My partner and I stayed here in August 2023 and although the room we stayed in was clean and had the basic facilities you would expect from an average establishment, it was over priced (£320 for two nights) for what we actually got and was not up to the "boutique" standard as advertised. We we offered an uncooked breakfast (cereal/fruit and yogurt/toast) on site as we were advised by Elisabeth, the host that the deli where we were supposed to eat was closed due to staff shortages. The set up at breakfast was a bit uncomfortable as we had to share a medium sized table which was crammed with ornaments and clutter as well as breakfast dishes with another two couples so there was a lot of passing milk, serving plates, jams etc back and forward to each other, so although we were looking forward to a bit of comfort and a "delicious cooked breakfast" at the deli (as advertised", sadly it was a very ordinary stay

Lovely building in a great location but that's about it. The room, albeit large, was flitfhy - the amount of dust alone was ridiculous. Wi-fi hit and miss and a very strange setup for the breakfast - one night in our room; the other in a deli 5 mins from the accommodation. The owner shouldn't be in the hospitality business - sadly she lacked any form
of decorum, impossible to track down when we had wifi issues and my other half
was near certain she was constantly under the influence. We enjoyed a hearty meal one evening at a nearby 'pub' and mentioned where we were staying to the owner - that alone opened a can of worms and apparently (unbeknown to us at the time of booking) this property and Elizabeth have been
the talk of the town for over 15 years....sadly not in a good way. 

Overpriced and dirty there are much better options out there. We won't be returning but if you do fancy an authentic Fawlty Towers experience then this is the place to stay!  

Avoid at all costs - Fawlty Towers

Loved the room as soon as we walked in. It's big with a king-size bed by one of the three sash windows with plenty of open space and comfy leather chairs. Colourful, heavy curtains kept out the light and any noise from the street below. There's a good sized bathroom too with a powerful walk-in shower.
The property is located on one of the main streets and is perfectly located for bars, retaurants etc. 
There is no on-site parking but the free parking by the harbour is about a 3 minute walk away.
Elizabeth,  our host, was chatty and helpful and put together a fabulous full breakfast for us in the morning. 
I can't recommend the Captain's Quarters too highly

Simply brilliant

Crazy Lizzie is absolutely awful, the worst host ever, completely rude, and ignorant, extremely expensive for what it was, clutter EVERYWHERE, dirty room, skids on toilet, dust everywhere and a horrid smell, when mentioned to Lizzie, she replied telling me I was wrong and that it wasn’t rated one of the best b&b’s for nothing… god knows what she had to do to get that, I’ve had way better stays for places a quarter of the price, she calls this luxury… absolute hovel, you’d have a better stay in a council flat.

Worst bed and breakfast experience in my life

We were slightly worried by some mixed reviews but the accomodation was fab, spacious,spotlessly clean a little eccentric but wonderfully so and the welcome good. Yes its a few minute walk to the Deli for breakfast but absolutely worth it- Would stay again if in the area

Quirky lovely accomodation

Had a wonderful room on the top floor - bright and beautiful with lots of lovely unusual deco and a jar of delicious home made biscuits. Biggest bathroom we’ve seen in ages with a wonderful bath and gorgeous bath gel/soap. Breakfast a 5 minute walk away was brilliant - plentiful, delicious and came with some great recommendations for places to visit. Great restaurants and bars minutes away, would definitely recommend

Quirky and beautiful

The room we were in, 'sugarsands,' was tastfully decorated and quirky. The fireplace was a lovely feature and the bed was very comfortable.
The owner was very pleasant and paid an interest to us as her guest's. The breakfast at the owners deli was a very short walk away and was delicious! The freshly squeezed orange juice was very moreish too!
The owner opened the deli on Sunday for guest's only and was very accommodating! Her dog is extremely cute and friendly also.
Thanks for a lovely stay!

A great little quirky B&B

The room was over-priced.  Over breakfast after the 1st night the host informed me that she couldn't access the room payment I had paid in full to Booking.com.  I said I thought it was an issue between her and Booking.com.   She disagreed saying it was my problem to sort out and she then said I couldn't stay the second night unless I paid her directly for both nights.   She was extremely rude and has been in subsequent correspondence over the issue.   I didn't stay the second night of the 2 night stay I had booked, as I refused to pay twice.  I have had no refund for the 2nd night.   If you need further information on the host's character, read the many other 'terrible' reviews for The Captain's Quarters on this site.


An awful stay thanks to the very rude host wanting me to pay twice

Stayed here for 2 nights but struggled to find the front door which was poorly signed, walked into the wrong place before lizzie (the owner) greeted us after phoning the land line. We provided with the whole top floor to ourselves with amazing bathroom that boasted a deep stand alone bath and bedroom with a very comfy bed and seating area. The decor was brilliant making it feel like a bright seaside residence.  However there was bird poo inside the window and cob webs hanging down from the lights. If you are a light sleeper then stay away, the double glazed windows do nothing to stop the constant racket the seagulls cause. We got woken nearly every hour as a result. Not directly the b&bs fault but unfortunately heavily impacts on your stay combined with the blinds not stopping any light coming into the room. Breakfast is provided by the owners in a near by deli which was a short 3 minute walk away. The breakfast was great with our table reserved for the first morning. However for the second morning we were not asked to reserve a table. We arrived at the deli at 10am to find it shut. The owner was in and informed us they stopped serving at 9:30 but failed to inform us of this. Despite this the staff were kind enough to make us breakfast. Lizzie was not present in the B&B throughout our stay with the rooms and "reception" being on opposite sides of the building with no access inside. Her mobile number was provided but received no answer when contacting her which fitted with other reviews on the Internet. A very comfortable but strange b&b with each room being roughly the same price yet are all different sizes, didnt know which room we had until we arrived.

Comfortable but odd.

Please be warned about this crazy lady. Every time we came in contact with her she stunk of booze. Even first thing in the morning. She was rude, obnoxious and should consider her position in the service industry. She was obstructive at every opportunity. The room we asked for was let to someone else as they arrived first. The charge however was not reduced to compensate this. Breakfast was okay for me, I only had cereal and toast. My partner was given 2 deep fried sausages that were burnt on the outside but raw in the middle she kicked off when we complained. 
She made us feel very uncomfortable at every opportunity I think that was because we were a same sex couple. We were told that we will be served our breakfast in our room, which wasn’t really what we wanted. The rooms were reasonably clean bed linen was pristine and although an old bed it was very comfortable. Dirty tissues found down the side of sofa. Bathroom was clean with a lovely shower, however all the plus’s were outweighed by the bad things. This lady was an absolute nightmare, drunk most of the time and needs to be removed from any  accommodation recommendation sites. 
Needless to say we won’t be going back as it totally ruined our visit to a beautiful place.
