, coffee etc. all together a large breakfast.
We enjoyed our stay and the kindliness from the owners, and can warmly recommend this hotel.

Visit Pitões das Júnias region.

A pleasant village within the realms of Gerês mountain. Very peaceful ambient and the local population are very kind. Good food and excellent service. 
And the landscape boost any sad sensation. I´ll be back next year!!

One of the few restaurants with homemade food made with products of the people.El mejor cocido portugués.Pitoes is a charm and this restaurant stores its essence.On the other hand, be careful if you buy local products for tourists (cheese, honey, jam,...) because they are enjoyed there.
