There are only a couple of public bathrooms for all guests (about 30-40). Bathrooms like these, they don't have a separate locker room so as not to make others wait if you have to finish dressing, cutting hair, etc. These bathrooms are curtainless baths; generating a tremendous lake of water that filters and makes the buckets always dance and splash. The carpets of the stairs and staircases have not been cleaned since four o'clock, because they are filled with dust. The staff is distracted, cozy, does not perform their functions and excessively confident (we have to share a room with the employees of the 'François Genoiscaldi' hotel... and ask that as long as the hotel is in the same state as the rest of Europe, we will always have a maximum price of 4-5 euros per night.

On arrival we were welcomed by a nice lady, who told us she was the bartender and not the hostess as the “hostel” does not have a hostess. She took us to our room and showed us around the facilities. It is basically like a house with a few rooms to sleep in. 

Firstly the bathroom could have had a good clean. On inspection of our room we discovered bed bugs, and decided we couldn’t stay there any longer. We were given a 50% refund. 

This place would have been okay if it hadn’t been for all the bed bugs, which after reading other people’s comments seems they haven’t managed to sort out that urgent issue. 

It is very cheap and you do get what you paid for, but we did not pay for bed bugs!

Although we were impressed by the location, as it is inside a bar like the one that says. we slept well, very centrally, about everything and only 10€ each night. the shower is more or less good, and the treatment of the owners is great. if you're passing through Bucharest and want to sleep a night I recommend it.

If you're coming to Bucharest, do not stay here..!

On arriving it was the most difficult place to find. There are no signs to say what building it is in and quite frankly it looks like you're walking into someone's dodgy back yard. On arriving it took us forever to find someone to check in with. We tried every door possible, and found they we're all locked. Then found someone hiding in their hole in the ground which they call an office. The staff which we encountered really weren't very helpful either. We asked them for idea's of things to do around Bucharest, to which we got the answer 'oh i don't know, i haven't done anything round here'. Not helpful!

The actual "hostel" isn't the greatest either.  Firstly it didn't like a hostel, it was simply some spare rooms over a bar! (A bar which is noisy until 4am). So there's not much community with only a tiny common room. 

There is wallpaper coming off of the walls. The carpet doesn't look like it has been cleaned since it opened. The hostel claims to have a kitchen that you can use. This is a lie, as in fact it is a sink and some cutlery that you can use. There is nowhere to actually cook food and there isn't even a bottle opener. 

The room itself wasn't too bad. We had a private double bedroom which had a shower. Now don't expect to be able to shower quietly in the morning, the extractor fan is so noisy it can probably be heard downstairs. The mattress isn't the comfiest and don't expect to keep your silky smooth skin after sleeping on the sheet, as you will be ripped to shreds from how hard it is. The air conditioning was a bonus, however this couldn't be kept on at night due to the amount of noise it made. They are also very stingy with their pillows, we were only given one each so had to fold up clothes underneath to prevent from a cricked neck. 

The probably only bonus about this place is its location where it is really close to the bus route from the airport, tram stops and the train line. I personally would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. 

Not a "proper" hostel... read on!

The owner is a very cool guy and a pinball wizard. Good rooms in a good location for a good price and extremely helpful staff. Nice bathroom, although it gets a little noisy in the evening. Ask for one of the back rooms.

Great place!

I loved staying at this hostel. I came in from the airport to the bar/reception area and they were playing Billy Idol and the Cure at the bar and there was a bunch of young local people foosball on the free table. Right away I felt like I would fit in and I ended up staying a week. Theres always local people hanging out at the bar, I met tons of nice people there and yet even though the bar is open until 4am and they have rock and punk concerts in the basement on weekends you don't hear it in the rooms, so I was able to sleep very well when I wasn't in party mode. The facilities are simple but have all your basic needs covered including lockers and AC in the rooms, the price is one of the cheapest in Bucharest, the owner and staff are great and the location is amazing. Its right beside the metro and the old town and frankly staying in the old town means having to listen to super loud club music blaring from the street until 2am or later so you're better off at Wonderland.  Not the fanciest place in Bucharest but definitely the coolest!

Cool Hostel in a great location

When I arrived in Bucharest, where I had been a few years ago, we found ourselves in front of this hostel that looks like a hut from the outside (see photo). The girl who welcomed us even though she was quite kind could not get us to pay because she could not access the bar area because the lock was broken and the door was half broken. The patio presented itself as a pile of dirty stuff including Ikea tables half-dissolved from burns, seats with stained cushions and indefinite color and some garbage cans so we didn't miss anything. Inside the situation was even worse. I think the photos they posted are making the bar a few decades ago because it is not clear what happened to me that night.

The Host of Horrors

Comfy room that was nice and warm! Jacuzzi tub in the shared bathroom. Towels were provided for free also. Our highlight was Underworld Bar. Staff were incredible. Definately will be back here again in the future.

AMAZING

This lovely hostel is within walking distance of LIPSCANI, basically the Trastevere of Bucharest, as far as nightlife is concerned. But let's go in order, let's book a week online in this hostel, on our arrival, the owner, GABY, makes us go around the house right away, because anyway we're talking about a hostel with 2 private rooms and 2 dormitories.

Great experience

My boyfriend and I spent a couple of days in Bucharest, staying at what is registered here as the Wonderland Hostel even though it's actually called Underworld. The only advantage of the hostel is the central location adjacent to University Square, but the service leaves much to be desired. I was in the middle of winter and only once I could take a hot shower, the water was intermittent and alternated between the frozen, the lukewarm and rarely the hot.
