In what I think was1963, mum and dad borrowed a military tent, it was tiny and had camouflage paint on it. My uncle an ex para owned it.
Dad took us to a field beside a golf course at Tilford, Surrey . They were so ashamed of it, that they hid us amongst bushes out of sight.
The summer was skorching hot.
Mum and dad enjoyed so much, that they went to London and bought their first big ridge tent.
It was just a field with tents.
I've not been back since then. I'm here now but can't stay. This is what I discovered. It's beautiful and we will come back to stay. 
We drove down from The Cotswolds to reminisce. 
We found the property and asked reception if we could walk round. After telling them my story. They agreed. It is now and apparently has had lodges sited there some 20 years. They are WOW lodges. 
I've got to go back one of these days when I can afford it, even if it's only for a couple of days. 


Lovely 

Another item checked off my bucket list. My partner and I have always wanted to stay in a log cabin and if we are completely honest, we didn’t know what to expect. 
When we got to the site we parked in the golf club as we couldn’t find the lodge. We asked someone who worked there and was really rube and just kept pointing across the road. And it was. Just across the road. Sometimes I can be so silly. We got there early and was advised to come back at half 2 and the lodge should be clean, so we went to the lovely little pub next door and had a slap up meal.
The lodge was very clean and had everything you could of needed. 
Slept very well and the shower was nice and powerful. 
I stayed with my partner and two of our friends with their dogs, it was cozy but none of us felt that we were on top of each other. 
They also had a iPod music player but unfortunately it didn’t connect to my phone. 
During the days we went for walks and I highly recommend the Devils Punch Bowel, lots of stunning views.
In the evening we played board games and ordered takeout and I was surprised that they deliver to your own lodge.
Had a wonderful stay and will like to come back again during the Xmas period.

Perfect get together break

We enjoyed our 3 night stay. The three bedroom lodge was very clean with modern kitchen and bathrooms
The ducks were the stars if the show for our eighteen month old grandchild.
We appreciated the high standard of equipment including dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The Prince of Wales pub was welcoming and food was good. 
We will return to stay at Tilford woods,as we have family nearby.

A peaceful stay in a lovely area

The Lodge was comfy and spacious, the Wi-Fi works well, beds are comfortable, TV is a good size. Only annoying thing was the lack of basic essentials. For a place with kitchen you’d expect at least some salt and oil for cooking, ONE roll of toilet paper for 4 people isn’t going to be enough. We had to drive 15 minutes and buy salt, pepper, oil, toilet paper, paper towels, a sponge and washing up liquid! So if you’re planning on staying here make sure you bring this stuff from home, but personally for the price we paid, it should already be available at the property.

Comfy Lodge but missing basic essentials

The experience with this park sadly was terrible. We stayed in Hawthorne lodge 32 and when we arrived on 12th June we noticed a couple of ants crawling around the property and that there were three pest control ant boxes (one in kitchen, one in main bathroom and one in the master bedroom).

After going out for the day on 13th June we got back to the property late and there were quite a few ants in the main bathroom which we cleaned up with towel and hot water. Then at 1am our autistic daughter went to the bathroom only to scream and to our shock there were hundreds of ants including flying ants coming through a hole in the floor of the bathroom. We called the out of hours for assistance and 45 minutes later a staff member showed up. He hoovered the ants that he could see then used ant spray throughout the lodge. I asked if we could be moved he simply said no. The fumes from the pesticide used were awful, the ants had spread to the hallway, kitchen and bedrooms. One of our autistic daughters had a panic attack, our other autistic daughter screamed the place down because a flying ant landed on her in the bed. Myself and my ten year old daughter had asthma symptoms due to the ant spray. We finally got the kids to sleep just gone 4am.  We should have been offered alternate accommodation or a refund which I requested at the time. 

