This was the first time I have been to eastern on the hill. The 2 days I spent at this very pleasant country pub. Walking in to the pub area is a pleasing experience, you are greeted by a traditional village pub setting and very friendly, helpful staff. The checking in/checking out process was smooth. The food is of a very good standard and a good selection of real ales. My room was clean and tidy when I arrived with housekeeping replacing towels with fresh ones daily. The bed was comfortable and a supply of tea and coffee was available to use. The room also came with a tv with freeview. 

Overall, I was truly impressed with the whole experience and would definitely use this accommodation again.

Relaxing

I am stunned to say the least and not in a good way.

We went here today for a Sunday Roast. On checking the menu, there was no mention of beef. I asked the waitress/barmaid why there was no beef (assuming it had ran out) but was told they don’t have the facility to cook beef. I thought this was very strange considering I used to frequent this place on a regular basis before it was closed and always had beef. Anyhows, fair enough.

We were shown to our seats and waited there for a good 20/30 minutes for someone to take our drink and food order. I assumed we’d been forgotten about so went to the bar to place the order. Again, fair enough, this happens.

I ordered nachos to start and pork for my main. Nachos arrived. They were quite nice. Pork dinner arrived. Not good. I don’t think I’ve tasted a more ‘tasteless’ roast ever. It was like eating an Aunt Bessies dinner. No offence to AB but come on. As a paying customer you expect something edible. I expect roast potatoes that are not pure white. I expect more then 3 tiny pieces of pork. I expect tasty gravy. I expect my plate NOT to be covered in frozen mixed veg. I hardly touched my plate.

I complained to the waitress. She said she would tell the chef. She never came to me with his response. We got the bill so I went to the bar to pay and again complain. There wasn’t even a small discount taken off the bill as a goodwill gesture so I assumed the chef wasn’t bothered. The poor girl behind the bar was very apologetic and embarrassed. She spoke again with the chef and she then basically told me that no money was to be taken off. So it was more or less a ‘like it or lump it’ .... this did make me laugh. Shame the chef could not come to speak with me. This was just beyond rude. I will NEVER come here again.

This place used to be so lovely. The food was always of a high standard. We were always treated by the staff professionally and attentively. We used to look forward to coming here. 

I do wonder how long it will take for another closed sign to appear given today’s experience.

My advice. Always remember your customer. Improve the attitude and put some love into your food pronto

Bad on a few levels..

Had a wonderful stay in this pub for work. They let me check in early on my way to the event I was going to in case I got back too late to get in. The room was massive and luxurious, I love the little touches like the fancy coffee machine and jug of milk in the fridge. The towels were fluffiest I’ve ever used, the bed was comfy and the breakfast delicious. Staff are so nice which was needed when I came in muddy and stressed in the evening from a day in the rain! And the pub is great for a pint and has a lovely selection of beer. Friendly place and hope to come back again if I’m ever up this way.

Lovely place to stay

Visited 01.07.19 Becky who served us was lovely, but the other people in the pub who we thought maybe the Landlord/Landlady did not make any remarks when we gave our constructive critasisum to Becky.
Our experience was Timothy Taylor £4.50 a pint, Large Sauvignon Blanc £8.20 'and Fish and Chips which were smaller than a child's portion £10.95.
When my husband went to pay after we had given our feedback nothing at all was said to him about out feedback and we paid in full and left.
Apparently the Landlord has only been there for 6 weeks and apart from ourselves there was no one else at all in the pub.
It's a shame we will not be returning as  the wine, beer and food was good but we don't like being ripped off.



Complete RIP Off

My wife & I spent 3 nights at the Exeter Arms last week & were very pleased with the all-round service.  Becky, Rob & all the staff were very friendly and extremely welcoming.  Our room was not the largest, but it was well furnished with a large en-suite.  We were particularly impressed with the quality of the bed linen which lets so many places down.
The breakfasts were delicious and the 2 evening meals we enjoyed were the same.  Good beer as well.
Thanks Rob, Becky & Team.  We will return when we next stay in the area.

Well Worth A Stay

We stopped for lunch a bit by chance, as we were forced to leave the main axis of our route to Scotland because of an endless traffic jam. A beautiful discovery! A very pleasant welcome, a meal prepared with care and service to the little onions. We had a very pleasant time in peace.

An unexpectedly beautiful discovery

We stayed for one night at Exeter Arms. Very clean and nice room, nice bathroom, nice structure in general. We didn't try the restaurant unfortunately. Good breakfast. Unfortunately only the room a little noisy that overlooks a rather busy street and the mattress and pillows too soft than my habits. Still a great structure.
