We booked a family room. On arrival room found to be dirty. 2nd room offered but also dirty. 3rd room better but shower waste filthy. We complained & the manager cleaned it herself. There were 4 window blinds, 3 of which were broken so not much natural light. During our stay (4 days) the room was not serviced - no toilet rolls or tea/coffee replenished, no bedding/towels changed. The bin was overflowing by day 3. I complained to bar staff who relayed my complaint to manager but she declined to talk to me just relaying the message "we do not clean rooms while the guest is present". I pointed out we had been out from 10am to 4pm every day so they had plenty time to clean. The room we ended up in was not a family room, therefore not what we had booked - a refund of £40 was given to reflect this, but no compensation offered for the poor service. 

Disastrous visit

Excellent stay. Family room was big, smart and comfortable. The food was terrific (huge portions) and the staff were brilliant. Highly recommended. Had a little walk to Canada wood and check out the village. 

Excellent stay - room, food and staff superb 

Solid value for the price.  We had the handicapped room (last available), and so the bathroom was a bit strange with the entire room being the shower and a big squeegee mop to clean the floor.  Room was ground floor and thoughtfully appointed, but at 9:00 am (we were just off an international flight so were tired), they dumped a huge load of bottles in the dumpster right outside our open window.  Otherwise the room was quiet.  Bar/restaurant (decent) on premises.  One real plus--unlike most other beds in small hotels, the bed was very comfortable and softer than most.  

Solid value

An imposing and historic building right in the centre of the city, yards away from the cathedral and market square. Comfortable rooms although the hotel as a whole feels as if it has seen better times. Our main problem was that we couldn't get an internet connection. Reception insisted our devices must be faulty and would not give me access to a hotel computer for an important Zoom meeting I had scheduled. I later got a connection at a cafe 10 metres away from the hotel, demonstrating that my laptop was in fact working.

Disappointed

We were given a reservation and booked onto the Christmas meal at very short notice after we had to leave our home urgently due to unforeseen circumstances. The staff were friendly and welcoming to us and our pet cat and we enjoyed a very happy Christmas at the Green Dragon hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Julien was kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

I’ve been here a number of times in recent months and have found the pub to be consistently excellent. The food is first class, Sunday roasts are as good as I’ve had anywhere, and the pizzas are great. Favourite meal is the chilli-topped nachos! Really friendly bar staff and a very friendly atmosphere all round. Would highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Fantastic pub, great food & friendly atmosphere

I booked into The Green Dragon as a stopover for a group of 6 cycling the King Alfred Way in July 22.

As we were cycling in/out, to avoid carrying all our luggage on the bikes I arranged to drop a kit bag by car beforehand and collect again the week afterwards. I spoke with Debbie on the phone to organise this and she was very helpful in making our complex logistics straightforward. We were also able to wash our bikes on arrival and securely store them overnight in the skittles alley.

We stayed in one large room together which was perfect for our group and very good value. The food was great (dinner and breakfast) and the service first class.

King Alfred Way cycle stopover

Stayed here during a bike ride on King Alfred’s Way. Had a lovely warm welcome from the Landlady who let us hose the dust off our bikes and store them in our rooms. Rooms are a very good size with all facilities needed. The pub is a really good local with great friendly staff. Food is good pub fare and we had the pie of the day which was the best steak pie I’ve had in a long time. Great breakfast in the morning. Fully recommend the Green Dragon
Downside is the big hill to ride in the morning, but that’s more to do with my legs than the Green Dragon😂

Friendly welcoming village pub

Wow, what Ann amazing hostess Debbie is.  My friend and I turned up sodden and very tired after an eventful and very wet day on the King Alfred Way.  Debbie had no qualms about us taking our bikes into the room and had a hose to clean them first.  She made sure we had a table for food later and even gave me a lift in the morning to get my bike fixed as I couldn't get a taxi for love nor money.  The room was great, very spacious and clean with hard wood floors making it easy to clean with bikes in the room but also very modern in feel.  I'd recommend the Green Dragon to anyone looking for a place to stay in or around market lavington

Amazing hospitality and phenomenal for bike packers and King Alfred Way

Stayed overnight in this basic but comfortable accommodation. Room in the annex was clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable (enjoyed a good nights sleep). Plenty of parking on site, Didn’t try the pub, but it looked ok and staff checking us in were friendly. Bit pricey given breakfast wasn’t included.
