A magical place and lovely owners!!! impeccable cleanliness, top-notch breakfast! Kokai, her husband and Boby are on the lookout for you! They can handle your taxis, booking boats etc etc etc... Located 5 min walk from a multi-activity paradise beach!! A real island I'll be back....

It's a magical place!

It's a good place for backpackers. 
Simple bamboo bungalows. Super friendly stuff. The owners helped us organize all the trips. Advised us also to go to the emerald cave by kayak in the morning, which was great idea btw.
Moreover, the location of the bungalows is just perfect! So close to the Charlie Beach - the best beach on the island and to the shop ;)

Good for backpackers

Very simple bamboo bungalows suitable for those who are not looking for luxury... the space is small, so for me traveling alone was perfect, but already in two it starts to get narrow. Let's say that the experience is very close to camping...and in the evening the animals of the forest make themselves feel (I recommend the stairs, otherwise let them give free to the reception :-))

For a real experience on Koh Mook Island

We stayed two nights in this property, choosing, given the low cost, two different accommodations, a bungalow and a room. These are very spartan accommodations but still very livable for a few nights. The village on one side and the beautiful Charlie Beach on the other side can be reached in about 10/15 minutes on foot.

Simple but very valid

I stayed in a room, simple and clean, with fan and mousquito-net, private bathroom. The wifi is excellent ! And all the staff is always here and disponible. I forgot my passport/money/CB and they were very professionnal to send it back to me ! But it's better to make a reservation in advance : good & cheap place are often full ;)

very friendly and helpfull

Bamboo Hut Bungalow Resort is simple, clean and basic traditional Thai bamboo huts or concrete sheds (make sure u specify what you want as we booked the bungalow but were given the shed, which we were happy for in the end as they are much bigger than the huts but the huts are way more charming). This business is family run and the people are great, warm and friendly. The attached restaurant serves lovely Thai food and excellent value for money, we spent loads of time here eating! The WiFi is good and strong and works in the rooms. The rooms are very basic but all your needs are met. They are clean, with fresh sheets + towels and private toilet and shower. No hot water which is typical. Walls are pretty thin in the sheds and you can hear your neighbours. Expect the odd insect or gecko and lots of mozzies and weird smells. We had a fan and mosquito net in our room and nice air flow. Being in a bungalow is one step up from camping and this accommodation is cheap so what you see is what you get and if that’s what you want you will love it here!

Simple, good, great!

The room is small but well arranged with a hammock outside. There is a fan and a mosquito net. The bathroom is rudimentary but very neat. You can eat in the restaurant (banana pancake at the top) and book your boats without worry.

price ratio is very correct

Simple but clean rooms, quiet despite the promiscuity of the other bungalows.

Did you ever wish you had Thai cousins with huts near the beach in a tropical island paradise? This is the closest you will find to making that wish come true. 

I stayed for 17 nights in hut #3. It was very clean and had everything I needed. It was the perfect size for one person or two very close people. It's rustic, as all bamboo huts are, but I slept very well with the sounds of nature and flow of fresh air. Don't expect a western style hotel room, this is more like luxury camping. Go in with that expectation, after all you are staying in a bamboo hut for the experience too. I had my own attached bathroom and front porch with seating and hammock. It was perfect for me.

Charlie Beach, or Haad Farang, is only a ten minute walk away. I walked there most days and took a taxi back up the hill for 50 bhat. The village is approx a 15 minute walk in the other direction. The location couldn't be better, very central to everything yet quiet. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive if you need one. They are open air motorcycle side cart taxis. There are no cars on the island. 

There is a small shop very close by with snacks, mosquito spray, sunscreen, toiletries, drinks, etc. There is also a Thai Massage place next door although I didn't try it, it looked very nice. 

Mosquitos were not a problem staying there. There were a few in the restaurant at night but small ones and not at all like the giant ones I saw on the other side of the island near the pier. I had a mosquito net over my bed but honestly never saw any mosquitos in my room. 

Bamboo Hut accepts credit cards, which is really nice as not many places in this price range on Koh Mook do. As of this writing there are no ATMs on the island either. 

There is an on-site restaurant with delicious food, tour and transfer desk, as well as laundry service. Everything you need can be managed from there with the best prices too. I recommend the Emerald Cave tour and snorkeling organized by Kookai. That was the highlight of my trip. 

Make sure to book your transfer from the airport with them, you will pay less than doing it on your own and it was easy. It takes about an hour by minivan from the Trang airport and then a half hour very scenic longboat ride to Koh Mook, then a 5 minute motorcycle taxi to Bamboo Hut.  As of this writing it cost 500 Bhat per person. 

Kookai and Wan are the loveliest people I met in all of Thailand and the perfect hosts. They will definitely make you feel at home. It's my dream to go back there one day to see my new Thai cousins. 


Like Home

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights during a week long stay on the island. We had a fine time in the hut. 

+Wifi - although very temperamental 
+Really nice, helpful staff
+Fan in the hut
+The staff will help organise ongoing journey, bike rental, kayak rental etc at a good price 

-The huts were just a bit too small for 2 people 
-We had a fairly large rat that would poop all over the hut when we were out :(

You must be mindful of the fact that staying in a bamboo hut is a novelty. It comes with its quirks - insects, lizards, frogs and (on rare occasion) rats can get in. The accommodation is not cheap because of this - we still paid around £10 a night, although that's cheap for the island as a whole - as it's simply something that comes with staying in a bamboo hut. Therefore it feels unfair to consider it a negative. Just know what you're getting into before you rock up.
