It's a youth hostel so expectations weren't high. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of our private double bunk room with ensuite. The room was clean although there was mildew in the bathroom. We had to go up outside steps and then back down inside steps to get to our room. The door alarm kept going off. It would get 4 stars except for the paper thin walls. The people above us walked loudly until midnight and our neighbors had a very frisky, romantic evening. Glad they enjoyed themselves, but I would have preferred not to feel like I was in the same room.

Paper thin walls

I stayed only 1 evening during a tour at Skye. The best part of the hostel is its location and scenic setting. You get to see an amazing view from the lounge. The rooms are  okay, clean. The bathroom is clean and has hot water. The upper bed I got did not have a charging point so I had to stay down at times to charge my phone - a bit inconvenient but not too much. Free tea / coffee is available. I booked a breakfast which was reasonable. Overall recommended if you are on budget and staying for 1/2 days

Good stay in a beautiful location

I had booked here for one night on a Sunday after being on Skye for a week. This was the second to last location on Skye after a wonderful trip. I had already stayed at the Portree Independent Hostel during Skye Live. I had booked on a day tour so setting off early from the square. I was allowed to drop my rucksack off, and it was stored in a locked room, so that was good. Unfortunately I returned in the evening a few hours after check in, so missed getting a lower bunk in a female four persons room. A convenient shower and toilet though in the room. I wanted a quiet relaxing evening but the common room was so noisy with groups of travellers all enjoying themselves. I do understand, this is Portree!! I was too old for the young foreign travellers, and too young for the massive group of male walkers, so nobody spoke to me!! Difficult night as not experienced top bunks before and had to go to toilet during the night. Hurt my achilles heal getting down the narrow small ladder unfortunately, having had a bad ankle fracture. In hindsight if stay again will make sure get there dead on check in time!! Kitchen and communal showers all good, pleasant common room, very modern. Beautiful views

Very busy and noisy hotel, Broadford more relaxing!! 

First time sleeping in a youth hostel and it was better than expected. The pillows were really good probably some of the best I have slept on. Bunk beds not for me or my teenage daughter.  Room was clean staff friendly. We never used the kitchen. Reception wasn’t very well sign posted from the car park site but that was fine we found our way. Car park was just across the road. Walls thin but we weren’t really disturbed.

Fine for the night

We  stayed here overnight to break up the journey. We arrived late from Harris. 
My main regret  was not telling them I had  a disability as on arrival, the room was outside and up many steps which proved very difficult. 
 The staff had been pleasant on the phone. The room was  perfectly OK and clean, except that  the bathroom  radiator was stuck on high so it was very hot.
The worst thing was being woken up by a group of young men, in the  room next door, at gone 12, slamming the doors  and laughing /chatting loudly. The walls are so thin you can hear  everything. They woke the whole family. Went out again after arriving, then woke us up on return doing the same so I had to ask them to keep it  down. No sleep had, with a ten hour drive ahead  of us. Portree hostel stop letting groups of lads share, you know how it will be for others when they've  been drinking!

Sleepless night

The location is central and free parking in front. The view of the common room is magnificent. Overheated 4-bedroom with small private bathroom. Small dej off the price for the service (7£/p). It is better to buy at the supermarket in the corner what to eat and cook in the common kitchen.

Beautiful view for simple and correct benefits,

The common areas of the hostel are very nice, very pleasant. The atmosphere is family friendly. The reception is perfect and the check-in/out is very simple. The rooms are small and quite poorly insulated from noise. Provide for quiet balls. The storage rooms are not equipped with a security system so think about taking a lock. Despite all the rooms are pleasant. Do not expect to take an incredible shower given the little pressure. The reception is at 10pm. Prices are high but what is normal on the Isle of Skye. Perfect location (in the hypercentre) with a great view of the coast.

Expensive but pleasant

There are many cheap but dignified hostels. The youth hostel is cheap, but it can be improved. The bedroom is old, the carpet on the ground is very dirty, the bathroom is simple and the shower did not work well (very weak, without hot water). The reception was cold and not very courteous.

I didn't like it.

Expensive for a twin ensuite that had seen better days.Apparently both twin rooms are at back of hostel on the main road through Portree We had to keep with window shut which made it really warm.Slept badly Kettle and tea and coffee in room No parking but there is a carpark at front which is free at night.No access to kitchen due to Covid Staff friendly.Wouldn't stay again

OK for one night

Paper thin walls, expensive room cost, no included breakfast, very limited facilities - far better offerings in Portree for the same cost, including a breakfast and a room with full complement of bedroom furniture! Power cut on the final night stay caused for alarm panels to sound for hours, staff "didn't hear them" apparently...
