A party of 20 spent 2 nights and can't praise the place and the staff enough , definitely no negative feedback.  Rooms were lovely and spotless and 10 out of 10 for the staff ☆☆☆☆☆ 
Pleasant staff and nothing was a problem , food for great , nothing was a problem and would definitely return ☆☆

Great hotel 

First the good points - good location, bedding clean, breakfast good. 

Now the bad points, we were told we had been allocated Room 10 away from the noise of the wedding party being held, however entering the room the floor was vibrating due to the extraction system in the kitchen below.  There was a constant loud humming noise due to the metal extraction chimney being sited outside the window. The room smelt of cooking fat and the small bathroom even more so. There was an extractor fan in the bathroom but this was broken so the cooking smell came through this.   The kitchen turned the fan off when service finished but the smell just stayed. There was a plug in air freshener beside the bed so I got intermittent perfume come chip fat smell.   This was in addition to the wall mounted air freshener. We asked if another room was available, the staff member (young lady who was helpful - not sure about the gentleman - possibly the Manager/owner who pulled her away whilst we were talking!) she was apologetic but all rooms were booked. We even looked to find another hotel but it was late evening. The sink in the bathroom didn’t drain & light over mirror didn’t work. Realise it’s not top dollar to stay here but expect a bit better than a smelly room. Looking at other reviews, this room should be taken out of service - it will lose more business than make the hotel money.  We often travel north and need a good hotel and would have booked again if it had been a pleasant stay but afraid we will look elsewhere.

Avoid Room 10

We stopped over here in a stable area and it was very good. so when we were invited to a wedding here we were looking forward to it. we booked a room over a year and asked for a stable area again and was told yes it was booked. when we arrived we were given keys early but not the stable area we were bumped to a room above the kitchen with a loud hum from the extractor fan and the smell of food. we complain but were told no other rooms were not available due to the wedding and the kitchen shut down at 9 pm so will be ok??? The room was a 6 at most. the wedding was good but thought the rooms were too small. The food wasn't as good as last time.  We woke up when the kitchen started as we need the window open as no aircon. We went down for breakfast which wasn't bad but the menu was a lot smaller. 
we wont be coming back again. 

Bumped from room we asked for 

We have just got married here and it was absolutely amazing. From the planning with Liz to the actual day with Chris and the other staff, they made out day unforgettable!! Could not have been more helpful and made our day stress free! All our family and friends had the best day and the food was fantastic too. If you are planning a wedding I would highly recommend here. Just wish I could do our day all over again. Thank you soooo much Chris, Liz and all your team, you were all fab!!! 

Wedding.....amazing day!!! 

I spent 4 nights in this hotel on a holiday to the North East when I particularly wanted to visit Newcastle. It was ideally placed 5 mins off the A1 and the park of the Angel of the North just a short walk away. Even better, it was on a direct bus route into Gateshead and Newcastle with a quick and frequent daytime service.
I booked directly and benefitted from a breakfast inclusive price. I also took three evening meals at the hotel.
It is a motel style arrangement with rooms separate from the main building, which is a restored farmhouse. There is a flowery seating area just outside the rooms and a charming, well maintained flowery courtyard in the middle of the hotel where you can have breakfast and dinner, weather permitting.
The cooked breakfast was excellent being freshly prepared and offering a wide choice. Dinners were also good and excellent value if you toook advantage of the daily specials. The dishes were straightforward but well cooked and portions were generous, you won't go to bed hungry here! Staff were friendly and attentive and very helpful giving advice on what to see, where to get buses and so on.
The room was simple but fine, plenty of hot water and clean and tidy. Mine was a little dark but as I was out most of the time that didn't matter. The bed was comfortable, refreshments good and replaced each day, and heating was easy to adjust.
The one downside was the piped music everywhere. This is a personal gripe of mine and luckily I was able to mitigate this by eating in the courtyard most days. I think hotels and restaurants should really determine whether this is something customers loathe or like before pumping it round their establishments as this alone would make me hesitate about coming here again.Which is a pity, as my stay was so enjoyable otherwise and I would have no hesitation in warmly recommending the Angel View Inn to anyone, with this one caveat in mind.

A lovely place to stay

Haven’t been here for quiet sometime, but I was not disappointed.. we came for the Sunday carvery. The guy behind the carvery doing the meats was lovely friendly chatty, talking to every customer. Very reasonably priced. All staff were amazing nothing was too much trouble to them.

Set your expectations at very basic and you may not be disappointed. We didn’t get the room we booked but were offered an alternative when this was pointed out. 

The rooms are tired and don’t look too closely if you are sensitive about cleanliness. The ceiling lampshade had several flies in and if you moved any furniture dust was very evident. The beds are standard double not kingsize as advised, with a mattress which was very soft and bouncy. 

We ate in the restaurant but it was cold and frequented by men still in their outdoor workwear soiled from their days activities. The food quality was very poor and probably the worst meal we have ever had. 

The staff are friendly and helpful which is about the only positive thing we could say.

Very Disappointing

My wife stayed in the hotel for one night while enjoying our wedding anniversary.  Our room smelt of cigarette smoke. There was noise all night from an adjoining room.  The staff were disinterested in looking after guests and the cooked breakfast was luke warm and had obviously been prepared some time in advance. It was really poor overall and I will never return.

Look elsewhere

Stayed at the Angel Hotel 28 July 2022 its the first time at the hotel / restaurant and what a fantastic place to stay ,the staff are absolutely fantastic and are always happy to help at any time .the rooms are furnished to a great standard with a great soft double bed and crisp white linen. The bathroom is large and has plenty of white towels and a shower over the bath and the hotel is very quiet even though it is on a busy road with great views of the Angel of the North. we will definitely return. 

Angel hotel / restaurant fantastic place to stay 

Highly recommend this hotel and restaurant, price excellent room was very comfortable and spacious staff really friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding from breakfast to a 3 course evening meal definitely stay here again.
