AWFUL JUST AWFUL, DID I SAY AWFUL - we popped in for lunch and a drink and the staff, service and attitude was beyond awful.
Stood at bar with 6 other guests waiting to be served. Young girl who was taking food orders was too young to serve alcohol and no other staff in sight. 
A woman came out of what I presume was the main kitchen and saw that 6 people waiting at the bar and promptly turned around and disappeared for the next 5 minutes.
She finally came to the bar and I ordered a diet coke at which point she went to a fridge and took out a can of diet coke and banged it down on the bar in front of me !!!
Never ever going here again, they need to sort out the management !!

AWFUL AND ONE TO DEFINITELY AVOID

Booking made in advance for Sunday lunch. Warmly welcomed and prompt service initially for drinks and food order. Starters were good. We both opted for the roast beef as part of their Sunday Roast deal (either beef or gammon). Well presented with added extras like cabbage and haggis. However, the beef was overcooked, chewy and some parts tough. At no point did anyone ask if we were happy with our meal and any appearance from staff was few and far between. 
At this point (about 1.30pm) we couldn't believe that people were being told the beef was finished and we saw several people leave. 
We waited about 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared and eventually had to ask if we could order pudding. Only then were our plates removed. Again a long wait and we were on the verge of leaving when our pudding arrived. Mass produced cheesecake but okay.
Sadly we won't return unless it's only for a drink. Staff need more training in customer service and attentiveness.

Sunday lunch very disappointing 

I spent two nights at the Black Bull Inn in Moffat and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The room was tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean, providing a perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional charm.

The bed deserves special mention for its comfort, offering a perfect balance of softness and support that made for a restful night’s sleep.

The hotel’s location is ideal, close to local attractions and easy to access. What truly set this experience apart, however, was the exceptional service. 

In conclusion, the Black Bull Inn offers an excellent mix of comfort, service, and location. I would unquestionably stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Nice small hotel

The image portrayed by the website is rather nice, just what we were looking for. However, we were very unceremoniously deposited outside the hotel on the street pavement in what must have been an old shop/similar - no lobby, little privacy and subject to passers by and traffic. We asked for another room and was told there were none available....hmm. The door lock did not work very well - there was only one screw holding the lock to the door, that was loose but I fixed with my multitool. We had someone walk straight in on us off the street thinking it was reception, and another couple who did same but knocked first, thankfully...........the manager said there was 'No.16' on the outside - but that was sadly a fib, nothing of the sort. The windows are obscured (for obvious reasons) - we had booked a 'Classic King with views to the church' back in January. The bathroom is very basic - there's no lid to the WC and with no real place/shelving to keep your kit other than the shelf behind it, dropping something into the WC is a distinct possibility as we found. The shower drain to the wetroom floor is in the middle of the floor so the water pools on the floor for when you're at the WHB; the cheap laminate wall panels are unfinished. No explanation/introduction given for the room when we were cast out in there by the manager; no wi-fi notification at all. Can hear whatever is going on in the room above. The attitude and lack of concern by the two managers beggared belief. Have never written a negative review before, not my thing, but, Black Bull - this is sadly deserved.

Bitterly disappointing.

Disappointing.  We booked a Classic King room which the Black Bull Inn website clearly states will be on the first floor and 'offers a picturesque view of the church'.  We were instead put in the building next door to the Inn with a door that opened directly onto the street and had figured glass in the window which meant we had no view but could see people passing right by our window.  It felt like being in a goldfish bowl.  The name of the Inn is painted on the outside wall above the room's door, leading arriving guests to think that Reception was in our room.  One man walked straight off the street into our room as we were relaxing on the bed.  Another woman banged on the door until we opened it, again convinced that our room was Reception.  When I suggested that a sign be put on our door to point guests to where Reception actually was, I was told that there was a room number on the outside of our door (there wasn't) so people should not mistake it for Reception (they did).  When I explained about the man barging into our room, I was reminded that I'd been told to close the door properly.  How about making the lock work properly?  Also, the windowless bathroom has the drain in the middle of the room instead of under the shower resulting in the floor remaining wet after use. The room cost £168 B&B and should, in my opinion, have been priced as a standard double, two grades below what we paid.  It should also have been where the website said it was, on the first floor, with a picturesque view of the church.  

One to Avoid - Black Bull Inn, Moffat

We stopped for just one night in Moffat on our west coast tour and popped into the Black Bull for a drink and some food.
Very warm welcome, and a lovely dog friendly pub. Staff were great and the food was excellent. Well worth the visit.

We go down to Moffat quite a lot in our caravan. Always go in here for a beer, past 2 nights we sat outside under cover in their great beer garden - fantastic lights….
We chatted to the owner who was so welcoming and friendly and the young staff were  doing their best to make you feel welcome.
Cant recommend it enough and don’t believe the rubbish reviews that various extremely critical people leave - get a life…..

Great wee pub

Third time we have been. Stayed twice now and both times lovely. Rooms are spotless and well maintained, well furnished, room cleaned daily. Breakfast and evening meal lovely. Made to your request and the apple pie is amazing. Ambience in bar is quiet and relaxing, dogs very welcome. No need to worry about bringing your dog they are like VIPs. Have to say all staff very welcoming and do their best to please you. Bar not open late, normally 10pm closing, but that is to keep the quiet, relaxed atmosphere, well done.

Great weekend, brilliant staff

Stopped off for one night on our way to a family gathering. We had a spotless, spacious room with comfy bed and everything you could need including bathrobes. We have stayed here before and were impressed by the way the new owner has refurbished the accommodation. Really friendly staff and overall we had an excellent stay.

Perfect one night stop-off

We were pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of vegan and vegetarian food as well as regular food. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful young lady who was running the bar on her own. We had two dogs with us so decided to sit outside (although it is dog friendly). Despite being on her own she told me she would come outside and take our orders, we wouldn’t need to do anything. True to her word she came out to us and really went out of her way to make sure we were looked after. We ordered spicy vegan burgers and fries which were absolutely delicious. The customer service was excellent and delivery of our food was quick. The food was well presented and reasonably priced. I would recommend the Black Bull especially if you are looking for a comprehensive vegan/vegetarian menu.
