Nice hotel, very good P-L ratio, a lot of younger people, very central and convenient for traffic, parking is a little silly, but it works, rooms to the driveway were a little noisy, even if in the morning the delivery truck comes to the restaurant, it's a little noisy depending on the room location.

Autumn in Sweden

We were a largish party in need of three -- four double rooms in Kalmar and ended up here. We thought, having seen the pictures on line, that it would be a sweet, romantic little getaway with turn-of the century charm. We have never been more wrong. Somebody gutted the place sometime in the seventies or eighties, and replaced all the old-world charm with plastic and cheap wallpaper. It looked and felt like some sort of boy scout cabin from 1976 inside. People were very ticked off! Someone in our party actully tried to get another hotel, but there wasn't any.  Not really a hotel, but a couple of poor rooms, upstair from a pizza place. And very hard to access if you're not young and agile. One member of our party has a bad leg and it was agony for him to get up and down the stairs. There was some kind of awful service elevator but that was clearly not for the guests convenience.

A joke

The 2 things I first judge a hotel on are the staff and the cleanliness. The staff is outstanding and the bathroom and bedroom immaculate.  Our rooms were up a steep flight of stairs and overlooking the street. They were noisy with the windows open and a bit stuffy if they were closed. That would be the only negatives regarding the hotel but wouldn’t stop me from returning.  Next time I’d ask for a room farther from the street.  Still, It was an easy walk from here to Kalmar Slott and the harbor.  Thank you Eva for making our visit so much fun!

Gracious and warm staff and clean!

Kalmar and its castle. Comfortable B&B with free parking. Small but clean room, small but clean bathroom. Convenience to visit the city on foot. Breakfast in the back room of the restaurant located just below the rooms the Kallskänken. Rich and Swedish-style breakfast, very few desserts like anywhere else in these parts.

I really enjoyed my stay at this charming hotel. The staff were great. The room was very clean and a good size. I will definitely put this on my list of hotels to stay at when in Kalmar. The breakfast was good but not great. It felt more like coming home than staying at a hotel.

Charming hotel

We stayed only one night. The front desk was in the restaurant, and the staff were really friendly. Our room was small, but clean. The bed wasn’t that comfortable, but ok. No blow dryer in the room. The restaurant attached to the hotel is vegetarian, so not great for everyone. There is a pizza place across the street and a steak house half a block away. 

Quaint!

It's located in two wings adjacent to the culinary store building. It's not the center, but it's a few minutes walk away. There's free parking at night along the street. Excellent internet. A courtyard to smoke. A spacious room.

It's an unusual hotel.

Hotell Hilda was a delight.  We arrived late at night as our train was delayed but the door was open and a welcome note guided us to our room.  The hotel is in a lovely old yellow building and easy walking distance from the Slot and the old town.  The rooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable and there are sitting areas around like little living rooms.  The restaurant Kallskanken is part of the property serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with delicious, creative meals.  The staff, everyone, is kind, caring - make you feel like a part of the family.  Above all is Richard, (Martin was away but I'm sure he's equally nice); Richard was so kind and helpful, there for us in every way.  Hilda is off the In Track,
less expensive and glamorous  but what a wonderful place to stay!

Like visiting relatives in the Old Country

We found Hotell Hilda to be the best accommodations of our 21 day driving adventure through Scandinavia. Hotell Hilda is a charming old place within easy walking distance to the "Gamla Stan" (old city) district of Kalmar. The castle, Kalmar Slott, is also an easy walk from Hilda. The service and breakfast buffet were both excellent. The selection of gluten free and lactose free items was very nice too as my wife has celiacs and it made it easy for her. 
Johan, the restaurant manager, which is attached to the hotel and is excellent, was very personable and helpful. We found the owner, Richard and his wife, Hilda, (the hotel's namesake) to be be equally warm and welcoming. 
The place is not a 5-star resort if that's what you're looking for, but it is a charming old jewel, family owned and clean, warm and friendly. Our room, #1, was fairly spacious with a nice sitting area and many widows that you could open in the evening for a nice breeze. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Hotell Hilda!

Wonderful time at this gem in Kalmar!

The reception staff were very kind. The rooms are spacious and very nice. The bathroom is clean. The breakfast was plentiful and very good. A real jewel in a beautiful city. It's a pity I didn't get a chance to enjoy the hotel restaurant, because it looked really nice!
