I like the common room and the kitchen. Good value per price. But the 6 ~ 8 bed dormitory has a defect bed, the guard was easily detached on the one of the three upper beds. I guess they have to fix it. 
But the others were overall good.

Facilities are comparatively new and good. Toilet inside of the room which is not good. I prefer toilet outside of the room. Also shower facility. Because if it is mixed dorm, showering can be uncomfortable. 
Very clean and new. And also videt system was installed on the toilet. Refrigerators were also new.

The breakfast was not bad. Especially the peanut butter was unique... the only place I've ever been which provide peanut butter in Korea. Because peanut butter is not usual thing in Korea.

홍대 주변엔 호스텔이 많이 모여있다. 여기는 평도 되게 좋아서... 가봤는데 역시 좋더라. 오래 머물기에는 살짝 부담이 있긴 하지만 시설이나 여러가지를 고려해 본다면 정말 좋은 곳이라고 할 수 있지...
6인실, 혼성 돔, 11.31 USD. 수수료 뺀 가격이고 포함할 경우, 12.44 USD이었다. 더 쌀 때도 있음.

여기서 딱 마음에 안들었 던게 바로 요 침대였는데, 프레임이 견고하지 않아서 막 흔들리고 소리도 많이 나는 편이었음. 특히 난간이 견고하게 고정되어 있지 않았고 침대 중 하나에서 제대로 고정안되어 거기를 디디다가 훅 떨어져서 침대에서 떨어질 뻔... 흑.. 나중에 제주도 가서 안 건데 이 프레임이 어떤 게스트 하우스에도 그대로 쓰이고 있더라...  
시설은 전반적으로 좋은 편이다. 아니 최신 시설이 갖춰져 있다고 해야겠지.. 대신에 침대 같은 시설이 좀 약한 편이고. 여기 주인 호스텔 같은 걸 제대로 잘 모르는 것 같다. 화장실이나 등등 다 좋은 편. 
여기 마음에 들었던 게 바로 커먼룸이다. 부엌도 좋긴 했지만 그것보다도 커먼룸이 정말 편안하게 되어 있더라. 
시설 깨끗하고 최신식이이고 심지어는 화장실에 비데도 설치되어 있고... 샤워시설, 냉장고 등 모두가 다 거의 새것이다. 가격이 다른 데 보다 조금 비쌀 수 밖에 없겠더라.

Really good value per price.

Place is handily located just 5 minutes walk from Sinchon subway, which connects easily to the city centre
The place is basic but fine. Bedding and rooms simple but sufficient. Kitchen area downstairs but we didn't use that. 
Service was great. We arrived after an overnight from Tokyo, and were at the CT just after 9am. But, by giving us a room on a different floor, Eric let us check in, so we were kipping in our room by before 10am. 
Then, when we went away for 6 days by car hire Eric rented us a wifi egg but wasn't sure if it would work outside of Seoul. If not, he said, he would refund the hire fee. It didn't work and he freely refunded the fee when we returned for a further night before flying back to Japan. 
An excellent budget stay

Good budget stay, excellent staff 

Every time I look for an accommodation for travel, I always consider three important things: 

1. Distance from the train station: More than 5 minutes' walk is difficult for me. When you're coming back home to your hotel after walking for 12,000 steps that day, you'll know what I mean. 

2. Free breakfast (for hostels) OR nearby eateries (for hotels) 

3. Private bathroom 

I'm not that fussy about how many the thread count of the mattress is, or how shiny the receptionist's teeth are. :) 

Location 
For my second trip in Seoul, I chose to stay in Sinchon area: 

◆ It's located at Seoul's University Belt, so there's lots of affordable restaurants and shopping areas here. #FeelingStudent  There are also lots of parks and open areas within Chocolate Tree, so if you're there on winter and there's snow, you can also take this photo :)

◆ If you love cafe-hopping, Sinchon area is the way to go. The cafes here aren't crowded because they're usually filled with students who are cramming for their studies. 

