Wow amazing!!!!     Rooms just excellent stayed here before Christmas for 2 nights.   Meals both nights brilliant,  family arrived the second night, so so lovely towards children.   Breakfast was excellent.  Totally 5 stars.    Will definitely be back x

Brilliant long weekend

This was the perfect place for my father's 80th birthday trip to the UK.  Speyside is such a special place and the Dowan's embodies the friendly atmosphere, the phenomenal food and most of all the best Whiskey.  Having The Still Whiskey bar allowed us to taste all the Whiskeys without having to run around Scotland all day.  This way we focused on the Distilleries we wanted to visit and found some new favorites from the Dowan's collection.  All the staff were incredibly helpful from arranging our reservation, asking all my questions via a long email chain and most importantly, taking care of us when we were there.  They truly went above and beyond, especially when we ended up arriving A LOT later than expected due to travel challenges.  

The restaurant and tea was amazing.  Do not miss the scones, whatever you do!  Don't hesitate to make a reservation here, you won't regret it.

Special Family Run Hotel in the heart of Speyside

Visited for a pre- Christmas lunch. Warm welcome on arrival.  Service was efficient and friendly and food was delicious. The menu had variety and good vegetarian options. We hope to make a return visit soon.

Our 3rd visit to the Dowans was just as wonderful as the previous two. As we had stated on our booking, that it was a visit for our anniversary, we were greeted warmly on arrival and offered a glass of fizz on entering our room. During our subsequent stay nothing was too much trouble from the owners and staff. Always bright cheery conversation and on a day when i was exploring the local area solo, due to my wife staying at the hotel, as she was a little under the weather, advice on local places to visit was offered along with reassurance that all staff would help my wife with any requests, as she was just staying in the room. The dining on both nights was extremely pleasurable. The food was excellent and pre and post dinner drinks in the bar were enjoyed along with friendly conversation from the bar and waiting staff. We were presented with a wonderful chocolate treat on the night of our anniversary.  Breakfast was fresh, delicious and filling, all dining taking place in appropriate  atmospheric settings . I have come to expect nothing less from the Dowans and I would recommend staying or just dining to anyone and we will certainly be returning for future  anniversaries.

Lissie, Courtney and Zach were amazing. This whole establishment is exceptional.   It was the highlight of our trip.  The food and drinks were also delicious.  I honestly can’t say enough great things about this place.

The Dowans Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. The house was gorgeous, the beds were very comfortable, the staff was amazing & the food was great! The location was perfect to enjoy Speyside. A perfect place to stay while enjoying the area. I would love to return!

Perfect place to stay in Speyside.

The pictures do it too much justice. We were so excited to our visit to this hotel based on the photos and reviews. It is not as good as it looks on line.  Also, the “family” owners are a bit unhappy. Unfortunately, I have to report poo in our toilet, the worst hotel experience you can have.  

It was 79 degrees today and no A/C. I understand that Scotland is temperate but at $300 a night, you should have a/c. All the other hotels we stayed at did. 

I wanted to love it but I just could not. Too much $$$$ to Deliver below level experience. Hot room, mediocre service and a poo in the toilet do not add up to 4 stars.  Sorry.

Try somewhere else

One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The place was immaculate, the staff was so kind and hard-working, and the setting was incredible. Very well situated for day trips for golfing, castles and distilleries. It's a family that runs the place, and they are so personable, and dedicated to an amazing guest experience. 

The restaurant is also fantastic, and they make a mean martini. The whisky selection is epic. Can't recommend it highly enough!

A 5-star experience

Excellent stay! Everything was fine: the rooms, the service, the cuisine, the whisky selection, the price…The village of Aberlour at walling distance is very pretty. We can only recommend the place as one of our best experiences in Scotland.
