Dittisham

 Warm  and helpful welcome, ideally situated in the centre of the village, with car park and ancient church  close by, fabulous views. Ferry to Dartmouth leaves throughout the day.
Dittisham is chocolate box village,but very hilly and could cause a problem for people with walking difficulties.

The award for the post office/corner shop/ pub with the best food goes to this esentric Gem. What it lacks in looks makes up for in a incredible view, service with what can only be described as basil-esq charisma and quite frankly excellent food. A special mention to the bass, hallomi fries, steak, home made chips and of course our waiter/ barman.

What a great place to stay. The room was spacious and recently refurbished. The owners couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. As a vegan they went out of the way to accommodate our dietary requirements.  The food and drinks selection was excellent.👌

A great pub at the heart of the community!

A great pub with friendly staff and great food & beer.  Accommodation perfect, very very comfortable with all mod cons and idyllic views over the River Dart.   Super friendly, attentive service, warm and obliging.  Such lovely people.  Best Sunday roast, served piping hot, with no less than 7 fresh locally grown vegetables and masses of crispy roast potatoes.  Total feast.

Wonderful local ….

Having read some earlier favourable reviews of the Red Lion (and since The Anchorstone was fully booked) we persevered with the long uphill climb from the ferry but wished we hadn't bothered. The pub must have changed hands. It is now run down and the outside  space with the view is dilapidated. The food was dreadful, served on disposable plates with tiny wooden knives and forks. There was one  harassed lady serving the shop and post office (which are within the pub) as well as the food and drink.
Avoid.

Found this whilst sheltering from storm Francis. Lovely village and this pub, post office and restaurant was very welcoming.

Very nice beer, didnt try the food but people were making nice comments..

If you like Blackadder you will definitely enjoy the antics of the barman who must be a dead cert for a cast member if they ever ( please) make another series.

One feature around here is that mobile reception is appalling. The Wifi at the red lion is outstanding enabling easy download for our netflix addiction.

Storm bound in Dittisham 

Came for a meal here with the family - six adults and two small children.  Made very welcome and the children were even given a box of toys to play with, Very relaxed.
Place is quirky but we had the best meals of the holiday here.  Views from the patio are great.  You can even do a bit of shopping whilst you are here.
Well worth a visit.

Now lets get this straight, this is not a Wetherspoons pub, or a Travelodge.  If you want to have that boring experience served by a spotty oik while he's looking at his phone or a view of the local gas works then don't come here.  Instead you can have an amazing view over the River Dart from an elevated position in a very clean tidy, recently refurbished,  room with a good bathroom and shower.  

You can park your car safely, you won't do that in many places in the area around Regatta week in Dartmouth, catch the ferry to Dartmouth or cross to Greenway and see Agatha Christie's, second, home. Well she wasn't daft picking here.

Downstairs serves as a Post Office, village shop and pub.  Makes for interesting things.  You can but tea bags at 10:00 pm, just pay the bar man!  As such this is a pub for the village. It was quite obvious to see both full time local residents and folks with second homes. Yep and they bring their dogs in, but hey it's THEIR  local. 

I've seen comments made by some about how disgusting it is that dogs are in the dining room.  There is NO law that prevents dogs coming into a dining room, indeed in Austria I've seen it occur in the finest of hotels. The only thing that has to be observed is that there is no cross contamination.  Well we can leave that up to children to do that!!

So to sum, you can have really relaxing time here if you decide to let go a few expectations.

Great location, great fun

Main course off the Specials board was average, still hungry after the small portion of fish and nine chips, so ordered cheese and biscuits for £6.95, got a few slices of cheese and a couple of stale crackers, leave feeling ripped off

The Red Lion in Dittisham is not only a pub but also an excellent cafe’ with a huge terrace and the village shop and the village post office! Located in a beautiful
Village in the banks of the river Dart.