◆ This area comes alive at night! If you're a fan of sleeping in until afternoon, and then exploring the area starting 4 PM onwards, this is the place to be. 

◆ Sinchon is one train station away from Hongdae. If you're coming from Incheon Airport, just take the train from the airport to Hongdae. Alight at Hongdae and take the train to Sinchon. 

◆ Chocolate Tree Hostel is four minutes away by walking from the train station.  

Impression 

During my earlier communication with the hostel, I asked them if I could check in early. They said check-in was at 3 PM. So imagine my surprise and utter happiness when I went there around 10 AM and Minnie checked me in early! ★ That's an extra 5 hours without any additional charge. 

This may seem trivial to you, but if you slept at the airport the night before, and needed a bed to sleep in immediately, five hours is magical! 

My room was at the 2nd floor.

★ There wasn't any elevator but it was a short climb upstairs (10 steps), so no worries. Plus, Minnie helped me with my luggage. 

★ The private room at Chocolate Tree Hostel is a no-frills and basic room filled with all the stuff you needed for a comfortable stay.

Worth the stay

I spent only one night and I regret so much.
This place is so great. Well located (near Sinchon subway station).
Very friendly staff, small but very clean room (TV, wifi, fridge, heater).
Definitely come back there next time.

Amazing guesthouse

This is a good option if you're looking for privacy and convenience, but are on a budget. I stayed in a private room with an ensuite bathroom, which at 50,000 won was much cheaper than a room in a B&B or hotel in central Seoul. The room itself is plain but functional. My only quibble with the room is the mattress was slanted to one side and quite uncomfortable. There's no elevator, so consider this if you have a lot of luggage. The location is very convenient, being a short walk from Sinchon station and not too noisy. The map provided is a bit confusing, with navigation not helped by arriving at night, but once you get the hang of the location, it's fine. The breakfast provided is the usual hostel self-serve toast and jam deal, but there are plenty of bakeries/cafes in the area. The reception is quick to respond to e-mails and staffed by friendly, helpful students/young people. Kudos to Alley from Taiwan who was especially helpful.

Decent budget option

I spent 16 nights in one of the two basement rooms and I can't complain in any way. Of course, it was a little louder in the living room, but never disturbing. The room was greatly equipped and clean. Everything worked perfectly and when asked, the staff was always available immediately. It was also celebrated together with all the guests, which was a nice company and made new friends. The staff also helped with problems outside the guesthouse, for which I am very grateful! The kitchen is well equipped, with the word I usually left out in the morning, since the restaurants in Seoul are very good and delicious. Laundry which is almost no problem and dry feet is equally convenient! I have walked past a cafe in the main street of Seoul, which I think is the best place to stay in the city.

No vacation, second home!

Very welcome guests who speak good English. Ask for information, they will gladly answer you. You have access to a kitchen (where coffee, eggs and bread are provided) and a common laundry room, located two steps from the Sinchon metro station, you can discover the city with their beautiful metro network. Two steps from the university district, you will find restaurants and shops of all kinds. If you stay a few days, I advise you to buy the transportation cards that you will find in a 7 eleven. This allows you to get around the city by metro and bus. And it is also good in several major cities in Korea. Do not hesitate to book a clean room, the card is. If negative, the mattress is hard.

A place I'd recommend to all my friends

The guest house is very well located, 2 minutes from the Sinchon metro station (green line), in the university district. Many bars around. 15 minutes walk from Hongdae. The reception is very nice, Eric organizes a party on Wednesday night, ideal to get to know the other travelers of the guest house. You can ask him for excursions or bookings, Eric helped book a flight for Jeju. The room is very comfortable, very clean, well equipped with a large TV screen, computer, climate. The top! Better than many hotels!

Every year I go to Chocolate Tree and I don't have any worries. Very welcoming staff and they speak English! Located near the Sinchon train station this is the moving place in Seoul! (with Hongdae and Gangnam).
