Ko Phi Phi Don

First a warning about Ko Phi Phi for the uninitiated - only go if you are interested in partying late into the night.  Ton Sai has a happening nightlife, but the beaches in the immediate surrounding area are foul due to all the garbage and sewage.  A twenty minute walk south along the water front is Hat Yao (where Nomads is located) and the beaches are good, but the prices are exorbitant.

Nomads is tied for the cheapest accommodation in the Hat Yao area with bungalows starting at 700 baht, and dorms for 650 baht.  However, the beds are hard, the bathrooms are disgusting, and everything associated with water fails to function properly (see attached photos).

So if you are interested in beaches, skip Ko Phi Phi as the prices are ridiculous and the beaches are mediocre.  However, if you are looking for a party, come to Ko Phi Phi, but perhaps stay closer to Ton Sai and be prepared to fork out a lot of cash.  This is not an island for those on a budget.

disgusting facilities, overpriced, decent beach

This was the worst mistake I've made on my trip. I booked in for one night, as I just wanted to see a bit of Phi Phi on route to the rest of Thailand. It was double the price of any other hostel I've stayed in in Asia, but seeing as it was peak season and the only option left, I didnt mind too much.

I'm travelling alone, so when I tried to get the water taxi to the hostel, I was asked to pay 200baht....double the normal rate. seeing as I didnt want to pay a singles supplement just to get to the hostel, I decided to walk it seeing as the directions said it was only a 20 minute walk from the pier. I am a fit 20-something and had a 9kg backpack, so if anyone could get there, it should be me. What an ordeal. It is a 40 minute walk, over several very soft sandy beaches, rocks, wooden plankways, steps, and 'steps' built crudely into the dirt with a rope to steady yourself. Hardly a reasonable pathway for anyone to be expected to walk down, let alone with luggage. This was not made clear at all. Not suitable for anyone with any kind of mobility issues or just unfit/unwilling to do a bit of climbing to get there. 

When I got to the hostel, the unfriendly staff took me to my room, through a building site. It was 3pm. Unfortunately I couldnt unpack as there was no electricity between 2-5pm, and no window to open to let some light in. This was not advertised! Also no wifi in the room. 
The restaurant was meant to open until fairly late, but when I tried to get dinner at 7pm everything was packed up. Only a couple of resorts nearby so if you dont mind paying their prices you can eat there, otherwise you need to trek back into town.

The room was very basic. No hot water. 

It's on a beautiful beach, but was definitely not worth it.

Worst place I've stayed in

Great location as it was right on long beach, however this also meant a 100 baht water taxi every time you wanted to go into town! We stayed for 3 nights and the first night we woke up to cockroaches scuttling around the room. The toilet was revolting as it stunk out the entire room and seemed to leak at times. The beds were rock hard and the Walls were paper thin! This backpackers was way over priced, wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Overpriced, terrible facilities, good location.

The location of the hostel was perfect, on beautiful long beach and close to places to eat and to the main town.

HOWEVER the room was terrible. We were in a 6 person dorm.  once we arrived we were told the power went off for 6 hours every day which was quite annoying.  When we got into the room it smelt like sewage, as the toilet was leaking, and there were quite a few Cockroaches.

Not worth the expensive price for the poor facilities.

Beautiful beach, poor accommodation

We stayed here for three nights after reading lots of reviews on other low cost rooms on line.
This place had the best reviews, so we tried it out.
The location for us ( a couple ) was great, the views & beach is amazing. 
The town of Ko Phi Phi has a crazy night light but is overall dirty & too much for three evening.
You can get a long boat for 100 Bart per person at any time to take you from the town to long beach, which gives you the best of both worlds.
The accommodation was very basic, there was no hot water & the shower was useless, infant the toilet hose gave warmer & more powerful water than the shower.
The Mosquitos was quiet an issue, we bought burners for the room for seven eleven.
If you don't mind a bit of rout his place is for you.
