YHA Hawes - Hostel

Drove over from Keld, arriving at 430pm, bit annoying that the hostel is shut until 5pm, but not a huge issue, went off to the pub for a pint.  Upon returning Steve had reception open for me to check in and order some food., up to the room, changed, and Steve had my place setting for cheese burger and AMAZING chips, double fried? triple? who knows, but just what was needed.  Plenty of free tea, coffee milk etc in the kitchen, only slight issue, no mugs, only cups, which are never big enough for a decent cup of tea.
Room 8 was big enough for me, bunks to sleep in, just about long enough, I'm about 190cm tall, and my feet were just off the edge.  One issue in the room was the central heating (I think?) shrinking and expanding the pipes during the night, it was quite loud at 1am and seemed to come and go during the night.
Showers were great, plenty of hot water, fantastic drying room for boots, clothing etc.
Would certainly stay again.

A spotlessly clean and well run Youth Hostel. Breakfast is excellent.

I'm not sure whether the place has been renovated but it's very well presented, maintained and cleaned.

The drying room is very good and my wet cycle gear was ready for the next day.

Great hostel - friendly, clean and well managed 

We loved YHA Hawes and had a fabulous welcome (especially from Judith the hostel dog). It’s a great location, perfect if you are doing the Herriot way as we were. The staff couldn’t be more helpful with one of the team even sharing their hot chocolate with me when I had run out! Free tea and coffee was supplied and the rooms were spacious and good value. It seemed as though the hostel had been recently renovated, the bathrooms and rooms were modern and also immaculately clean. We will definitely revisit.

Great value, lovely hosts and an amazing location

A very well appointed friendly place to stay. A great welcome and a haven we found in a January deluge. Steve, the manager was a very hospitable gentleman, helpful and cheerful. The booking in procedure was easy and the room was comfortable. The food was excellent. I would definitely return

Where else can you stay and feel as tough you are at home, with a whole cupboard of board games, a full set of National Geographic and cycling magazines, the finest selection of biographies ever seen outside a lending library?
Not to mention the meticulously cleaned facilities, excellent kitchen, wonderful host and incredible location.
Stay here. But let me book first!

Blooming brilliant!

Stayed at Hawes in late December; we will definitely be back! The hostel was purpose built in the 70s but has obviously recently been refurbished to a high standard and is maintained spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out and couldn’t be faulted. We self-catered in the well equipped kitchen so can’t comment on either the breakfast or evening meals. There are plenty of long and short walks and rides from the hostel and several pubs in the village where tourists are welcome alongside the local regulars. Highly recommended as a great base from which to explore the Dales.

Great hostel, Great location, Great team!

Abysmal stay, cold radiator was 1st problem. That couldn’t be rectified. Substitute fan heater provided but that was too noisy cutting in & out so we left it off during the night. We needn’t have worried because we had an infuriating clicking all night from the main pipe expanding and contracting. Then there was the window that didn’t close & the solution off sellotape didn’t do much against the gale force winds blowing against it. This was clearly known about but just bodged. Then there was the shower room, nicely refurbished but the problem is the sensor is at the entrance & when you’re in the shower it can’t sense you, so my 10 year old had a panic session in the shower. What idiot thought that was a good idea🤦🏻‍♂️. Oh I forgot some selfish skumbag took up 2 parking spaces as well, thus I had to park along the road. Finally the breakfast, way overpriced at £10.50, continental was only £1 cheaper, so that’s £9 for a continental breakfast! Way overpriced! Then you realise there’s not a child option, so a family of 4 pay £42 for breakfast. Room on top. Not an acceptable price!

Great location for the town attractions, pubs and shops. excellent self catering facilities and communal space.
Immaculately clean. Lovely friendly staff. Would happily use again when we are next in the area.
