My wife and I stayed at Fa’side for a long weekend and throughly enjoyed our stay.

The accommodation is in a tower which was the oldest part of the castle and is on two levels - we had exclusive use of the great hall and a large bedroom at the top of the tower.  The great hall Is a good place to just relax and enjoy the ambiance. The bedroom is a large room with a generous bed and an en-suite bath. There is also a breakfast area in the bedroom. It includes a toaster and microwave. The breakfast area and fridge is generously stocked, so you can enjoy a continental breakfast of your choosing.

The hosts - Ian and Sue - are extremely courteous and take care to ensure that you feel welcome.

We both enjoyed our stay at Fa’side immensely - it’s the first time we’ve lived in a ‘real’ castle - and we would love to go back.

Lothian’s most atmospheric B&B

My wife and I stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. We had high hopes from the pictures and were not disappointed. The castle is beautiful, you really do feel regal! We were made to feel so welcome and had the run of the wing of the castle. The owners are really friendly and always there for a chat or anything you need. The whole experience made our special anniversary all the more special.

Absolutely Wonderful

A huge thanks to Susan and Ian who went out of their way to make us feel very welcome in their lovely home.  The Tower room was very cosy and the extensive in-room breakfast provided us with lots of choice.  Ian is extremely knowledgeable on the history of the Castle and takes time out to share.  I could not recommend the Fa'side highly enough

Excellent B&B

We actually were here before the time frame selected, it would only go so far back. Love the place!! Best money spent and my husband and I still count this as our favorite stay during our 12 day excursion across Scotland. I really cannot say enough good things about the owners either. If given the opportunity I will stay here again. My husband loved basically having a tower to ourselves and really enjoyed going up to the battlements and looking on Edinburgh. Beautiful countryside!

We loved everything about this place

We've had four wonderful castle stays but Fa'side is the one we think of as our magnificent Scottish home away from home. This was our second visit but hope not the last. Sue, Ian and family couldn't be more welcoming, helpful, informative or fun. 

You'll enter the stone wall enclosed garden reminiscent of that described in The Secret Garden, one of my favorite children's books. Scottish roses are the prettiest I've seen anywhere while enormous poppies and columbine also greet you. Foxglove grows like a weed! (Mine don't last more than one season.) I expect it's the long, cool and wet growing season that provide optimal conditions. Outside the wall is an expansive lawn with views of the forth and city.

 Now for the star attraction. On entering the castle you'll find the plexiglass covered dungeo because no self respecting castle can do without. On the next level up the stone spiral staircase you'll find your private great hall with numerous cool features including a walk in sized fireplace, the laird's stone "throne room," and a large comfy sofa. Look up at the painted ceiling to find portraits of the owners' family and don't forget to browse the book relating the castle's history. 

Next up are your sleeping and dining quarters. On one side of this generous sized room is a comfy king size bed. On the other is a well stocked kitchen and medieval inspired dining set. 

Up the final stairs you'll step onto the roof for magnificent views of the Firth of Forth, Edinburgh city center and more. 

An opportunity to stay here is not to be passed up!

The breakfast exceeded my expectations... Fresh croissants, muffins, cereals, coffee....

Amazing!

Faside is a privately owned small castle about 15 minutes by train from the center of Edinburgh.
The owner offers only one apartment which known as 'The Tower' and is on 2 levels.  
Level 1, The Great Hall (which according to the owners is the best room in the castle), huge and very comfortably furnished with a huge fireplace (logs supplied!) and a magnificent painted ceiling recording the history of the castle.
Level 2, The ensuite bedroom, again comfortably furnished with a 6 foot wide bed!
A wide ranging buffet breakfast selection is supplied in the bedroom.
Both rooms are accessed by long, winding, steep staircases within in the tower which are not recommended for elderly or physically unfit people. 
The bedroom has a deep hip bath rather than shower cubicle which also might not suit elderly people. 
Wonderful views from the battlements and the perfect place for an unforgettable or romantic weekend.

If for any reason you're still wondering whether to come here, pack your bags! It's just an incredible place with amazing hosts. It's an absolute delight. We were there only one night, but even that left an indelible impression. You should feel for yourself what it's like to be kings and queens. Very warm, cozy, beautiful, comfortable. A great bathroom, a powerful wifi, a fancy living room with TVs and discs. Edinburgh is very close - 30 minutes to the train station in the centre of everything by car. We were the first Russians, but hopefully not the last. Go - give us a big welcome, please.

This is just a fairy tale!!!

For lovers of the original housing, a revelation is certain: the house, which has its roots in local history and has been rebuilt from ruins in recent decades with immense financial effort by the changing owners, is a little more special, with its swinging stairs, the large knight's hall, authentically reimagined ceiling paintings with the figures of the owners in the hall and the view from the roof over the nearby motorway to the coast and across Edinburgh. This is reflected in the price (which, unique to our round trip, was to be paid in full advance). For travelers looking for an orogenous and decorated B&B here, however, the narrow aisle with almost three stages of the back door and the view from the roof over the nearby motorway to the coast and across Edinburgh is already a little more special.

Ideal for lovers of the original

It is a delightful and very romantic place. We stayed two nights at the Tower, it is a wing of the castle completely renovated but which has retained the charm of a time. The bedroom is very spacious, there is a dining table to be able to make breakfast independently at any time in the morning. Everything is handled to the smallest detail and a very rich breakfast is available.
