We arrived late on a Friday evening after a shocking journey. 
We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who showed us to our room and told us to relax there is no rush for dinner although it was time for our  pre booked  table .
As we started to unpack the phone rang, it was the receptionist asking us to come to the restaurant immediately for dinner as the kitchen was closing. 
Dispite the rush, and the urgency to feed us before the closure of the kitchen the food was a delicious explosion of flavours, cooked to perfection and a joy to eat. 
Our room was average sized,large bathroom with a bath, very cosy indeed but overly warm for sleeping in. 
Breakfast was lovely, and nicely cooked to perfection.
The hotel was old and had a lot of history with it, however I found many of the pictures and portraits gloomy and very depressing,  
Overall we had a great time, I would highly recommend and wold love to stay again.


Fantastic food

Extremely comfortable, old world hotel - quirky charm. We would happily stay there again. 
We were in the Paradour Suite which is separate from the hotel and therefore very quiet. It is upstairs, so not good for people with mobility restrictions. Huge! Enormous bedroom; bathroom with large bath (no shower; only shower head attached to bath); separate sitting room. Comfortable bed (super king).  

The service at the hotel is excellent - friendly and efficient. The food is delicious - well presented, well cooked, interesting and varied. Extensive and interesting wine list. 
Suggested Improvements: the room could do with a fridge and a teapot. 

The hotel is within view of the sea and there is an easy walk to Bambrugh (check tides before setting out). Turn left out of the drive and walk past Bundle Bay. The tide will be out (because you checked!) and you are likely to see lots of wading birds. Walk for half a mile or so along the road until you reach the next set of buildings. There you will see a footpath sign pointing  across the fields. Go diagonally across the fields, (at the gate in the fields, once through, turn right and follow the field margin keeping the stone wall on your right). Go through the static caravan site, turn left down to the beach. Walk along the sand until you can see the castle and come up up the golf course buildings. When you reach Bambrugh the Copper Kettle tea room is a great place for refuelling before walking back.

Extremely comfortable, old world hotel - quirky charm.

Stayed for a weekend break, and its a little hidden gem. The room was large and comfortable. The hotel is steeped in history. If you are lookign for a swanky modern hotel this is not for you.
The level of service was high and the staff very friendly and attentive. The food in the restaurant was amazing as was the presentation. Would go back for sure.

If your looking for a place that will blow you away with history and warmth along with great service then look no further.
The room was lovely and the meals were to die for what a chef.
I cant wait to come back so close to the lovely coastline.
WOW

rooms super cosy and warm

Stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas. Experience was OK but nothing special. Staff are very friendly but very amateurish and appeared to be entirely part-time. In all the time we spent there we saw nothing resembling a manger let alone an owner. Got the impression that everything is done on the cheap.
Food was well presented but very average. Christmas lunch was OK but the buffet in the evening was just awful. Tired slices of turkey, ham and beef with totally inedible sweets and cheese. They have 2 AA rosettes but don’t ask me how. AA rosettes are pretty much meaningless anyway.
We stayed in the rose suite which is in the courtyard beside the hotel. It is spacious and QUITE comfortable but the furniture is past worn-out and the shower is positively dangerous. Cobwebs in December were optional.
This could be a lovely country house hotel but needs serious investment which I suspect the current owners are unwilling or unable to provide.

Tired and worn out

Well, having stayed here for the first time and having read many of the more recent reviews. I offer the following observations based on 25+ years in hotel and restaurant management.
This is a Country House style hotel, and the decor and overall ambience is typically that. If you want a modern hotel with modern furnishing then this is not the hotel for you to choose, and Holiday Inn would be a better option for you. It's all horses for courses.
We stayed in Rose Suite and found it very comfortable indeed. We were totally delighted with everything it had to offer.
We dined in the restaurant both evenings. The food was excellent. The restaurant has 2 x AA Rosettes which is an indication to the quality of food. All cooked and presented beautifully.
Thank you to everyone who made our stay so lovely and adding so much to my wife's birthday, and especially to Daisy who was so welcoming and helpful. What a star she is, and indeed all of you are.
We look forward to returning sometime next year.

An absolute gem of a place.
From check in to canapes pre dinner, great varied menu, extensive wine list.

Fabulous 

We have recently visited this wonderful hotel for the second time. It was just as charming as on our first visit. The staff cannot do enough for you, they are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Every aspect of this hotel is to make you feel comfortable and at home. As for the food.......👌!! I cannot recommend Waren House highly enough and can’t wait to go again.

A little place of heaven

Firstly, anything I say in this review should be taken in the context that all the staff were helpful and friendly, the rooms were spotlessly clean and the food of good quality, but...

At £150/night in Northumberland we were entitled to expect a great experience. Our first impressions weren't helped by the state of the outside table & chairs outside our courtyard room (Hobbit), they were dirtly & covered in green mould, and hadn't been cleaned for ages!!. The plastic cover over the outside light was also broken. Not a great start, first impressions are really important. The member of staff in reception was however really helpful in moving us into the main house.

Our main area of dissatisfaction however was the evening meal experience, it just lacked polish & refinement. The hotel asks its guests to dress accordingly, but the staff just didn't look the part, jeans, visible tatoos, dreary uniform... Our bottle of wine was dumped onto the table, no offer to taste & pour. Whilst the food was fine, it was served at break neck speed, the complimentary starter being followed within 2 minutes by our actual starter, this being followed within 5 minutes by our main course. We asked for a pause before dessert, and ten minutes later we were asked to choose as the kitchen would be closing, this was at 9.25 pm. We politely declined and that was the end of our dining experience (we booked for 8.30 btw). The staff were running around in a bit of a frenzy to get things done, they were "noisily" re-setting tables near to us for breakfast blissfully unaware that we were dining. This could and should have been a fantastic dining experience in a lovely dining room, instead it was good food served in fast food style by staff intent on speed rather than quality, certainly not what we paid for. We didn't complain because by then the damage was done.

We were also taken aback by the 10.30 closing of the house as there is no-one on duty to open the doors. We didn't buy the explanation that this was as a courtesy to guest (good nights sleep....) it clearly is an unwillingness to pay a night porter as is normal in hotels.

With regard to the hotel, it is a wonderful building with great character. We thought it looked a little tired & cluttered in paces, but that's down to personal taste.

On the strength of all of this, we didn't stay for the 2nd night we had booked, we chose instead to stay close by. We wouldn't choose to return because our experience nowhere near matches up to the £250 for the night we spent. If the hotel is to promote a lovely experience in a traditional country house, then it should pay attention to the small details that make it live up to that billing, in this respect it was way short.

I hope the owners take this in the spirit in which it is intended, they as much as potential customers benefit from feedback, good and otherwise.

Didn't match up to the billing

Stayed for the weekend and enjoyed the breakfasts and fine dining which is Michelin and AA rated. Lovely historical house set in a formal garden, however this has it's drawbacks if up in the attics. No power or separate shower in a dated bathroom (blue loo & bath). Rather tiny TV and fussy decor but you can WiFi up there. Staff were great and if you like birdwatching, there is a great spot overlooking Budle bay within 200 metres
