The Zervreila restaurant is your average Swiss chalet-style restaurant, which can be found in many mountain areas of Switzerland.  The food, service and drinks menu are all fine and unexceptional.  However. the restaurants location and what lies nearby is its real charm.  In winter, take to Gondola (free) up to the ski area, then walk the two hours to the Zervreila Dam and reservoir.  Rest awhile at the Zervreila Restaurant, then hire sleds.  Those hardy enough can now walk a few extra Km uphill around the Zervreila reservoir to St Bartholomew´s chapel.  Once there, turn around, sit on the sled and head off back to Vals, almost 10km downhill (with a few flatter walking sections). Take your time: admire the vast icicles, explore the old road tunnel and beware of the odd Postauto or car which may be heading uphill on your way down.  This is the real attraction of this restaurant so make sure it is open before you set off.

We have been coming to Vals regularly for many years. We also return to Zervreila every time. Unfortunately, the quality of service has declined massively in recent years. We had to wait on the terrace for over 15 minutes until an overcrowded waiter looked up to pick up the order. For two coffees and a piece of blueberry cake, it took another 20 minutes (with complaints) until the desired was served. Guests were not happy with the service, which you could get from the comments. Unfortunately not the first time.

Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be...

We were on a motorcycle tour and drove up the beautiful road to the reservoir with a lunch stop at the Zervreila Hotel. The food was very good, the service was very friendly and the scenery is beautiful. I can really recommend it.

Here from 2002... Never missed one year...
The best place for us. Unformal, at the top of the mountain, in the silence; with Tony's hospitality, slides, and the best rosti in the world.
We arrived here to recoverfrom a difficult year in 2002 and we came back with friends and than kids, 1, 2, 3. The last time I went there to celebrate my 40th birthday and it was the only place where I wanted to be!!!

Vals forever

The guesthouse is small and modestly furnished, a good starting point for a hike. The food is excellent, especially the wildlife is highly recommended, the service is loving, attentive and warm. Switzerland is pure.

That's great!

This small village has been lovingly run by the host family for generations and offers in a breathtaking environment, away from all the world's sounds, direct access to an enormously diverse alpine nature. Just below the forest boundary, you can either enter a fantastic moss-growing jungle, steeped in expressive rocks and caves, dive, or soar to the heights and experience a breathtaking variety of plants and rocks, which you no longer think is possible. And if it were much more troublesome, you can comfortably drive down to the Walser River and enjoy a direct access to the upper reaches of the mountains.

Best cuisine, family-friendly and uncomplicated in wonderful nature

Had dinner here following a business meeting in Vals.  Food is classic Swiss, in an incredible mountain setting.  I was there in the middle of February, and it was completely buried in snow.  Great wine, great staff, fondue was over the top great.  Very popular with my business colleagues and very uniquely Swiss.  You are at the end of the world.  Tunnels, twisting roads, specatacular mountains.  Very Swiss romantisch!  Go here and you will talk about it for some time to come.

After dinner we used sleds to get back to Vals.  Downhill for 5 or 6 miles!  Seriously.  Attorneys in the US would never let it happen, but in Switzerland, if you go flying off the cliff, its just one less person to take up space...  For the adventuresome, or the properly lubricated by great wines, try sledding home.  Seriously.  Some of our group are pushing 60, and they were troopers and did it.  But dress very warmly, wear boots, because this is the mountains in Winter.  (PS, we only ate here, did not sleep here).

A cozy, authentic, small mountain hotel at the end of the world...perfect for relaxing in all tranquility, indulging in culinary delights and simply letting your soul roam. Whether in winter or summer, a trip here is definitely worth it.

A must for all cheese fondue lovers!

Very familiar ambience, fondue with homemade bread not to be missed; walking, snacking, jumping, sunbathing, admiring the pond - you don't sit down in the valley but have the view. Just turn off. Charming, simple, real. We've been to Vals several times, summer and winter, and we've enjoyed it very much each time.
