We spent two nights at Mount Colmeal, and it was worth it, the room with the terrace overlooking the Alqueva and the Castle of Mourão is a more valuable experience, undoubtedly one to repeat not only for the facilities but especially for the sympathy.

The weekend

A very nice room, very spacious, clean and smelly. The existence of a refrigerator allowed us to put the water to cool on such an unusually warm day for the height. The pool area was very good with room to be comfortable. The whole staff was very friendly and always ready to help. Nothing to point out and we wanted to come back.

A great place to rest

Family with children, we stayed on the mountain for four days. The room was spacious and typically decorated. We still had a wonderful view of the whole mountain on top of the house. The breakfast was great, varied and with typical products. The mountain is close to the village, which has a lot to visit, to see, several restaurants. We enjoyed the swimming pool which although not very large was still large enough, it had hats and shovels. All the spaces are clean and cared for. A great place to rest and stop.

Peace and tranquility on Mt.

Well situated near Mourao, the house would have everything to be an elective space. The rooms are comfortable and the decoration is taken care of. However, almost everything else fails, the careless outdoor space, an uninvested breakfast, early and unannounced billing, the lack of training of the staff to respond to requests are negative aspects that lead to not thinking about returning.

It could be fantastic.

This guest house is located a few kilometres east of Mourao, and is a bit tricky to find (despite GPS) as you have to first drive into Mourao and then take a semi-paved road over the highway a few kilometres back. It took us a while to figure this out upon our arrival in the area.

Due to the reigning health regulations things were pretty regimented concerning breakfast times and how it was served, as well as the lounge chairs by the pool. Breakfast was not really good; the bread was of not particularly good quality, but at least you could order scrambled eggs. The little wine and gift shop was dark and unappealing.

We missed being able to communicate with the female staff in English, although the owner/manager was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a bit dark, although large. The pool was refreshing (read: not heated) and large enough to accommodate several guests at once. We simply were not overwhelmed by the premises and are sorry to say that we cannot recommend it.

Bicycles are available to rent for €3/day, however the manager admitted that the few bike paths nearby are not well-maintained, and the highway is in our opinion not well-suited for casual cycling.

Guest House in the Countryside

We stayed for 2 nights in the bedroom with a separate terrace and we had a very nice stay. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. The bed could be softer but that is also a matter of personal preference.
They have a small restaurant service in case you want to stay in the hotel in the evening. Also they have a wine shop and the wines are very nice.

Just a tip: the easiest way to get there is just driving to Mourão and then it will be easier to find it. Do not try any shortcuts, even with a 4x4.

A nice place to enjoy the nature (and wine)

An excellent surprise, peace and quiet. Super attentive staff, we feel at home. Rural tourism at its best!! Just a repair like the food that seems to be frozen and the pool that deserves some care.

- Relax, please.

Super nice hotel, 5-star staff, super quiet environment, ideal for drinking a good bottle of Alentejo red or white wine and eating a good cheesecake by the pool, have daily dishes to unwind... we'll definitely be back.

Peace and quiet

Recently stayed in early March 2020. Quiet, spacious, very clean with a good continental breakfast. A bit difficult to find in the dark at night, with few signs posted, but worth it. They have a large pool for summer cooling and a large property to wander. The area would be ideal for walking or cycling. A wonderful place to get away from it all. The nearby town has a castle but it is probably closed.  

Quiet, well appointed, very near Monsaraz

We spent a night in Monte do Colmeal and we really enjoyed the experience. If you're looking for a place close to a city with all the amenities, restaurants and shops, this is not the place for you to go. If, otherwise, you look for something different, quite, cozy as if you were visiting family in the country house, that's the place for you. The owner and staff of this boutique lodging are very kind and helpful, making sure you have a pleasant stay with them.
