£30 per head afternoon tea with friends. Four of us on a dinky little rickety table positioned in a doorway where one of my friends was constantly being brushed past.  Struggled to pour out the tea and in constant fear of knocking crockery off the table. Three of us had comfortable seats the fourth a hard upright chair - even though paying full wack. Upon paying the bill discovered  there was a 20% TWENTY PERCENT SURCHARGE added!!!

Spectacularly situated right next to Malmesbury Abbey this old hotel which dates back centuries has been modernised sympathetic to its history with up to date interior design.  We stayed two nights and ate at the restaurant on both nights - food on each occasion was delicious with a good choice of wines.
Service was very friendly and efficient from everyone - well worth a visit.

Beautiful historic Malmesbury - envelop yourself in ancient English history!

A lovely well-run hotel.  The staff were really friendly and efficient, and the food was very good in the restaurant.  The place has a nice buzzy atmosphere and the bar was busy.  Funky decor. 
PS: don't be late down for breakfast - we saw one poor man turned away at 10.36am (6 minutes after the deadline!).  To be fair, the hotel was getting ready for a busy Sunday lunch and needed to set up.

Charming hotel in a nice location. Wonderful staff make the place. Delicious breakfast. Suite was large and my wife loved it. carpark is a little small and so awkward to get in and out  of.
For a stop over enoute to Exeter or London this place is ideal

Wonderful staff

We stayed here for Tuesday and Wednesday nights last week, and were pleased to return to the Old Bell. It must be our 3 rd stay! 
We love the hotel building and its close proximity to the Abbey. We enjoyed hearing bell ringing ing practice on Tuesday evening whilst having dinner.
The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed our conversations with them.
The food was delicious, but I didn’t do justice to the size of the portion of delicious fish and chips. 
Breakfasts were good, but I missed the toast rack. However, the quality of the ingredients and the excellent eggs and sausage were yummy.
Although the hotel was very busy on Wednesday evening, the staff were more than attentive, and were very kind to me as I am a bit disabled and need to use a stick.
Whilst in Malmesbury we enjoyed walking around the town which I found rather easier than in other places due to the numerous benches and the stone structures around the streets! The local shops are very interesting and we found some lovely gifts.
The museum is also there, but since it was a rare sunny day, we sat outside as much as possible!
We hope to return again soon for a short break.

High quality, friendly hotel in a charming town.

Fantastic hotel, clean, with very courteous staff, specially PAF! 
Paf was an absolute gentleman and knows how to delight customers.
If you are in the area, this is the place to stay at for sure 👍👍❤️

Amazing! 

All the staff were excellent, Elaine, Paf, Saoirse, Amy, Sydney to name a few. They were all very accommodating and flexible. Special shoutout to Saoirse for organising alternative after I was stuck in the local area!

Really good experience, really nice staff

We have visited The Bell constantly this year, at least a few times a month. always love the menu the restaurant is beautiful and the staff friendly. We bring our small dog and their are usually other people with well behaved dogs as well. 

Unfortunately we were told on our last visit, that dogs are now banned from the restaurant. They can still currently go in the bar area but it is not a suitable place to eat a high end meal, as the tables and chairs are far too informal and low. 

We find it very disappointing and hope there is a rethink or at least allow dogs in at lunchtime. Their is also no mention of the ban on the website.

Again, we love the food, ambience, the staff are always friendly and kind. The dogs are certainly cleaner than the Lycra covered cyclists that sit their behinds on the chairs. ;)

No longer dog friendly, unfortunately.

Our 2nd visit and 2nd Birthday visit. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, fantastic service. The girl recognised my name and told me the Chef had changed since our previous visit. This made no difference as the Food was as good as the previous visit. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. We will certainly be returning.

Son's Birthday

My friend and I share food wherever we go, but broke with tradition for our starter at dinner. We both wanted the scallops as the dish sounded so good. We were not disappointed and both rated it as the best food we had tasted in recent memory. 
 
The main courses and desserts were good too, but I’m afraid could not match the starter! 
Service throughout was great - really friendly and not stuffy, but very attentive. 
 
I rarely give 5star awards but this trip really deserved it.
