Lovely guest accommodation in central Alnwick, close to all amenities. Jo very welcoming and helpful. Nice clean tidy room, comfy bed. Fridge in room very useful as no breakfast available in the guest house. Great value for money.  Would definitely stay again.

4 night break

We booked this stay through Expedia who used Agoda. Agoda sold us a room that does not exist. On top of that they didn’t provide the lady with any contact details of mine to inform me of the error. She also tried in vain to contact Expedia/Agoda to cancel it.

When we arrived the lady (Jo I think) was very apologetic even though it wasn’t her fault, she showed me all the emails and activity in her phone from trying to sort this out. 

Despite it being a busy bank holiday she had managed to book us into another guest house 30secs away for the first night of our stay and personally escorted us there. Jo?? Then gave us some local information and other places to try and book for our second night. She also provided us the difference in cash. Thank you for all your help

Above and Beyond

Stayed here for one night as we going to the Alnwick Garden Light Trail. The location is perfect, parking was tricky as it’s just outside the front of the B&B just off the pavement with no drop curb but there is ample free parking a short walk away. Jo the host kindly let us check in earlier which was much appreciated as we were travelling with a toddler. The room was spacious, well equipped and clean. The ensuite was very small but adequate and we had plenty of towels. Would definitely stay here again and everything is in walking distance too.

Lovely B&B

This guest house feels like a classic b&b style affair. The room was a good size and the bed was really comfy. The bathroom was a little on the small side and awkward at times to manoeuvre around but for 1 night only it was more than adequate. 
I would have give. The property just 3 stars but the host was so lovely and really helpful that it 100% deserved an extra star. 
Above all this property is in the perfect location. A short 5 minute walk in one direction to the famous Barter bookstore and 5 minutes in the other direction to get to the town and/or the castle. Perfect!

A lovely welcome

Room was reasonable size and clean. Bed was comfortable. Very small awkwardly shaped, shabby ensuite, mould round selant, overflow and plug. Extractor fan & light in tiny shower cubicle not working. We had to walk sideways to get to the shower, which was pathetic. Loose toilet seat and hot water tap. Ensuite in desperate need of up dating by a professional, not an inept amateur as the present one. Thin towels, very basic toiletries. Off road parking not easy to access, no dropped kerb and very short. We had difficulty getting our very small C1 into the space without it overhanging the pavement. The cars of other residents were overhanging the pavement  by several feet inspired being right up to the wall. The landing was dimly lit due to several light bulbs not working. Shelf under mirror in bedrooms loose and wobbly There was no proprietor on site to report theses matters to. In spite of advertising itself as a B&B we were not offered the option of breakfast. There were creaky floorboards in bedrooms and landing which caused disturgance at night and in mornings.
I would not recommend this place of visit it again.

Inadequate

Very good B&B. Tracey & her sister made us very welcome. Covid clean  - both bedroom & public spaces. Good choices for breakfast. Well cooked and well presented. Not in the centre of Alnwick but only 5 mins walk to the cafes & restaurants.

Very good B&B

Loved this place.  The decor was lovely.  Beds and sheets comfy.  Clean comfy pillows.  Plenty of hanging space.  

Lots of thought had gone into everything such as extension lead, hairdryer, full length mirror, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, good quality tea/coffee, plenty of milk, hot chocolate -even a biscuit and a chocolate each day.   

Dining room available to use if you got a take away.  

Felt very very much at home here and nothing was too much trouble for Jo.  

Other guests were quiet and considerate.  

You won’t be disappointed 

Great location - plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance.   

Relaxing and comfortable 

Just had a wonderful stay at Castle Gate this last weekend. Jo was very, very welcoming and attentive and is a superb host. We stayed in Room 4 which was dressed like a hotel suite and it looked like the pictures on the website!! Slept 3 very comfortably. Brilliant location too. Central enough to access everything yet quiet enough not to be too busy. Perfect for a short (or long) stay in Alnwick which btw is great for accessing the coast... the best kept secret in Northern England!! 

Fabulous Weekend!

My partner and I booked this place last minute to break a long journey, and after a terrible night in a different hotel the previous night, we were anxious for some relaxation and a good nights sleep. What we got as this hotel was such a relief - a lovely warm welcome and a cosy, thoughtfully decorated room with all the necessary amenities. Despite its central location in Alnwick it was extremely quiet and we had a wonderful nights sleep. We will stay here again if we come back to the area. Thank you for a little bit of peace!

Just what we needed

Jo was an extremely welcoming host and I was able to check-in ½ hr early  which was much appreciated.  She provided excellent recommendations for eating locally (Barter Books café, 5 mins walk – see separate review).  Although the accommodation was located on the main street in Alnwick, road noise was not an issue since I had a rear-facing room.  Although small and having minimal storage space for luggage, the room was clean, comfortable and functional.  Good TV, shower together with tea/coffee-making facilities.  WiFi was also good.  Ideally situated for all local amenities and shops in the town centre, and very close to Alnwick Garden.  Breakfast was served in a beautifully decorated dining room, and there was ample choice for continental/cooked options.  As I had travelled by train/taxi parking was not an issue, although one should be aware that the available space in front of the building was really only suitable for one/two very small cars.   Alternative free parking, however, was available a few minutes away in Greenwell road. I would happily stay here again, since Castle Gate offered excellent value for money.