The staff came back the next  day and put ant powder under the lodge (ants still inside the property). The same member of staff admitted that the lodge had an ant issue and that they had accidentally washed away the ant powder a few days earlier when jet washing the lodge. This negligence on the part of Darwin Escapes ruined the break completely for us and our children. Hoeseasons were useless in helping and we were stuck there, three nights taking part in a low budget I'm not a celebrity bush tucker trial. 

If you get assigned lodge 32 request another or better still book somewhere else.

Terrible, awful unless you love ants, negligent staff and lack of health and safety don't do it

We booked a weekend getaway for our anniversary and we were very pleasantly surprised ! The lodge was very spacious and pristine. The lodge we had was lakeside view and was lovely to sit out on the balcony in the morning to take in the view. We were very surprised to find we had a sauna in our room, which was lush. The park is lovely and quiet and staff are very friendly and happy to assist. We would definitely recommend Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with woodland walks !!

Exceeded our expectations !!

We have just returned from a long weekend away. The lodge was very clean and spacious. It was well equipped with everything we needed. We found it ideally situated. The adjacent golf course and common can be walked all over as we did for hours. There are plenty of towns and villages to visit nearby. 

Overall we had a lovely time and would love to return and explore more.

Great location and nice lodge

Arrived at reception at 3:45 after a long car journey only to be told by the receptionist the Lodge was still not ready. She advised we could park in the allocated space (not adjacent to the lodge) 
Took a stroll to the pub The Duke of Cambridge next to the site to get a drink. We had our dog with us luckily it was dog friendly. 
Walked back to reception to ask if the lodge was ready finally it was. Asked if we needed a key as have stayed in many lodges and usually have induction and tour of property. On this occasion we’re told just go the key is inside the Lodge which was unlocked. No further information!
On entering the lodge all appeared clean if a little dated. The sofas were uncomfortable the bed was comfy only annoying thing was turning over in bed the frame would squeak and convinced the whole thing may collapse. 
The hot tub was extremely hot on the first night but a little cooler the next day. Our bedroom was adjacent to the hot tub and could hear it coming on throughout the night to heat up. Did not try the sauna in the bathroom. Bathrobes, 1 towel each and slippers were provided. 
There was a small welcome pack in the kitchen of mini washing up liquid, 2 dishwasher tablets and a spare bin liner.  Kettle was really noisy on boiling thought it was going to explode. No plastic glasses provided to use outside. Dining chair was ripped.
Perhaps a little TLC would improve this Lodge and little touches like cushions on the sofa. 
All in all if you want a quiet break the park itself is very quiet. 
Connect to onsite Wi-Fi good. Mobile signal weak. 
Recommend the food in The Duke if Cambridge!

Midweek break

Our second time staying here while visiting family close by. Lodge was spotless and well equipped. It was also toasty warm and ever so comfortable which was great considering the cold weather. Beds very comfy. Shop well stocked  with the essentials and staff very friendly.

Short stay

We had a week during the summer holidays.  Stayed in a Sturt Lodge overlooking the pond. The lodge was a fantastic location to explore the area which we had never been to.  First impressions the lodge did have a few cobwebs on the outside, and it is quite dated, but the pictures showed this so we had expected that.  With our lodge overlooking the pond it was a fantastic location and was really lovely feeding the duckies!  It was one of our highlights and the children were disappointed to leave.

The park on the pub next door is great for children, and we would recommend the food there too.  It is only a small lodge park, but great exploring areas around the golf course.  Reception printed a map for us which was very handy.

In terms of the area, lots of National Trusts - we enjoyed Devils Punchbowl and Winkworth the most as more going on there.  Alice Holt Forest was a great day out with the gruffalo trail.  Also Junglemania golf, not too far and we also explored nearby  Farnham which has a great adventure playground.

We really enjoyed our stay.  Well equipped.  Slight issue with ants but we fixed that, also woke up one day to the biggest spider but these things you get being warm weather and a remote retreat.  Would stay again, a very lovely week away!  Would recommend for the base alone as so much going on nearby.  Tilford was very picturesque.
