My Wife and I have been to many Michelin starred restaurant's in London and other places in the UK. In our view, Restaurant 88 at Hotel 1881 Archiestown compares favourably with most of their competitors, and is better than many.

Second time dinner in this beautiful hotel. As the last time was great. This time we took a meal in the Archies bar. And again the food was great. The steak was super prepared and staff are really kind. We send all our guests to this fantastic restaurant. We’ll be back as well.

5 star experience from start to finish.

From the friendly welcome, the beautifully stylish bedroom, to the carefully selected wine menu and the impressive food. Our stay was nothing short of exceptional, we just couldn't believe our luck at how quiet it  was. 

On arrival we were warmly greeted by Tim, we enjoyed drinking in the bar and evening a la carte meal. Our second night we enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu which was very good and the chef and his brigade are destined for great things as others have said. Our final experience was the full Scottish breakfast which we both agreed was the best hotel breakfast we've ever had. 

The room was well sized with the comfiest of beds, a super en suite with walk in shower. Everything is exceptionally crisp, clean and modern. 

We wish Hotel 1881 all the success in the world.

The welcome, the decor, the surroundings, the fact it's family-owned, the service, the attention to detail, the food, the drinks. All first-class. If you're in The Highlands and want a place to stay or indeed just to eat out at. This is the place.

World-Class Rooms/Food/Drinks/Service

Super experience. We treated ourselves on a night at this hotel which is perfect in every way. Really nicely decorated, fantastic food (no really… the best food I have had in a very long time), beautiful spacious rooms and superb staff who are friendly and helpful with a smile. Couldn’t be better. 

The mattress in our room was too firm for our liking, but that’s personal. And I would have liked a small coffee machine instead of a French Press in the room. 

But… A must visit when in Speyside! 👍🏻

Best food in Speyside!

We had a great experience overall, the rooms are very comfortable. Food at the bar is amazing, as well as the drinks and whisky selections. 
Liam was the best host, super caring and always available!

Fantastic experience!

We had an amazing lunch at 1881 last Sunday, Liam immediately made us feel very welcome. We were a group of 9 and ordered in the bar and then moved through to the dining room. The attention to detail was amazing, great drinks and really good service.

Out of 9 starters, mains and a couple of puddings, we all thought each dish was excellent. Highlights were the venison tartare, beef shin ravioli, mushroom tart and the service.

Very, very good lunch

Special occasion family meal in restaurant 88. The chef’s tasting menu. 
Totally blown away. 
The quality of produce, composition and presentation is outstanding and worthy of a Michelin star
The professional service and attention to detail is perfect. A warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere In beautifully designed surroundings. I have visited on a number of occasions now both for tasting menus and bar meals. The consistency of excellence was present every time. I’ve been fortunate to eat in several Michelin star establishments and this place is up there with them. Simply perfect.

Local Restaurant

4 of us had a super meal in the bar yesterday evening.  We were warmly greeted by Liam the waiter, who together with the young man behind the bar provided us with great service and kept our glasses full!  The decor is fabulous too.  The food was all locally sourced, incredibly fresh and beautifully presented.  It was lovely to see this hotel brought back to life.  It has really transformed Archiestown and is well worth a detour.  We’ll be back next week for a lunch in the garden.

Fabulous steak, chips and bearnaise sauce

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night on Friday. We had booked tickets for a South African wine tasting event run by the speyside vintage wine club and thoroughly enjoyed it. The canapes served to accompany the wines were delicious.  We ate dinner in the cosy Archies bar after this and really enjoyed a relaxing meal. They also serve a tasting menu in the other restaurant which we would like to try next time. Breakfast the following morning was cooked to order and there was a great selection. My husband had eggs benedict and said it was cooked perfectly-one of the best breakfasts he has had at a hotel. Great selection of drinks in the bar too and reasonably priced for a hotel of this standard. The hotel has a spacious decking area just outside the bar for enjoying a drink in the sun on a nice day. The hotel has been beautifully decorated and the room cleanliness was spot on, comfortable and plenty of space for a short stay. Parking is included just outside the hotel and there are plenty of spaces. We were made to feel very welcome throughtout our stay by Liam, Tim and all the rest of the staff. Service was first class. Highly recommend this hotel and their sister hotel the Dowans in Aberour. Will definitely be back!
