For a Saturday night during the Ed Fringe Festival 52 pound for a ‘double ‘ room is a good price.
The beds are not full size doubles so be warned.
The toilet seat dropped with a clash .
Clean and central but no luxury

the bathroom was very roomy: hairy floor, hairs in the shower, sink and toilet, dismantling broken toilets, very small shower only two very small toilet towels. no bath mat not nice bed, very small for two people, and grinding, too flat pillows no TV nothing to do with the online photos.

That sucks!

This structure seems to be in the process of being renovated (it smelled of paint recently) and it is very comfortable in the center. Our room was in the middle, the bathroom was normally clean. The bed, on the other hand, was something hallucinatory: very noisy, with every movement we wake up. The staff is kind, but disorganized: we asked the evening if we could leave the suitcases for a couple of hours in the reception and we were told about ourselves. In the morning (different person) prevented us from leaving them by denying that it was possible, for one night it can be done, more maybe avoidable.

Good location.

Edinburgh is very expensive during the festival. McDonald Road Residence was a relatively 'cheap' option, but the experience itself was poor. The room was small, the 4 foot bed barely adequate for 2 people and very uncomfortable due to old, lumpy mattress. The building was under repair and there was dust everywhere. Some basic maintenance had not been done in room which was shabby. In short - if you can find anywhere else - based on our experience - we would suggest you do so....

Poor Experience in lovely city....

Clean room - bed unfortunately very small and not suitable as a double room. Ventilation is a problem because the windows do not open (just slightly tick) Very good location! In 15 minutes walking to the center, directly opposite the supermarket.

Price performance is correct

We booked for 1 night stay to explore Edinburgh for the first time. Decent for a one night stay and nothing exceeding that. Their card machine does not accept Amex. They do not accept 50 GBP notes either and thankfully we had change at the time.

Dormitory experience

We arrived here after a wonderful stay of two nights at the Stirling Campus. We had to park our car along one of the streets surrounding the Residence, which was easy and not that expensive (Saturdays and Sundays is free of charge) but please note that some homeless people sleeps in the Park behind soon be sure not to leave any valuable inside. The premises were very old, the place was not that clean and the moquette emitted a very bad smell, especially the one placed in the stairs. Also the tools in the shared kitchen were very worn out and the lock of the door leading to the three rooms and to their kitchen was broken so anybody from the rest of the Campus could consider to come and use our kitchen. I have to say that this was the most expensive and the dirtiest place we stayed in during our whole holiday. Besides this, the welcome was "great". I was asked to pay in advance, (first lie) which wasn't the case as Booking stated we were supposed to pay at check out. I agreed to pay without saying a word and I handed two 50 pound banknotes to the receptionist as the cost of one night was around 76 pounds. He stared at me and said "nobody accepts the 50 pounds anymore" (second lie) so I asked him to clarify what he meant when saying "nobody". I asked if he was talking about Scotland or he was referring to his place and the answer was "nobody in Edinburgh (third lie) as people cannot withdraw them from the cash machines anymore". I told him he was wrong as we had had our sunday lunch at "The Ox" and paid with 50 pounds. He told me that he was not accepting my money and I should go and change it. I replied that it was Sunday afternoon, but that I would still give it a try after having checked in. The answer was "if you do not give me the money I am not giving you the key". Really frustrated I threw the credit card to him and from that moment on we totally ignored him

Not worth

We booked very last minute for the festival, and we're looking to spend under £80 a night, and this fitted that criteria. 

But, as it is student accommodation so we were not expecting a great deal. 

Our welcome was polite and friendly, and we were told all the information we needed. 

The room was very basic, when we stay anywhere we ask for three things

1. The room is clean & tidy
2. A good shower
3. The bed is comfortable 

well as Meatloaf says 2 out of 3 ain't bad, but i'm sorry it is, 1 and 2 were good, 3 was awful, the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. 

if it wasn't for the staff, it would have been 2 stars, 

but what do you expect when the room is more then half the rate of average hotel prices in the city on that night. 

does what it says on the tin

I won't say that I was disappointed because I was more or less prepared, I had an idea of where we were going to be, so... little more than to add, a room in a student residence with the fair, I insist, the fair. Nor did we need much more, we just wanted a bed, a shower and a place where we could have cheap breakfast and dinner, that is, a supermarket; since during the day we would be outdoors. The bed was small, 1'20, to sleep apretaditos and the shower... because it didn't absorb the water very well.

 Acceptable

Needless to say, we didn't have many expectations since it was a student residence, but one thing is that, and another quite distinct is the dirt of the site, the smell of mead in the bathroom dwarf, a carpet full of suspicious manchas... From one day to the next you won't shake the bed, aside from the theme, because the mattress is 40 years old.
