Meander Taipei Hostel – Ximending

I initially booked this hostel because every travel blog on the internet recommended to go to Ximen in Taipei. Despite my hesitations due to the price, I decided to go for it.

I stayed there for a whole two weeks. Although the beginning was slow as I didn't proactively engage in any events, it turned out to be one of my most memorable hostel experiences I had in my life.

The hostel offers well-equipped facilities, featuring capsule-style bedrooms with curtains that provide everything you need. Additionally, there's a spacious common room where you can easily strike up conversations, work, or study.

However, what truly made my stay exceptional was the staff.  The whole personal is so lovely, warm and funny that it felt like having its own little family there.

The person really making a difference there is Ginny because she spends so much time and energy in bringing people together, making them comfortable and organising events. She made it notably easier to meet new people even for naturally reserved personalities. Without her, I doubt the experience would have been as enjoyable.

I also want to give special thanks to Olivia, because she was also genuinely fun, friendly and there for you if you had questions and tried the best to help you out. It was also very warming and funny to see her mood brighten when she tried real imported swiss cheese for the first time in her life.

Also thanks to Melody and Han/Hen even tho I didn't talk to them as much as I did with the other two.
I was able to spent one amazing night with all four of them which was the start of one of the best times I've had so far.

Memorable Moments at Ximen: A Hostel Experience Beyond Expectations

After my first 7 days in Taipei had passed ("one person one room with bath" policy), I could finally check into Meander Taipei for my last night in Taipei and Taiwan on this year´s trip. Even before I was allowed to check into a guesthouse dorm bed, the staff was very helpful allowing me to store my luggage and giving me various advice. The living room is very spacious. Fairly unusual for a hostel is the laundry room with washing machine and dryer. I managed to handwash my whole set of clothing (in the bathroom, as it was far too little for a washing machine) and get it dry within 40 minutes during which I sat in my bunk checking mails etc. The disadvantage is that there is no space for drying towels and other small things. You have to climb one flight of stairs to F2 before you can make use of the elevator -  not nice, if you have got a heavy suitcase. The leaflet informing guests about dining options and sights is very well done. The area around Meander Taipei offers a huge variety of restaurants etc., the leaflet provides detailed information with a map. Meander Taipei is about 10" from MRT Ximen station.

Not bad. Stay a few days in there is a specially experience.

For example, the staff wanted to check a  room card from the other guest because the staff figured out the card won’t work. These kinds of things are normal.

A special experience

Excellent location walking distance to Ximen station, but just far enough to be nice and quiet. Lots to see and do around. Modern and very nice hostel. Staff were extremely friendly. One of the most comfortable hostel beds I've had so far. Nice breakfast in the morning, just wish it started a bit earlier, even if they just left out some toast for those who need to leave early. Nice common areas, everything was clean. My only complaint was that the other guests in the dorm were quite disruptive, turning on the lights and talking very loudly around 4am every night I was there. I realize this is beyond the hostel's control, but still dampens the experience. Overall would recommend, though there are cheaper hostels, this one is definitely worth the money.

Great stay!

This is the nicest hostel I've been to by far. Very modern and comfortable, with a number of amenities and touches that I never even thought to look for in a hostel. The upscale experience starts as soon as you check in, 
Where you get a short tour, including map of nearby recommendations. It's more expensive than some other hostels in the area, but far nicer.

Notes: Front desk employees there until 11pm. Toilets have heated seats, and bidets! Toilet paper is half decent, something I've never seen in a hostel before!

Top opportunities for improvement: Hand dryers in bathroom, larger lockers

Didn't realize that luxury hostels existed!

It was my first time staying in a Hostel and everything just go beyond my expectation. Prompt reply from the customer service through fb messenger. They even help me to receive a parcel before my arrival which is really kind of them. What I enjoyed the most would be the shower facility. Very clean shower, high water pressure & great  amenities provided eg: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shower cap, hair pin, cotton bud even pantyliner. Clean toilet and each of them comes with a smart bidet toilet seat & sanitizer dispenser.  I stayed in a female dorm of 8 space is a bit limited but it is ok for me. Lift on the first floor so you need to carry your luggage but not an issue for me. Location about 10 mins walk from Ximen station exit 6 mostly flat surface.

Excellent Staff

I stayed at the Meander Hostel for most of my 12 day stay in Taiwan. It was the best hostel I've stayed in. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the large common are makes it very easy to meet fellow travellers.  Nadia helped to answer my questions via email before coming, and was so kind and friendly during my entire stay.  

I will definitely stay here again the next time I come to Taipei. The location is also very convenient. Ximending is a lively, vibrant neighbourhood.

To be honest, I didn't expect much when I booked this hostel, as I was just looking for a cheap place to stay in Taiwan. 
So I was even more surprised when I arrived at the hostel and everything exceeded my expectations! Since I checked in around midnight, no one was there to greet me, however, the team had left me very precise information on how to settle into the hostel, so my whole arrival experience was completely hassle-free. 
What impressed me the most was the tidiness of the entire hostel: the common room, rooms, and bathrooms (!!) were all very clean! The fact that everybody has to wear slippers indoors probably plays a huge part in that and is, therefore, a very good idea. :)
All employees are extremely nice, professional and speak very good English, which matters a lot to a non-Mandarin speaker like me. They also do their best to introduce their guests to activities and sights in Taiwan. 
Lastly, I would also like to emphasize the great location of the hostel, situated in the fun and young neighborhood of Ximen. When the coolest restaurants and shops are right next door, it is hard to get bored. In addition, the MRT station is also only a 5 min walk from the hostel. 
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the Meander Taipei Hostel and would definitely stay there again. Xexe!

Awesome value for money!

My 2 nights stay at Meanders exceeded my expectations! It actually was the best accommodation out of my whole Taiwan trip. I really love the common area on the 4th floor, especially the hanging sofa net attached to the ceiling :) The dormitory is also very clean, as well as the showers. I would definitely stay here again if I am back in Taipei.

Very clean, comfortable, highly recommend!

Just left Taipei after a great few days in the capital. Me and two friends arrived in Taiwan to travel around the country for two weeks. The Meander was a perfect base for us to explore the city from. The staff were particularly helpful, we owe a big thanks to Abbie and Xienxien (probably wrong spelling apologies) especially. If they hadn’t stepped in and saved us when we were having travel issues to help find us an alternative route to our next destination, there would have been a big problem. Thanks for having us, we will be back!
